/\/\ D'aww :) Can't imagine a better argument for non-intrusive accessibility features.

On a less delightful note...bloody hell, be prepared once the online starts matching you up with 3000+ rank players! If you don't already hate bob 'ombs by that point, you certainly will after :'D

Wow I took GAFs advice and took some heavyweight and maxed acceleration. Went first place 8 times in a row lol. Nice balance Nintendo.

Call me crazy, but to me the graphics in Mario Kart 8 look better than Zelda Breath of the Wild. The colors are so vibrant and just seem to pop out of the screen, while Zelda uses a more muted color scheme. Also MK8 doesn't seem to suffer as much from lack of anti aliasing compared to BOTW.

MK8 definitely looks better. Its also a less ambituous game, so it makes sense.

Hmm. Online vs randoms seems a bit too easy (came first 8 out of 9 races, 2nd in the other, haha). Maybe I should play some gaffers and have some sense beaten back in to me, until the game gets back to the point to where I'm placed with people around my skill again..

Did you just start playing online? You won't get into challenging rooms until you build up your score

Yeah, I did, hence why I said I need to get back to the point of being matched with people my skill again. A hundred or so hours on the Wii U version made the races almost boring for the moment.

Wait until you get closer to 2000. I didn't get much challenge in online until i hit the upper 1700s, then it was like a switch flipped and now my average finish is 4th-8th place (with rare 1st-3rd finishes and rarer 9th-12th finishes).

Thank goodness for auto accelerate and auto steer. Daughter is on pro controller and I gave my son the joycons but he opted to eat a cereal bar instead.

Haha, that's great. Got a picture somewhere of my 3 year old son playing Mario Kart on the toilet. Before the Switch ad :) Long time ago. He's 15 now. And while he and most of his friends are into gaming on PS4 and Xbox One he's still playing MK8 on Switch.

Anyway, Good times :) Great as a parent to see your kids are having fun.

Is it bad I'm having a hard time justifying this game when I've played it so much on WiiU? I still haven't bought it yet.

I've already played it more than the Wii U version. Combination of it looking a little nicer, all the DLC, battle mode, portability, and double items makes it better IMO.

Good games. Great moment when I was racing for the finish line with Steve's (I think) piranha plant just barely missing my Toad butt three times.

Also hooray for throwing a red shell and it just disintegrating after two meters without being close to anything, wtf.

How do people feel the item balance is in this game compared to the WIi U one btw (I never played it)?

Whew, finished up the last 3 star in 150 cc. About to start mirror mode, which I heard is harder. Is the cpu better or does the added difficulty come form lack of familiarity with the tracks?

How high priority are coins? If I understand correctly, they improve your speed stat, but by how much? Should I keep coins as a priority until I hit the cap if I have a choice between a ramp boost and three coins? Or on some of the tracks that make me choose between coins on the inside of the track or multiple speed boost pads on the outside?

I think 1% per coin up to 10%? I'm sure the real experts can give a better answer, but I did have trouble with a time trial until I noticed the ghost took a detour for the coins and ended up beating me on the final lap.

I typically don't bother so much in multiplayer though, with the wonky hit detection there's bound to be plenty along the way. :p

I believe each coin adds 0.425 speed with ten giving you an extra 4.25 speed. I always get coins when they're not too much of a hassle, like the start of Big Blue or Toad's Turnpike and such. But in general I always prioritize the inside of the curve/track since that essentially is always faster

I cannot believe how many ways I've been fucked over in the Lightning cup 150 cc. I've been trying this all week and I've lost out on 3 stars every single way imaginable.

Blue shell right before the finish line of rainbow road or volcano? Several times.
Red shell eats my banana and then another red shell right before the finish line of rainbow road or volcano? Several times.
Have a banana ready at the finish line, ghost eats it, red shell. Check.
Coin only run on rainbow road? Check.

Knowing how close I've been dozens of times makes it so unbelievably demoralizing to hit the "try again" button. The special cup took 2-3 tries max, so I'm not sure what the issue is.

Edit: Finally! I never want to see these tracks again (until mirror and 200 cc, because I'm masochistic)

I swear this 4 1st place in a row crap makes my heart pound like I'm fighting O&S for the first time again.

Dear lord, I feel like the coding in this game picks random cups that will make your life hell. After the nightmare Lightning Cup for 150 cc, with no other cups being a problem at all, I spent today 3 staring the first 8 mirror cups first try. Decided to jump ahead to the bell cup and I've gotten fucked over on the very last turn of Big Blue about 4 or 5 times now in every way possible.

This last one was a doozey. Over the course of the last maybe 10 seconds of the race, I blocked a red shell with a banana, luckily had a 2nd banana to block a 2nd red shell, then got hit with a THIRD red shell and blue shell combo. All that was missing was a bullet bill and I'd be a poor mans version of that Mario Kart Wii .gif

Ay yi yi.

Silently got up, turned everything off, and took my dog for a walk in the dark lookin' like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oabcM9SOF-E

Does getting all 3 stars give you anything? Or is just winning 1st place enough? I'm not about that frustration against the AI.

Can't believe how I struggle to finish not 11th or 12th online. I am usually most of the race 5-8, and then in the last half of the last lap get red shelled, green shelled, starred and bitten to the last place
