Damn, on the director's birthday too. That is a brand new low level of doing somebody dirty. Their PR needs to suffer for that egregiousness.

Whenever I'm reminded of Kill Me Baby, my heart mellows.

To me, it appears to be a thing that taught Narag and Ducky how to behave towards others around here....

Wait, so the director of OPM S2 was fired? Wasn't it supposed to be coming next year, though?

The Kemono Friends director was fired, however fired isn't the right word since he doesn't work for Kadokawa, more like he was removed from the project.

The OPM director is simply busy and we kinda knew the timeline wasn't going to align

It start where it end in the previous episode. Junta (now in his playboy personality), know how to play this game by telling Tomoko , it's not his place to do this (aka: take this opportunity to fuck her brain up as she is now mad love of Junta to the point she don't care if he rape her) and will see her in school the next day. A very gentleman type of guy.

For Tomoko, she is now in some sort of deep love trance and lost her common sense (or brain) after this incident with Junta as she literally gain her strength to break off her love with her boyfriend, Ryuji which I think he didn't expect that from her. This make sense as she was the quite opposite as someone who love her boyfriend and don't really want to break up this relationship.

As for the DNA hunter (Karin), she is in deep shit right now. Not only she use the wrong bullet at Junta, but the bullet she use is unregistered bullet which is actually a crime in her time. Which beg the question, how did she got the unregistered bullet at the first place (you think they is some sort of safeguard to stop this happen) , and second, why she got this job as she isn't the smartest person to do this job. For this fuck up, she now have to track where Junta is and try to get some additional info of his playboy condition and how much it change Junta. For the early impression, it doesn't look good as she notice Tomoko and her undying love toward Junta but the same time, they isn't any massive change toward Junta.....yet.

Before we continue, we should discuss a bit of the Junta Playboy split personality. This personality didn't really change Junta fully as he still have this allergic of girl issue as you got a scene where he still vomit if he see a beautiful girl naked or partially naked. What trigger this personality is

  • when Tomoko shed some tear (aka: girl cries, Junta become playboy)
  • when someone special to him get injured (you see this in later part of this episode).
Make you wonder if this really going to help Junta at all as during the time he become Playboy, he don't tend to remember what happen as you notice this during this episode after the incident. I guess this might be the cause of the bullet and it isn't taking full effect of his body.....yet.

This also trigger quite a bit of emotional feeling between the all the character in the show one way to another in this love charade.

  • Tomoko is now in pure love with Junta of what she saw in him in the previous episode which trigger her to break up her current boyfriend,Ryuji .
  • Junta have a crush with Tomoko in the beginning but after what he heard in the 1st episode, now have a crush with the DNA hunter. Also, he have no clue somehow he is actually getting love from Tomoko from his split personalities.
  • Ami (Junta friend since child) might have some feeling toward Junta which didn't really explore yet but is now hinted after she found out Junta is dating with Tomoko. The last choice girl if you fail to pick up any girl in high school hentai game just so, the player win something.
  • Ryuji, Tomoko boyfriend who is shock Tomoko is breaking up the relationship with him and want to found out who is this guy who manage to beat him with his date. This is stupid in few area as he already pick up chick like nothing now so, a break up with a girl isn't mean much to him as he can get another girl without any issue (like why waste your time with this girl if you already play other girls in dating).
  • Karin Have no love connection with anyone yet but not too surprise if she felt in love with Junta playboy personalities as she might be the type who love it.

With all of this emotional side, Junta got a letter for him to meet up in a cafe where he meet up Tomoko unexpectedly (mostly he was expecting the DNA hunter which he have a crush with). What come next might be the most awkward cringe scene in this entire episode which is hard to watch (and I mean it's hard to watch). Ryuji, now know who Junta is the guy which trigger the break up with Tomoko, hired some gang member from another anime show (i mean, they have elf ear people) and ask them to beat the shit of Junta in the cafe. What you got is someone who never fight before, get beat the shit out of him while at the same time seeing Tomoko getting her clothing rip out till to the point only the bra and pantry is left. Doesn't help Ami, got knock unconscious when she try to help Junta from the gang fight. This trigger Junta super saiyan power and beat the shit of the gang like he is Goku from Dragon Ball (no really, the fight when he transform is like watching Dragon ball fight with Goku minus the fireball). After this fight, you see the DNA hunter realize she have to eliminated the issue now as the power is now awaken in Junta.

I guess the episode is fine and you got to see the side affect from this playboy personalities from Junta which now trigger many event. Will be interesting to see where this go now as his power might not reach his full potential yet and they is a chance this can be stop by the DNA hunter. The whole love triangle will be something to watch as they love isn't connect to the right person and for Junta, this might get sticky as they is now two girls who have feeling toward him and a guy who want to kill him for this.

