And so have I
Honestly, the parts when peeps in this cease talking and instead start punching each other I'd call quite watchable. There is a scale, speed and impact in the fights that I think depicts pretty well what Kuramada had in mind with his ridiculous descriptions of speed or power of attacks that the anime mostly hasn't been able to portray. The attempt to shove entire story up till sanctuary into 1.5 hour movie of course results in comedy ( but that deathmask musical scene was glorious) but if I had to praise something here as well it would be that they made it bit more logical. Most of the Golds just let Seiya&co pass and half of the formers power up is just power of Athena she bestowed upon him. lul at the GoW final boss though.

Nobunaga no Shinobi 12-21

You know, I'm no expert on the period but from what I understand they're actually following Nobunaga's (and Hideyoshi's) career pretty faithfully, in their own way. I've to say that after long break, this lost quite a bit of its ability to make me laugh but it's still anexceedingly charming series.

This show is really weird but so far not in the good way.

Basically an ending I didn't realize I wanted and something a little more hopeful after how much of a downer the show could be. In the end it was a little uneven and sometimes a little bad but it was a fun ride I'm glad I took.

Good character dancing animation in the idol episode, it's was bit anti-climatic but I liked the resolution overall.

Manyuda match was pretty intense, at some level, I knew he would win.

Fitting the two ostensibly strongest characters were left in such a sorry state. I still adore Benten as a character due to not really having a place to belong and for that sense of loneliness that permeates every action. She was this great contrast to the Nidaime who locked himself behind a wall of ennui in light of his own loneliness, a path Benten didn't choose when it came dealing with her own. Instead she's brash and extroverted to hide that. The raw dirty fighting and its fallout was rather welcome too as it was the first time we could see either as they truly were, unable to keep up pretenses any longer. The characters saw too much of themselves in one another and the inner self-loathing was quick to manifest externally so it could lash out at something so very familiar despite not solving anything in doing so.

I hope the novels get picked up someday and brought over in English as I'd love to get closer to the source material to better understand the two. There's a third planned and hopefully a third season to follow so hopefully I'll get a chance to go through all of this again if/when it finally comes.

When they're talking about the public reaction to Elimination Chamber, one of the tweets they show asks the same question.

I imagine Magane killing her creator helped unteher her from whatever obligation bound the others. I don't think there needed to be any real followup either since she was able to leave the conflict on her own terms. If Meteora was anything to go by, she may also have recognized the corrective action of the world would erode her own power and left to enjoy the world she had liked more than her own.

Alternatively, a practical storytelling decision to leave a hero and a villain in the real world in case of future derivative works.

Re:Creators 22 (End)

That was a nice ending.
As a whole, this was very uneven. Some really high highs, some low lows and the rest was alternating between entertaining and bland.
I don't think I'd recommend it, but I don't regret seeing it through to the end. What a weird show.
Disappointed that Magane slided mostly into irrelevance tho.

Re:Creators 17-19

A while ago I read through a twitter thread on acting through animation, it was something I was reminded of today when I watching the 18th episode. I think a huge part of Magane's charm is her character acting. I don't think I've seen a character use hand gestures and body postures so effectively in any other character of this show. You only need to know the look of her face and her gestures to understand that she's playful and cunning.

There's many things ReCreators evokes and puts into thought in regards to creation and creators, unfortunately the latter takes time to sink in and draw an understanding, something that's all the more difficult when binge watching like I am right now. I do think that the setup's at least an interesting enough attempt that sparks a train of thought in that direction and something I see myself contemplating at some point in the future. I'll give it credit for that.

I can't say I'm a fan of how Blitz story concluded, it's not that I don't like the resolution itself but his reuinion and brief conversation with his daughter who was instrumental to his role was a bit sketchy and maybe a little too rushed. I did like the whole encounter with his creator.

Charon and Selesia's story is interesting in the sense that it felt like a commentary on the idea that "hey, I wish this character was the lead instead" with Kanoya chastizing him on acting like a real hero and praising Selesia. I do wish these carried more weight if they were characters, stories and relationships we'd actually recognize but they at some level are something we're familiar with. Mamika and Alice story & relationship was still way more interesting to watch and probably my favorite part of the show even now.

