Pretty sure Danny Dwyer's one has just grown too since the beginning, no?

Wow $23,000 per month?! I wonder what his expenditures are. Now I can see why Drew hopped on this

On one hand it seems kinda crazy how much he gets for what he does. But on the other, he is providing something people want and they are willing to pay him monthly for it so you can't really say he doesn't deserve it.

I'm glad it has worked out great for both Danny and Drew and hope they will be able to do it for as long as they want to.

You could always tell he liked to travel.

Best of luck Drewbert. Interested to see what the first output will be like.

Between taxes and Patreon's cut, I think they get about 60% of what it says on the page.

But it's business income, so he's just taxed on his cut after his business expenses. Given this is going to be a very expense-heavy enterprise, he's going to be able to utilize a much larger percent than 60%, most likely.

Also, he can save a lot on things like rent by declaring his home office as a business expense (different procedure if you are Self-Employed, don't need to itemize deductions to take it), so saying 60 percent of what's on the page is very misleading.

(This might be different if he incorporated, but I really doubt that would be the case.)

It's like Anthony Bourdain but for games. Along with Danny doing 30 for 30 for games. Makes a lot of sense.

Really cool idea. Always enjoyed Drew's travelogues (ditto for SuperBestFriends and BunnyHop's Japan videos) and love the idea of him venturing into places most never think when it comes to games. There are bound to be endless interesting titbits from around the globe that will be fun to watch him explore, plus the various board games and their variants.

I wonder if this could be useful for developers (especially smaller ones) in bringing more cultures/histories/events or even just the current gaming zeitgeist in certain areas to their attention.

Also, where is THE RAID tier?

Cloth Taco

Dan follows WWE around, attending each recording and eating at the nearest Taco Bell afterwards. No reviews or commentary, we just see how long a man can survive on Taco Bell and Roman's push before he goes insane.
Granted, this might already be happening.

Go Drew Scanlon go! Best of luck to Drew and this new venture. I don't feel I can accurately conceive how this might turn out, but knowing Drew is at the center of it makes it more exciting than doubtful.

This is super exciting. Gonna give a small amount now and then bump it up when I can afford it, but this is really cool and I trust him to make some rad stuff.

Not going to sub (yet), but I am happy for Drew. I still feel sad that he left GB, but I (like many) felt it was to do more of this stuff.

Drew said he loved working at GB, and I don't doubt that at all, but I can't help but feel that GB has been spinning its wheels a bit in recent years, especially in this area. There are interesting things to see that aren't in LA, Seattle or Boston. Was Drew and Patricks Iceland trip the last major non-US travel they did? I honestly don't know how well that did for them in terms of value for money, but I'm sure Drew had a big desire to do more of that kind of international coverage. But I'm just speculating.

Good luck, Drew.

Best of luck to Drew, loved him on GB. But I really need to see the kind of content he puts out before I pay him any money.

Also, great to see Danny getting over 20k on Patreon!

Wonder how much Danny + Drew are making compared to the entity of Giant Bomb?

Probably a small fraction. Patreon is great for single/small creators, and the numbers look impressive, but it doesn't really scale. One senior hire (Jeff, Vinny, Brad and Dan are all senior) would easily be $100k/year, including the cost of hire.

You're making six figures in games journalism? Boy did I fuck up my career planing bad lol.

Yeah, it makes sense for him to do more videos on some of his best video content from Giant Bomb. I won't be backing (would have for a one-off fee), but I'll be watching from afar. Sounds really interesting.

Senior position, inclusive of tax and cost of hire (which can easily be an additional 30-50% of their salary taking into account all expenses like office space etc), yes, easily.

Hiring full time staff and running a business is very expensive.

I can't provide any money because I'm broke AF, but just like Danny, Drew has my full support. I already suscribed and I'll make sure to watch every single second of footage Drew produces.

Sounds amazing and I've subbed to his channel.

I am struggling to keep up with games podcasts though so keeping track of people going on their own now as well as the usual couple of websites worth of content is nearly impossible, I am sure there are loads of games personalities in the last few years that have moved on from sites I followed and I have just lost track of completely.

How do you guys manage to keep up with everything? Even at being subbed to 50 youtubes I have too much to keep tabs on.

Awesome. With this and NoClip there will be a lot of great gaming documentaries to come. Am I missing any good documentary creators or channels besides those two? I've seen some of Danny's earlier stuff like The Point, anything else I should be watching?

I do wonder if he's filmed part of this already, though, didn't he got to Paris like 6 months ago or so, sure he talked about it on the Bombcast before Xmas

Haven't received discord server invite yet, I connected my discord account to patreon and still nothing. I assume higher tiers didn't get an invite as the pledges don't have "includes discord reward" below the pledge
