American Horror Story: Cult |OT| Sarah Paulson Suffers In This One, It Must Be Good

Totally forgot this started tonight, glad I saw the thread. I'm pumped! I thought last season started off great, and kind of fizzled out so please be good.

trypophobia

Nope, I'm out. The bugs crawling out of the skin during the theme song really put me off but now that the reason for it is known, that the main character has that phobia and there's even a fucking episode called
"Holes"
I'm gonna sit this one out. I might pop into the thread to read people's reactions and get story updates about it but I'm not gonna watch this season. Can't do it. I already have a Top 3 Most Disgusting Memories associated with this show, I don't need anymore. I'll be back next season for the Murder House and Coven crossover.

Uhh so i read that these seasons were supposed to tie together in some way, but i haven't finished an AHS season since season 2. The roanok season sounds interesting and i genuinely didn't know it happened, i thought this was the one they were teasing or something. Anyways, do we know if this is the season that ties some things together or something? otherwise i'll just watch season 6 and not care for the rest.

Only seasons 1, 2 and 5 were nice, I hope this one is worth the watch.

Edit: Roanoke was the last season? I don't even remember, if so, yeah it absolutely SUCKED ASS.

So far the ties have been REALLY superficial, the strongest was probably Freak Show to Asylum because there were several repeat characters but it's not like you're missing out on plot details or anything like that by not having watched them. A character might show up briefly or a location or event will be mentioned, so far that's all it's been unless I'm forgetting something.

It sounds like the connection in this season will be pretty light too, since the cult focuses on clowns and there was a clown in Freak Show and that's the tie they've been talking up. They are planning to do a Murder House and Coven crossover though which sounds much more involved than anything else they've done (most seasons just have them as little easter eggs but that future season sounds like it's based entirely around the crossover from what we know so far).

Also, beware of this kind of thing:

Only seasons 1, 2 and 5 were nice, I hope this one is worth the watch.

If there's one thing I have learned from the past couple seasons of AHS on GAF, it's that NOBODY agrees on what seasons are good or bad. There might be a little overlap but AHS quality is highly divisive. For example I think Season 5 (Hotel) was the worst thing I've ever watched on TV but I loved Roanoke, and I agree that Seasons 1 and 2 were the best. I also like Season 4 (Coven) too, but I also don't feel like it belongs in AHS and should have been its own series.

Your best bet if you have only seen the first 2 seasons is to just watch the others for yourself and form your own opinions. Every "list of best to worst seasons" you see here is gonna be different.

Haha, true

1 - good /decent
2 - great / good
3 - in the running for worst season of a series ever
4 - meh / decent / terrible
5 - okay / decent
6 - interesting /meh / decent / horrendous

I ended up liking Hotel because it was just so stupid and weird.

I just realized I said Season 4 is Coven but that's Season 3, whoops.

Anyway, lists??

S1 - Murder House - Fantastic, the OG, very creepy and good
S2 - Asylum - Really creepy, IMO the scariest AHS season
S3 - Coven - Fun but totally not in line with any other season, should have been its own series ala Scream Queens
S4 - Freak Show - Really boring. Could have been super creepy but understand why they didn't and it just was boring because of it
S5 - Hotel - The worst thing I've ever watched. It had some really cool concepts and the best/deepest characters in any AHS season but the gore was totally out of control couldn't handle it ruined my life
S6 - Roanoke - I really love it, the twists were great, the idea was interesting, it was shorter so there wasn't extra fluff shit

You have issues with Hotel's gore but not Roanoke's? Lol?

I don't mind the gore. There was a scene in hotel that stuck with me. The anal rape by the "Addiction Demon" with a sharp spiky metal strapon dildo. I was surprised that was allowed on tv - even past the watershed.

Yes actually! And I commented on it in the Roanoke thread too, because there was a lot of violence in Roanoke and there was some pretty intense gore but I thought it was handled differently (other than a few stand out scenes) which made it more bearable to me. Like I started getting reeeeeeally squeamish with the torture stuff and thought I'd have to bail, but they'd do things like hand a close-up shot and right before the actual gore happens, cut to a wide shot so you don't necessarily SEE it but it's really implied and you still know what happened. That's enough of a difference to make it watchable to me. I can see someone raise a sword and cut to a shot of the floor and their head rolls into frame but to actually watch someone get hacked apart, I typically can't do that unless it's Monty Python.

Hotel was just like not only really over the top gore but it was also sexualized a lot too, though there's a difference between something being gratuitously bloody (which I can stomach and has been used effectively for even comedic things like in Evil Dead 2) and something being gratuitously gory with people split open and their organs hanging out in a pile in front of them (and yes something similar happened in Roanoke but the over the top gore was an exception to that season, not a rule like in Hotel where it was in like every single episode). A few of the crime scenes were worse than the shit they did in SE7EN and the sequence where you find out how Sarah Paulson's character died has absolutely scarred me forever. That was so fucking vile I can't believe they got away with showing that shit on TV. Sometimes I can even still fucking hear it. I hate it. I'm so mad I watched that because I can't erase that memory and even when I think I've forgotten it it'll pop up again like a witch you thought you killed.

Edit: Ugh I had actually forgotten about the anal rape scene. Hotel to me was them saying "Let's see exactly how far we can push the gore on TV before S&P tells us we have to reel it back"

Yah, and it wasn't even gory or anything, from what I can force myself to remember? Like, I don't see how it was worse than some of the other deaths that have happened throughout the seasons, especially
the disembowelment last season
.

That was such a great line it got me.

This is definitely too real so far but I’m thinking it’s just more to set things up and it wont be dwelled upon.

That's where my thoughts lie as well.

Also that is one cheesy-ass intro. It's trying too hard and going into parody territory.

Gimmie Asylum's back.

The first season is the only one I've seen.

So Asylum is worth it? I have a friend who is a hardcore fan and he swears Asylum is the best season.

As someone who has only seen Murder House, Asylum, and Roanoke,

Asylum is the best of the three.