Now do I finish this show today....

Shomin Sample END

This show was a whole lot more amusing than I expected. I thought the shtick of rich girls not understanding commoners would wear off on me but they didn't. The episode where Karen accidentally flips the MC's thigh fetish was amusing for the monologue he went on about it. Karen was also the best part of the show.

WTF happened to the sound effects?!

A very odd episode overall. Definitely felt rushed with the two-minute backstory. But really, wtf happened with the sound effects?! It's the one thing that really stood out to me. It was really weird having the action on-screen undersold by the sound so badly.

Also, Jeanne's speech was hilariously bad. What happened there? Couldn't be arsed to write more than two lines for that?

I wonder if they were running into production issues with this episode or if things just didn't gel or whatnot. It's really weird how much this episode stands out with regards to the rest of the series.

Still excited for the finale, though!

XD

I'd like to give her credit and say that she was too aggrieved to come up with something but that'd be a stretch.

Re:Creators 20-22 END

I've read people disappointed about episode 21(?) and I can understand why but I thought it was fine overall and when it wasn't fine, it falls in line with its "acceptance" narrative along with Magane's involvement. Episode 22 was really good though, a casual moment with their creators was something I didn't realise I'd appreciate. I now wish there was more of that.

Re:Creators was an interesting albeit messy experience - something I had anticipated before getting into it. I still like Mamika and Alicetaria's story the most, something the image above perfectly visualizes.

Not sure if this is the place to ask, but are there any big shows coming this fall? I’m new to the genre (mostly just watching Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia so far).

Depends on your definition of 'big'. In this case if you like those two I assume you mean Shonen action. Biggest thing is black clover.

Super lttp, but I'm confused about a certain individual. Dunno if people could remember far enough back to help.

The girl that can erase things.
Kei's whole understanding of her character revolved around realizing she wasn't immune to the second reset they did (after the first time she attacked them). But she clearly said "full body, ability" to be immune just like she did in the final encounter. So what's the deal?

I remember that part and I fully admit I didn't understand what the difference between the two things she did meant. They didn't explain her power very well if you ask me.

Didnt realize CR wont be getting Monster Hunter Stories Ride ON Episode 49+ what a sad message to wake up too, first PADX and now this, whats the point of getting these anime if youre not going to finish them.

Princess Principal 11

This was contrived as hell.
1. No one knew about their origins, but somehow it seems Ange loyalty was suddenly in question, and members of the team are moved, Zelda appears, they are watched by guards... come on. It doesn't make sense.
2. Despite the previous point, and despite they have deployed lots of people because they are sure she will kill her, later they just *believe* she killed her, without any evidence of the act, without witness, without body.
3. And of course, if a few minutes ago they got fooled because Ange and the Princess switched roles, maybe they should check if this Ange is truly who seems to be.

I thought Ange was going to at least to attempt to die as the "princess" for the hit. But having her try to force princess into her plan of going off to live together is better.

The former is essentially the end result, but it is a more interesting way of getting there. However, it is dumb that they put an emphasis on the "loyalty test" and yet they don't seem to care that Ange pulled off smokescreen shenanigans and doesn't have any evidence of the mission actually being completed.

No singing two weeks in a row. Sad!

Clean Aoyama Episode 12 END

Well DIVE!! easily wins for best sports show of the season. Aoyama really needed to ditch comedy and stay focused on the sport, soccer is good and now Im left just wanting more soccer anime.

Wish this final episode was more Aoyama focused than Zaizan and his mom plot. Oh well. Decent anime.

i felt the exact opposite. The show is awful as a sports anime and should just focus on the comedy.

Princess Principal Episode 11:

I think the fundamental issue with this series is it was clearly meant to be a longer series, maybe two cours maybe longer as when you get down to the brass tacks there has been a lot of build up for elements that either didn't go anywhere or should have been much more key to the proceedings. This endpoint is indeed a logical one with sound reasoning on the surface but this is coming across as rushed and forced for a few reasons. Indeed, the big problem is this series is breaking the show, don't tell rule because we are being told that things need to change because of trust issues that don't actually exist given what we have been show and they have the temerity to point that out in-universe. The real reason we are reaching this point i we are at the end of the episode order and we need to wrap shit up and those seems are shining right through.

