Megyn Kelly under fire for interview with Alex Jones

I can't help but be a little bit amazed at how important television still is in American society.
Depends on how important you consider ~6 million viewers out of ~330 million audience.

Or that most of the interested people will watch/experience the interview through YouTube in some manner. Or just read about it. Or just run for pages off a GAF thread headline.

She defended herself by saying President Donald Trump had praised Jones and appeared on his show. She also noted that Jones’ InfoWars was given credibility when the site received White House press credentials.

Lmao. Terrible defense.

The interview already happened. That's how Alex Jones knows it was manipulated and edited by the psychopathic robot Megyn Kelly to make him look bad.

JP Morgan trying to pull a fast one for brownie points:
J.P. Morgan Chase has pulled local television and online advertisements from the NBC network until after host Megyn Kelly's interview with Alex Jones airs next Sunday

And Jones way out ahead:
On his radio program Monday, Mr. Jones said that he thinks Sandy Hook happened, or at least that children died, though there are anomalies about the event. However, he said that was edited from the NBC promotion. ”I'm tired of being misrepresented," Mr. Jones said. Mr. Jones demanded Ms. Kelly's ”hit piece" not air on Father's Day.

Well what else did you expect when you brought that bozo on board to interview. Of course you wanted ratings.

Yup, TV may still have its viewings, but their firmly much older, and ratings in general just keep falling.

I don't expect much from this, but could you imagine getting cancelled after 2 episodes because sponsors drop out haha. And NBC would be pissed off, 20 million down the drain
Let me check to see how many fucks I give.

Hmmm...

Ah, exactly zero fucks.

Man, Kelly is tearing up the news world. Between this and her hard hitting sit down with Erin Andrews.. keep blowing the lid off, Megyn.

Does anyone know who Megyn Kelly's advertisers are? As a parent, Sandy Hook denialism hits me extremely hard, and I want to write them to express my displeasure and state that I will not use their products and intend to spread the word about who they are endorsing.

Remember when there was conspiracy theories about the conspiracy theorist? Alex Jones was supposedly so out-there and crazy some nut-jobs thought he was a plant to discredit other "truthers".

How times change.

WaPo: NBC defends Megyn Kelly’s interview with Alex Jones: ‘We’re not just giving him a platform’
An NBC executive has defended its new star’s upcoming interview with Alex Jones, saying people shouldn’t make any judgments until they see it in full.

Megyn Kelly’s sit-down interview with Jones, scheduled to air Sunday, was immediately met with backlash, particularly from relatives of those who died in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, which Jones has dismissed as a government hoax to push for tougher gun laws. Liz Cole, executive producer of “Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly,” told CNN’s Dylan Byers that the interview with Jones was meant to challenge the right-wing provocateur about his conspiracy theories.

“We’re not just giving him a platform,” Cole said, adding that “viewers will see Megyn do a strong interview where she challenges him appropriately. … That’s the benefit of putting him out there. When someone actually sits down and asks him questions and he has to come up with answers — there’s value to that.”

Cole challenged critics to watch the interview before slamming Kelly or NBC: “Judge it when you see it.”

And, WaPo: Megyn Kelly dropped as host for Sandy Hook group’s gala over Alex Jones interview
Kelly will no longer host the Promise Champions Gala, an annual event for the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation, a nonprofit gun violence prevention group founded by family members of some of the Sandy Hook shooting victims, the organization announced late Tuesday. The event is scheduled to be held Wednesday in Washington, D.C.
Sandy Hook Promise Foundation statement:
Newtown, CT - Sandy Hook Promise, a leading gun violence prevention organization, and NBC host Megyn Kelly have agreed that Kelly will no longer host the organization’s annual Promise Champions Gala on Wednesday, June 14th, in Washington DC. This decision was spurred by NBC’s planned broadcast of Kelly’s interview with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, who believes the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT, was a hoax.

“Sandy Hook Promise cannot support the decision by Megyn or NBC to give any form of voice or platform to Alex Jones and have asked Megyn Kelly to step down as our Promise Champion Gala host,” said Nicole Hockley, co-Founder and Managing Director. “It is our hope that Megyn and NBC reconsider and not broadcast this interview.”

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
Jesus christ, interviewing Alex Jones before you are supposed to host a Sandy Hook-related event. What a fuck up.

Dumbshits never should have hired a FOX anything to host the gala. Asking for her to step down? No, you tell her she's out of the job.

The issue regarding the timing of this coinciding with the Sandy Hook gala is ill-advised. No question, but that notwithstanding...

