Shinobi already confirmed better graphics and massive playable environments including towns. And Destiny is already a rather good looking game. They aren't going to do all that and include 60fps. Maybe at best PVP will be 60

True that, the art style is fantastic and the skyboxes are some of the sexiest still for a cross gen title.

Now with a new engine basically and full modern hardware

Lord help us

So make it look worse and jack the resolution down.

Do whatever you have to do. Just hit the now-standard refresh rate for shooters.

Destiny sold enormous amounts at 30fps. The sequel will be no different. Adding 60fps would likely have next to zero impact on sales. Adding bigger better looking environments with towns however will

Is there a ton of 60 fps open-world multiplayer FPS games on console that I've been missing out on? Because you can't exactly compare it to Titanfall or CoD or Battlefield.

And no, "make it ugly" is not an appropriate compromise when Destiny 1 was a damn good looking game.

Do you really consider destiny an open world game?

This generation started not in 2013 but with Destiny.

I will be there day one even though I never deep-dived into the original (though I kept buying every DLC just to have a look around).
Scarab Lords magnum opus, no pressure.

Wait, Destiny is a "damn good looking" game now? I think Destiny has its moments where things look nice, and I like the art design behind a lot of the environments. But the assets within the game are largely average. Some parts of the game definitely look like its being held back as a game released between generations.

From what we've heard of Destiny 2, it's more open than the first one is. And it's closer to an open world game than the purely corridor nature of Titanfall/CoD.

The environmental art is stellar, especially considering when it was released, and even more since it was cross platform. So yes, it's a really good looking game even if it isn't pushing insane polygon budgets or shaders.

The "make it ugly" argument would only be to appease those who say that there can't be a frame rate difference between the standard consoles and Pro/Scorpio.

Bungie could absolutely design a game that looks like Destiny 1 (or better) that runs in big, open environments at 1080p60 on the PS4 Pro and Scorpio. I just want for that to be the target. Do whatever you have to do for the base consoles—lower resolution, cap at 30, whatever. Don't care. Just give me the option to play this shit at a full 60fps. The power is there.

It was always that. From day 1 of development.

Really?

Because I remember reading that Joe Staten left in huff after they scrapped and pilfered everything he'd written for the game.

And how about that demo where a guardian randomly joins in via dropship mid game and they go on a mission starting from the outside walls of the cosmodrome.

They even insinuated you could go exploring beyond those walls.

And how about all the missing scenes and dialogue from the trailers?

I don't think Destiny was much of anything resembling the start of its development.

Edit:

Basically, I never read the fine print where it said this would all be added way post launch via paid expansions.

Yeah, this is the other part I don't follow. Destiny's "open world" is by far its weakest part. Maybe Destiny 2 will change this. But the patrol areas of Destiny presently are far too small, barren, and static to get this "open world" bump.

The option will be there on PC. It's not going to be 60 FPS on Pro and less than that on base PS4.

Bungie has to be already licking their chops.

One picture and a pre order leak means 25+ pages on neogaf? The thirst is real regardless of what the haters say.

Destiny 2 will probably be the second largest game this year in terms of mindshare behind RDR2, assuming RDR2 doesn't get delayed.

This is nice to hear. One of my problems with Destiny was that I didn't have much fun exploring their worlds/environments. Felt too scaled down compared to what I thought they wanted to deliver. Improving that alone would be a big plus for me. Waiting to see.

Waiting on an in depth 6 hour analysis video of the Image and pre-order doll. Btw anyone else suprised at chibi cayde-6 Destiny is so serious. The city is burning. Nice.

I'd bet Destiny outsells and out hypes RDR2. I fully expect D2 to blow minds considering how many people are on development vs the original.

Didn't we have 3 OTs just for the beta?
THE BETA!!!!!

I was a doubter until I played the beta. Then I ended up logging 300+ hours before finally putting it down.

Luke Smith was at the helm of The Taken King, which is widely considered to be a much better game than vanilla Destiny. So uh... what?

It's amazing how often the Destiny haters end up not knowing much about the game itself.

This Destiny hater logged well over a hundred hours of PvE and PvP.

TTK, added much needed content to a barren game, yes.

Doesn't change the fact that they botched the initial launch on an MMO by providing minimal story and actual meat to the gameplay foundations.

As an SP only player I feel like Bungie have completely disappeared off the face of the planet somewhere around Halo: Reach release date.

It just now hit me that I've been scrolling past Destiny 2 news this whole day as if the game doesn't exist. The incredibly detailed and exciting way of announcing the game probably didn't help either.

It's pretty sad how much potential was squandered with this game, and even sadder the think that Sony Santa Monica canceled a probably bigger, better take on the space frontier MMO because of Sony's pushing of this game.

Or simply SSM's game was going no where. How can u be so sure Stig's game has a better take when all we see is a bunch of concept arts.

And then they fixed it. So, what's your point?

Plenty of games had a rough launch. Look at FFXIV, Diablo 3, etc.

Those games were able to recover and looked on fondly.

The one thing any Bungie fan will know (if they're being honest with themselves) is that you need to divide the hype by about 100, and set your expectations accordingly. Time after time people expect the mountain, but Bungie gives them molehills. Expect no different with Destiny 2 and you'll mostly be pleased with the outcome, imo of course.

How are people here going to feel if the key pillars of Destiny's gameplay are intact? By that I mean:

Super with a charging bar
Melee with a cooldown
Grenade with a cooldown
Primary, Secondary, Heavy and the same armor options.
No extra abilities and no extra Ghost ineractions.
Classes are largely the same in options and abilities. Though they may be different, they don't change veer much different than how TTK added new subclasses.

I just feel like this isn't going to cut it for Destiny 2.

Your response doesn't make any sense in regards to what you quoted.

I was clearly responding to someone saying that Luke Smith being in charge of Destiny 2 makes it's a dumpster fire and the reason he'll stay away.

That poster doesn't know what he's talking about and I was replying to that. What are you replying to?

If you don't like destiny that's cool but get your condescending BS out of here. People play destiny because it has world class shooting mechanics and CoOP that's unique and best in class.

People tend to pay for content. Compare destiny content to COD map packs or other shooter content dollar for dollar.

It's okay to like what you like. I'm not calling you out or anyone else for that matter for what they choose to support with their wallet.

All I'm saying is I got burnt with their business model for what I personally want out of a game.

They didn't deliver on their promises.

So I've every reason to be skeptical and critical of their next offering.

Also, Destiny does not have world class shooting mechanics. It has a myriad of unfair bullshit RNG bullet calculations, so let's not even go there.

The gold standard for PVP shooter this gen is Titanfall 2. That's world class.

I'm so fucking in. The game might be lacking on content on the first year but now, it is full of it, tons of content.

Bring it on D2.

I've been playing Bungie games since halo CE. Even vanilla Destiny was amazing to me because of Vault of Glass/fatebringer/Ghorn.

If anything games like the Division made me realize just how good Destiny is/was.

Halo is still using the two gun and dedicated grenade/melee button it introduced in 2001.

Wait, you are telling him to get out because he didn't like Destiny and is stating how terrible he thought it was????

I've said what I wanted to say.

I'm out.

Best of luck to Bungie with the game and glhf to the players.

Peace. ✌

What is with this constant defense? Game X doing something isn't a justification that it is good or acceptable of Destiny 2 does it.

Why would you expect a sequel to a game to just rid itself of all the mechanics that fans loved and made it a hit?

It's a ridiculous expectation.

The pillars are bascically perfect. Give me more guns, more armor and more raids and I'm there. No reason to break something that works.
