Well I normally wouldn't feel bad but that was a complete mental breakdown live on TV. Never want to see that happen to anyone.

It feels like players ride a wave like that. Just like a week before Punk started his streak, KnuckleDu was coming of a months-long stretch of looking fucking invincible. Same thing we saw with Infiltration.

I fucking love Injustice but the balance sucks. Its really cool to see someone play their favorite character but then the first time they lose they switch to Black Adam/Aquaman/Superman. Dragon won with Aquaman but he made top 8 before with Poison Ivy (played her the set before and went down 0-2 then brought it back with Aquaman)... its just boring seeing the same characters over and over.

Aquaman single handedly killed I2 for me, I won't watch any stream of it again, not even for Sonic Fox who I'm a fan since he appeared out of nowhere with his random as fuck Mileena.

I still think Punk is the best SFV player in the world. He just happens to have one demon who happens to main a demon. Nobody else was going to beat Punk except Tokido and it was just unfortunate for Punk that Tokido had the most amazing run I've ever seen to make it to GF and win it. Everybody he went through today(except Punk himself) has beaten him or dominated him in tournaments this year.

As amazing as Tokido was today, I'm not convinced he can keep up a top 3 level consistency. Where as I see Punk back in GF winning or finishing 2nd at the next big tournament. And the one after that, and the one after that.

It's interesting bc I don't recall this happening with SF4 so much.

Yes there was the Infiltration reign of 2012 but it doesn't feel like there was a player that was unequivocally best in the same way as SFV, which has had multiple dynasties passed off to each other. The Reign of Emperor Infiltration which led to a short Dynasty of Tokido which was followed by the kingship of nuckleDu which led to the Alphadom of Punk. In between sprinkled with mixes of Dukes like Xiaohai, Momochi, and John Takeuchi.

Maybe after Tokido's reign things will level out and we'll have a more evenish field.

I kinda agree with him although not on severity. This was the first year USA looked like it had a chance. Multiple top players who were at one time considered best in world. More active, dedicated community than ever. A lot of players with a year to learn the game.

I think I said we should be embarrassed if we couldn't take it this year a little while ago. Well, I don't think we can be really after seeing Tokido's play, but it it sobering.

If i remember right did Infiltration reign not last a good while in both SFIV and SFV ?
Still for SFIV by the time Infiltration reign came we already had a few monster .
In SFV it seem people do really good and after a while they lose it .
I also expect season 3 to shake things up again .

It was complete dominance in 2012. He basically never lost that year IIRC, except for da gawd Kbrad. Then in 2013 he had cracks and the reign was ended by Daigo stealing his soul in the FT10 where he won 10-2 I feel.

Too many 50/50's to be consistent at times with sfv.

I was most surprised at Mago drowning in round 1 pools. As the preeminent Karin in Japan, the Japanese pros must have been playing sets with him nonstop to prepare for Punk (as Tokido said he did). You'd think all that practice would have leveled him up.

Yeah, Xian came out of nowhere with that Ibuki at the start of S2 but it seems like the top end players have kind of figured out her gimmicks.

A lot of people were saying experience, but it's really not that, Punk have been in form on the big stage so many times, and even while losing he maintained his composure. Never on a stage as big as this but that's the case for Tokido too.

Dude just lost to Tokido 10-0 before EVO, he knew Tokido had his number. If anything, it's Tokido who choked in their top-16 game.

Mago drowning in EVO's early stages is an EVO tradition at this point, wouldn't say it reflect much on Mago's overall performance... Though he have been missing since early this year.