I see alot about this "giving a platform" thing. To some extent, I get it. If an interviewer picks up some racist ding-bat in rural Alabama and let them go wild, then yeah...that's one thing.

HOWEVER, it is entirely a different matter when interviewing someone that already has influence. The whole "BUT YOU WILL GIVE ALEX JONES A PLATFORM!!!" Well, guess what, Alex Jones already has a platform that nobody paid attention to and those imbeciles got Trump elected. Alex Jones (infowars), Britbart, and to some extent Fox were able to craft a narrative that remain unchecked by the rest of us, and why it came as such a shock to us rational folk when Trump won.

Look I don't know if Megyn Kelly is the right person to be doing this interview...and yada yada, but as a general proposition.....burying your head in the sand when there are real influences at play and a refusal to acknowledge a counter-narrative that has already taken a firm grip on the country and you are asking for not only continued narrative, but also a weaker country.

Such a weird decision by her and her show to have him on. He's a nut job, a con man and an actor. There's nothing to gain by giving him attention, or "trying to understand him". There's nothing to work with, you're just playing into his hand by giv him additional marketing.

When people say "You'll give him a platform" they mean "You'll give him a platform with legitimacy."

That's what happened with Trump. Trump was the worst of the worst as far as popular Republican candidates go, and outlets like CNN treated him like he was just as qualified for the presidency as Hillary Clinton (or any of his fellow Republicans for that matter).

There was no wisdom about Trump's chances to be gleaned from Alex Jones, Breitbart, and even Trump himself, because they all thought that Trump was going to lose. And when the right pushed the whole conspiracy angle so Trump could save face, plenty of people refuted them. It didn't matter because all the outlets that were saying it was going to be a landslide for Hillary helped depress turnout by making voters complacent.

I watched part of his talk there. He's really trying to pretend like he was having a both sides argument he never tipped to, one way or the other. Scumbag.

Lol There is one guy just hammering him in the comments.

Yeah, 'misrepresenting his views' Did they accidentally imply he gives a shit about dead children?

She apparently took out the part where Jones explained (with evidence!!!) how Obama, John Podesta, and Seth Rich, were able to get an Attack Helicopter killstreak against the Sandy Hook children that day.

alex jones' custody case was far more enlightening than any interview he'll do

There are so many video and audio clips of Jones going on about this thoery, most of which are up on his channel right now.

He's never seemed to shy away from it, suddenly it's NBC's fault.

What a complete fucko.

I don't think anything changes in Western countries when it is a white person behind a mass killing.

But if it is a Muslim or a minority we are immediately willing to increase security and even roll back civil liberties.

This is probably a problem unique to the US (guessing violence is not this bad in Europe), but despite how often it happens we never really react when the perp or actor is a white male.

This is not true, see the examples mentioned in my post. In Germany, we got the "Rasterfahndung" and several new means for police to spy on people as a result of the Baader Meinhof terrorism, we even built a fucking monolith of a high security prison just for them and fucked around with court proceedings laws. Also, a law was put in place prohibiting known extremists for a life time from working for the state in any way whatsoever.

And if you look what the U.K. did in response to the IRA... well.

And last time I looked, well, those perpetrators were quite white.

But yeah, a lot of people here might be a bit too young to remember how terrorism looked before 9/11.

And yet, gross people like Megyn Kelly and Ivanka Trump largely get a pass because they're attractive.

Right. like the delusional and shitty shit comes out of their "pretty" mouths its totally ignored. I just do not understand how these people are apart of these kind of things and get so many passes for being absolutely shitty human beings.

It is still abhorrent if she blasted him for the Sandy Hook thing and made him look terrible in general?

Yes. He doesn't deserve the attention. It still validates his opinion. The mere fact he was on her show makes his opinion more valid to certain groups of people.

I remember who Megyn Kelly was at Fox. She put an ugly energy into the universe for a long time. This backlash is just chickens coming home to roost.

Advertisers withdrawing from Megyn Kelly's show due to Alex Jones interview

By Brian Stelter June 13, 2017: 8:25 PM ET

Multiple advertisers have told NBC that they don't want to be anywhere near Megyn Kelly's forthcoming interview with controversial media personality Alex Jones.

NBC expects the advertiser flight to be temporary, however.

"This comes with the territory," NBC News chairman Andy Lack told CNN Tuesday. "We kind of know, when we're doing controversial stories, that's going to happen. It doesn't stop us from doing controversial stories."