Issue of the show is still there. The whole fight scene is hard to watch and you think the manager of the cafe will call the police to stop it but nope.

Some screenshot from the episode.

oh god why does OPM have a tournament arc???

Because OPM's premise clearly doesn't last for anything more than a short story.

It really is too ironic, though, just how much it has become the thing it parodied. I mean, that was always somewhat the case but, Christ, what a damn slog that manga, and presumably webcomic, have become.

Wouldn't be surprised if ONE is just stalling so it doesn't catch up to the webcomic while he finishes up Mob Psycho.

I even consider the second part (the equivalent of what will be the second season) of the original OPM webcomic inferior to the second part. It starts having less humor, less short stories, and it forgets it was supposed to be a satire of shonen, turning more and more into another shonen, long chain of dramatic fights included.

given I didn't even know there was a bunch of OVA leading up to this... I am going to go with nothing of real interest was loss lol.

that being said I should go finish reading the negima manga, and potentially eventually read this manga.

So far, the only Anime Amazon has scooped up in the Fall that I've been interested in is Inuyashiki.

The notion that J.C. Staff can't animate as well is just dumb as hell. If they couldn't do it well, they would not have lasted more than 20 years at least. I don't even remember the last good looking Madhouse show not anmed OPM.

Mad House made a lot of anime. Chances are high you've watched one. So yeah not surprised people think they da best. They don't watch the rest.

Neo Yokio: End

This was so dumb it was actually worth the watch. I'm pretty confident at this point the hilariously bad/cheesy pompous dialogue was on purpose. Visuals weren't spectacular, looked more like a discount Boondocks.

Something something if you stare into the abyss too long, the abyss stares back at you.

The webcomic is still nice (but basically on hiatus). The Murata version became an absolute snoozefest.

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Huh, I thought Heybot! ended last week but there was an episode this week---guess this was the finale as the block it's on is getting canned in October iirc.

So, around Episode 40, I feel the show lost a bit of steam around the halfway point but not completely---like it seems here and there there's an episode that feels "normal", basically your usual gag plot without the crazy non-sequitur and visual gags. Not the worst 22-minutes, but a bit dull compared to how manic Heybot! can usually get. But it seems every time a weak episode like that hits a couple episodes later you get an absolutely crazy one, like the episode that's an extended Mega Man parody or the Cthulu episode. And fuck, everything about Awesome Fine Screw is delightfully messed up.

All in all, this is seriously a solid series. Was worried it was gonna grow old after a few episodes, but the fact it actually kind of has an interesting plot threading through the background kept me hooked through the slow moments. Honestly if the show has a great ending, I think I'll totally put this in the "10/10 Anime That Ended" thread.

I don't know what's gonna scratch that Heybot! itch though. That Jaden Smith show honestly seems like it might hit the same notes...just in a different way.

huh? you really think that the quality of the animation would be the thing that decides if a studio would stick around.

it's money/time management and the ability to turn a profit while making anime.

J.C. Staff when motivated can put out decent looking stuff. A lot of times they put out stuff that is clearly low budget and not well animated.

They are a big studio and thus have access to a lot of properties to adapt, and in general as long as the animation is decent (which is what JC staff is good at, being decent) your average viewer won't give a crap at all. But they release decent stuff, in a timely manor and thus can easily continue to get work.

but I can't really think of any JC show off the top of my head I would actually consider well animated.

I mean Soma has parts of it that look nice, but mostly the stills of the food, the actual animation is lacking in quite a few places.

dungeon had scenes that were well animated but in general that series has poor animation.

Toradora has good animation, but nothing great.

Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan was a fun series but the animation was rather cheap

Heavy Object had a rather cheap feel to it as well

Love Stage!! was the same, fine but cheap feeling animation.

index and railgun are again series that have some really cool scenes, but are also full of really cheap scenes as well. likely the best on my list though.

J.C. Staff knows when to focus on scenes I will at least give them that from looking at the shows I have seen, but there is nothing I would consider remotely on par with Hunter X Hunter or One punch man.

and given the animation is what really made One Punch Man special, just having some key scenes well done and the rest being decent at best is far from ideal for a series like one punch man.

Just finish watching DNA2 Ep 03. Will post impression later but man...old anime like this tend to bring back some old memories of older anime which I watch when I was young. Also, kinda bring a very sketchy area of how to watch older anime legally as not all anime are on legal stream site as of now and not all anime which is release in North America. They is one I am going to watch after I finish watching DNA2 and I found out it's loosely based on a movie with the same name. Unfortunately, they isn't a legal way to watch this unless download and the one which you can watch on youtube don't have subtitle to understand. Also, found the North American release of the movie is only in VHS tape which mean quality of the footage won't be good now. Kinda suck when you think about this and how they is too many anime show now and not all have a release which can be watch legally unless you go into fan dub territory.
