Regarding Nintendo's E3 2017 announcement, I continue to monitor e3.nintendo.com. This year they took it down (well, the content of it anyway) in March (most recent event seems to have been on March 26) while in previous years they left it up indefinitely (no downtime before it had been updated for a new E3). It currently redirects to nintendo.com. This is the code:

Code:

A bit curious I think.

Maybe they will use another domain this year. It doesnt have to mean anything.

How likely is a Pokemon Stars releasing this year really?

Just curious.. sounds like it's too early. It would be really cool though and Nintendo would likely set the world on fire come this holiday if a tandem of Mario and Pokemon both have games released

There's a good chance. Pokémon is almost an annual franchise at this point.

It is a bit curious, because I don't recall them having that type of message for 2016, since it was mostly centered around Zelda. I'd guess that's just the stock message: "See what's coming up in XXXX and beyond" so it probably doesn't mean anything.

Switch has time traveling capabilities confirmed?

If it's not this year it's probably not Stars. A year after release for the third version seems reasonable, two years seems like we'd be into the next remake/main game territory.

Too early to announce or too early to come out this fall? I mean if it's the 3rd entry into this gen coming out a year later I don't see how that's too soon.

For which system tho?

Well, Eurogamer said it would be a Switch exclusive, and they've been fairly spot on with their Switch rumors so far. However, the early success of the Switch and the surprising legs of the 3DS might have caused Game Freak/Nintendo to change their plans a bit.

I honestly wouldn't be shocked to see it either way, exclusive to Switch or a Switch/3ds (or just new 3DS) cross release. But I don't see any way it doesn't come to Switch, given the HD assets that have been found.

Nintendo should be aiming for Switch software overkill this year, they should want it to be sold out through 2017 and into 2018, so holding it back due to the early success and stock issues doesn't make much sense, at least to me.

they should also prepare a big line up for 2018 as well, I know by summer 2018 Japanese 3rd parties probably will pour their games to the system but they should have big first party games to carry the system

Could be Switch and N3DS like FE Warriors, not a lot of people own N3DS so they might upgrade to Switch or the upcoming N2DS.

A bit curious I think.

If you cross your eyes and stare at the code you can see the E3 Bear.

You may have to be high for this to work.

I'm not terribly worried about that, given how many games this year have been done for a while (or were likely very quick to develop). We're going to hear about Retro's game, there should be a new Pokemon (not Stars), if Smash doesn't hit this year it should be 2018, very likely to be an Animal Crossing to coincide with the mobile app, new Fire Emblem game has already been announced... I think 2018 will be quite fine from a first party perspective.

Yeah that's definitely a strong possibility. I just don't see it missing the Switch either way.

Time to pack our hope up, I suppose...at least for this week

Thursday. Doesn't look like this is happening then...

The Direct was never going to happen this weeks guys. It's Golden week in Japan. They have the week off from work. Next week is the earliest for a Direct. There's a chance we still get the E3 plans tomorrow though.

I agree. I know some people on here think the Switch will keep selling out during the duration of this year, but if I'm Nintendo I don't take a chance at all. Go for the overkill! Bring Pokémon AND Smash this year. If people want a Switch for it they'll get it whenever it's available be it this year or next year. Nintendo can't screw around after the Wii U's big flop.

Unless they hop back and forth (R/S -> FRLG -> Emerald)

Just had a weird mirage of Neon Green/Pink Joy-Cons being announced alongside Splatoon 2.
Please let this become real, I'm kind of addicted to Joy-Cons for some weird reason, already pre-ordered the bananas not sure if I should keep 'em if they announce these, would like to collect all colours but they're so damn expensive.

I want two things: I want Zelda Gold Joy-Cons.

And I want the Pokemon Stars Joy-Cons.

Well a Zelda limited bundle would hit me hard... I'm also looking forward to MH Switch announcement, which sadly isn't happening any time soon...

The holidays are going to be fucking stacked but I think it would still be worth Nintendo's while to do a Zelda bundle.

Switch
Gold Joy-Cons
BOTW + DLC

Shit they could sell that in a limited run for $400 and it'd fly off shelves.

I hope we get that E3 announcement today so we can talk more about it. I think Nintendo is the last company to announce their plans.

Actually, Ubisoft hasn't announced their E3 conference date yet. I'm not sure how long they wait...

I see they announced it May 13 in 2015 and April 14 in 2016.

I wonder if they'll start bundling collectors edition games with unique joy-cons. They are bound to take better advantage of the swappable nature of those things, especially as the cost to manufacture decreases

What if the Nintendo Direct next week is the announcement of their E3 plans?

Would be neat.

Maybe. It would be something they've never done before. I would assume if it's a Direct there will be other announcements in it besides their E3 plans.

I think Pokémon Stars makes more sense business-wise as a Feb or March 2018 release. Fall 2017 is pretty well filled and 2018 is sparse.

If rumors are legit, they have:
- FE Warriors
- Mario Odyssey
- Xenoblade 2
- Zelda DLC 2
- Mario x Rabbids (rumor)
- Super Smash Bros Deluxe (rumor)
- Some VC games (likely)

They have plenty to release a good game every month, so they don't need to stick Pokémon in there too. Hold it to when there is more stock and show people there is a long term plan. My concern has been when happens after 2017 and that would help address that.

Somewhat unrelated but I'm hoping E3 also has Metroid 2018 tease and Metroid Prime Trilogy on VC. Would be a bombshell.

2018 is sparse because most of the announced Switch games are for this year. Nintendo usually holds game announcements close to their chest until they release. I imagine E3 will have them announce a few more 2018 releases with another late year Direct for early 2018 releases.

I know. They just have a bad rep after how many often there were long patches without big games on the Wii-U. I think it'd be smart for them to directly address that and give a few early teases to reassure people they learned and this time will be different. If they release most their big franchise games (Mario, Zelda, Splatoon, Kart, Pokémon) and they mostly take 3+ years to develop that gives me personal concern they'll blow their wad upfront to build hype and then run out of ammo in 2018 and 2019. Not saying they will, just saying the onus is on them to communicate why it won't be that way.

What's the shortest time between Nintendo announcing a Pokémon game and releasing it? Aren't they usually given a date at least 6 months in advance.

Consider the case of ORAS. Announced May 7th, released November 21th. Now that release dates are international, this is pretty much the typical schedule for non new generation games (XY and SM were announced a couple months earlier). If not for a November release, I very much doubt Stars exists, at least in the form it's rumoured to exist in.

Incidentally, I wonder if we'll get punished again for no reason in Europe.
