Spider-Man E3 2017 Gameplay - PS4 - 2018

in spiderman 2 you could press a button to fucking do jet boost with no physics whatsoever, making you fly like a god damn canon.

Like I get people want to zoom past half of the city as spiderman, but sticking with more physics based swinging where he isn't going to speed up in mid air for no reason is fine.
Speed isn't the issue in Insomniac's game. Their swinging is sterile, by comparison. Very, very sterile. And I would venture a guess and say LESS physics based (the whole floating away from buildings thing because that's physics works?).

The pendulum DOES pick up speed in real physics at the bottom of the arc. Kicking your legs DOES increase that speed unless you've never been on a swing as a child or don't understand how momentum works.

The camera is flacid, through and through. There's no follow through on the arc and it stays almost 100% level the entire time making it look like swings and dips are just you moving straight through the environment. The camera should dip through the pendulum and rise at the top. The camera should lean into quick turns or turns, in general. Not stay 100% level while you hook 90 degree turns on a short web.

There's just so much left on the table no Spidey game has done yet and it baffles me how devs miss the little details in camera and pendulum style physics to really impressed upon the player a slight sense of vertigo and momentum. SM2s was over the top in speed, a bit TOO physics based (smacking walls left and right) and the camera was only half there, but it's still the best we have yet.

This free swinging is sterile. It lacks quite a bit compared to earlier releases. I am disappointed a bit, to be honest.
 
If you think far cry 4 and batman have anywhere near the same gameplay and mission structure then I think that is the strange part.

Most of batman's missions are levels made very specifically. It has some open missions and things to do but not that much.

And the world definitely isn't that big

There is a huge different in batman when compared to far cry, red dead and other open games that just create a big map and splotched enemy clusters all over it. They really are very different

Infamous one has some structures, second son felt a lot weaker and bland in many aspects and that's within the same series.

If I can finish it, then there is definitely a difference. I have newer finished a gta, quit red dead after forty Mintuee. I don't want to do something this trivial. Uncharted is hard enough for me but make it through for story and to see the next local atleast. Open world games feel more like work. All games do have a bit of redundancy and preemptive procedures though, I admit. That's why I want more skill based games and more physics based simulations

Literally never mentioned either of those things and neither are relevant to them being open-world, which they both are. As is Spider-Man and the Batman games (bar Asylum).
 
Why use obscure as villain like Mr Negative instead of Proper Venom,Carnage,Dock Ock,Mysterio etc i will never know.

felt really fresh to me. had to look up Mr Negative right after because this is my first time seeing this villain.

I think its a smart choice if they are showing off that this is its own universe. Besides, those major villains showing up are a given. We got to see some Kingpin too

Looks very good, though I wish they didn't have all those silly QTE's :/
Also I need to try the web swinging for myself the second this comes out.

This is basically the Spidey game I've been dreaming of for years. And the web swinging looks framing perfect!

Great showing by insomniac, seriously can't wait for this.

Excellent traversing options and Spiderman is an idiot as it should be, but qte sections are really not my thing. Combat and gameplay was basically Arkham, which is... good i guess?

All in all i like what they showed, definitely getting it d1 (so basically nothing changed lol).

Yeah, and after Arkham City they'd pretty much run out. By Arkham Knight the only major villain they hadn't already done was Man-Bat. And I use the term "major" lightly. I'll never forget how displeased I was when one of the major side quests in the final game in the series culminates with a battle against Professor Pyg.

It makes total sense to start out with some weird C listers and build up to the A-List. I'd much rather fight Mr. Negative now than later. Besides, I can't imagine Mr. Negative is the main villain, we see him almost get defeated in this video. I imagine we'll see at least one or two of Spidey's main villains by the end of the game, we've already seen Kingpin.

Awesome visuals! I didn't like the eye movements on spidey though, he's wearing a mask, shouldn't be able squint the mask like that, but everything else was top-notch! Not sold on the triggered new movement and fighting style yet where you aim for a triggered event, but knowing Insomniac they'll make it work, Sunset Overdrive had lots of triggered events too.

His eyes are mechanical, I guess you haven't seen the Civil war.

The problem to me isn't QTE, it's that so many things seem scripted. So many cuts away from the action into cutscene, which is egregious for a game like this with fast action.

It also seemed like the helicopter chase at the end wasn't much of a chase. The event would fire no matter how close you were as long as you were in the right spot. There were times where Spidey was closer to the helicopter than at the end but it still didn't trigger the event.

It captures the spirit I guess.
They've said the helicopter could have been caught faster than that.

I did right by having this as my most anticipated game, god damn what an amazing demo.

I never doubted that Insomniac would do Batman Arkham-like justice to Spider-Man.

Seems like this is to Arkham City what Dante's Inferno was to God of War. Kinda crazy how similiar it was, seemingly even in the specifics of the combat (Two-Button-Finishers activated after a specific amount of combo hits). I mean, I really like the Arkham games...but I already played a lot of those.
 
Looks cool, seem to actually take a few ques from the Beenox-games which I guess makes sense since they are good ideas. Such as the web-zip mechanic, and both stealth and combat look similair. They seem to be better implemented though, which is a plus. Just please leave out the longer chains of automatic movement that Beenox had, they sucked. I liked that he had some gadgets as well, and the environmental stuff such as the steel beam look awesome.

The only thing I'm missing is Josh Keaton doing the voice, but I'll survive.

in the sit down interview the game director said there will be a lot of villains in this game me personally i think they need to have the full original sinister six and at least one of the goblins and a symbiote

would also like a guest hero show up at some point like moon knight or dare devil

Spider-Man did some cool stuff but player input seemed to be kept to an absolute minimum. I don't think this will be for me.

I thought that was what we all wanted? Don't fix what ain't broken, the Arkham combat system was always gonna be the way to go here. Hell, I spent years playing the Arkham games thinking "this is basically how Spider-Man should play, Bruce even has the little Spidey sense alert on his head".

Most impressive game at Sony honestly

The entire crane segment gave me the same buzz as playing Arkham Asylum and becoming Batman for the first time
 
They showed one story mission and everyone is losing their minds thinking this entire game is QTEs, lol. Have you lot never seen an E3 demo before? They always pick heavily scripted, spectacular bits. Chill. The crane segment looked straight up incredible and would have made for a hell of a setpiece in a movie. No camera cuts is one of the advantages of working wholly in digital.
 
The suit looked so good in motion. Insomniac also did a phenomenal job with Spidey animations.

Much like the Arkham games and Bagnan, I really do feel like this game will player players feel like they're Spidey.

Huge grin on my face throughout the entire demo.

Loved the look of it but it really seems half of the game is either cutscene or automatic gameplay.

They did say they cut off some of the combat for the demo. Looks like their main intent was to show off the set piece, not the actual gameplay loop or city free roam.

What is it with people watching Spidey trailers lately and thinking half the product has been revealed? You've seen a couple of minutes. Relax.

Aren't you exaggerating a little bit? We've only seen a small segment of the game.

No guys, we cannot use common sense or the fact that Insomniac has stated it's open world, the game will be all QTEs!