What the hell was that? Starting off transformed, Bibury attacks, and the cake all before the op. And suddenly in the past. Are they going for a stable time loop? So a century ago or whatever Noir basically ruled the city, with its sole protector being Cure Lumiere and her underground(?) sweets shop. Okay, I like this premise, but when Noir has basically already won why was Lumiere functionally working in the open? One of the two should've taken drastic action sooner. And when all of this is basically a convoluted path towards getting the next upgrade, it doesn't feel as cool as it should've been. I wish Lumiere herself got more development, but proper adult Cures are rare, so that's something at least.

The Bibury stuff was pretty good actually. She's apparently a lot older than she looks? Well magic, so whatever. Good stuff on her breaking when she realized everything was a lie. It would've been better if she and Ciel had more time together since those two have been built up a bit. Still, I liked her redemption, and I quite look forward to her sticking around. First Julio, now Bibury. This show is actually pretty good at developing its villains. Even the thieves became alright eventually. Gives me some hope for Noir. Iru had an appropriately creepy final battle. Nice new attack, finally incorporating the animals, but a little more baking presence would be appreciated there. The Cures better get use their animals as mounts from now on. An interesting episode overall, but way too rushed. Should've been a two-parter.

Headed in the same direction as the climax of the first season now. Hopefully it does it better.

Re:Creators - Episode 22 (End)
Kinda dumb but inoffensive.

Princess Principal - Episode 11
Wut. This is kinda dumb. Also, why did Okouchi write 10 episodes straight of the series and then let someone else write the second last episode? (Because this is a lame fake ending, and he's busy writing season 2. Duh.)

Frankly, I really enjoyed this episode. I felt there was some really good character content involved and my position regarding this series has always favored that part of the picture, rather than getting too worried about the surrounding specifics of the spying-related activities, because the show has been consistently aiming for a more Hollywood-style version of espionage instead of anything remotely close to an actual down-to-earth portrayal of war, politics and subterfuge.

While I can understand a few of the misgivings regarding the quick pace of events and the inherent contrivance of trust issues coming out now, at least on paper...I also think the fact that the Commonwealth military is directly commanding the spies at this point is more than enough of an explanation. Different leaders will have different priorities or ideas about what has to be done and who can be trusted to do so. Therefore, I don't have a big problem with the new military heads being dumb as a catalyst for these events.

So the team is gone, viva la revolution, and Princess is pretending to be Princess pretending to be Ange pretending to be the real Charlotte. In other words, everything is going to plan. She certainly has balls at least. But why did they just trust her without any evidence? Then again I suppose they don't have time to check things over. Zelda is still dumb though.

Knights and Magic 12
I quite like the rival dynamic between these two engineers. Someone being able to match wits and designs with Ernesti adds some good tension, despite knowing that Ernesti will most likely come out on top.

Revolutionary Girl Utena - Ep. 5 (rewatch)
Miki is a much more compelling character than Kyouichi.
He is looking for some to replace the person his sister was before the concret.
Except, she never was the person that he things she was, so he is actually chasing an idealised person that he made up in his mind.
The battle song seems to reflect that as well, since it's about theater as well as extraordinary and idealzsed persons.

Not realising his mistake, his now protecing his hope and dream on to Himemiya.
He wants to free her, convinced himself that that's what she wants. Touga uses that against him and tricks him into duelling Utena.
Miki lost the duell, despite being the better duelist, because he was more foucsed on Himemiya than utena.

Oh, next season has UQ Holder.
Really curious how that's going to play out, as it basically turns into a sequel to Mahou Sensei Negima, which doesn't have a complete anime adaption. The entire series has a pretty crazy progression, lol:

Start a magic ecchi harem romcom manga -> once it gets going turn it into a battle shonen that still happens to be a ecchi harem romcom manga on the side -> make a rushed ending due to external circumstances -> start a vaguely connected sequel -> after it get's going turn it into a direct sequel and reintroduce many of the characters and remaining plot points of the original series -> end the original series in the sequel again, but better this time -> continue on with the sequel
