Trump to widow of dead Sargent: 'He knew what he signed up for'

The thing is that is truly, deeply worrying about this is that the US commander in chief has consistently demonstrated that he has no conception of suffering, empathy or sacrifice.

When he eventually gets into the shooting war that his machismo longs for, there is not going to be even a second's hesitation about the human cost.

Real evil doesn't revel in depravity, real evil just doesn't give a fuck.

He was going a bit bonkers this morning. What big story is dropping today?

Guys... there's no story he's trying to cover up when he goes bonkers. He's just watching Fox & Friends. Seriously, that's it. Most of his tweet storms line up perfectly with the talking points of Fox & Friends every morning with very few exceptions.

the worst part out of all this is that Trump never mentioned La David Jonhosn's name while speaking to his mother ".. your son"

and to add oil on the fuel, when tasked by reporters on the facts, Trump is still unable to name La David by name nor his mother Cowanda Jones-Johnson by name.

Worst on it, if you want add even more insult, Trump is completely unable to remember the ranks of fallen soldiers and unable to respectfully use the rank of the soldier prior the name as a title.

Trump doesn't give a fuck

Yep. The narrative that he's distracting from something really needs to stop. He's a fucking idiot who spends his mornings watching cable news. Sometimes he has tweetstorms that coincide with a big story dropping, but that's because a big story drops frequently, and he tweets CONSTANTLY.

...THAT'S IT.

The name of that show still fucking bugs me. It sounds like a children's cartoon, and it's driving the direction of US politics.

Is there a separate thread for what actually happened in Niger, I've read a few stories and it seems pretty murky?

I wouldn't want to go down a Benghazi path, but apparently tweets from this morning state they're looking into it.

The only thing I can imagine happening is the administration just downplaying the event to avoid blame, I'm sure the records of the timeline are there, just seemed like it was easier to keep it as low key as possible till it blew up w/ these bodies returning. I doubt there's much to really dig into either way, just no one bothered to actually follow up on what happened exactly due to indifference while all the other shit was going on.

It's really weird how there seemed to be a concerted effort from the WH to act as if the entire thing didn't happen, especially compared to that last rescue mission that resulted in casualties. I'm not sure if Benghazi is a factor at all but something strange does seem to be going on.

If there's something to be investigated, it should be. The issue with Benghazi was it was very clearly blown out of proportion with millions wasted on it all for the purposes of hurting Clinton as a future presidential candidate. The Republicans were never interested in "justice" or even the truth, as you can tell from the fact that they dropped all talk of it after November.

It doesn't mean you can never investigate a questionable mission or event. Just don't be a partisan hack with it like the GOP.

the worst part is that Sergeant Johnson was left behind during the chopper rescue-evacuation. Left unaccounted for nearly 48 hours, until his body was found

Trump though

I wonder if WH staff have to watch Fox and Friends as well to defend against Trump idiocy. He is that simple and they get ahead of the curve knowing that's what he is thinking that day, adjust distract hide accordingly

The thing is he has shown a propensity to act boldly, and this may have permeated to his generals and leaders of these efforts. So if this was a strategic and leadership failure, particularly if due to his fickle nature, it should be looked at.

Has any other U.S. president talked shit about their predecessors after getting into office? I don't recall Bush talking shit about the Clintons or Obama about Bush.

Not like this, no. They were respectful as they could be. I know Obama was casting shade on Bush because of the economy when O got into office, but that is all I can remember.

Yeah, but that's business as usual, so I didn't count those sort of statements when I asked. So no, Trump .... IS doing something no other President has ever done.

I think Trump is trying to ignore it because he truly doesn't see it as something worthy of attention. I think he honestly doesn't think it was a big deal. I think he honestly thinks they knew what they signed up for and that's that. That's why he didn't issue the simple statement that hit his desk. He wants to train his staff and the country to not value human life.

He talks about changing the military, I think this is a big part of it. He wants the military to be more blasé about death.

On both sides.

He is willing to convert human life into PR wins for himself.

After hearing the congress women recount what she overheard I honestly do not think Trump said "He knew what he signed up for" in a condescending manner as it is being spun. Moreover, it should be up to his widow to say she takes issue with what Trump said. Not some congress woman using that conversation as leverage to paint Trump as a terrible human being as if more leverage is or was needed to do that.

How or why they could not find Sgt. La David Johnson for two days I think is the much bigger story and what we should be fighting about. For two fucking days, 48 hours, they could not find him. Terrible.

His family has confirmed the story and that they felt disrespected. And the congresswoman is a close family friend, which is why she was there to begin with.

You’re right on your second point though. Hopefully the military’s investigation will shed some light on this.

Again, Sgt. Johnson's MOTHER agreed with the Congresswoman's account of the phone call which included the comment and the fact Trump didnt (or couldnt) refer to Sgt Johnson by name or rank.

I don't see how you can accuse the congresswoman of using this situation when it all started with Trump's completely voluntary and unbidden, bald faced lie.

He waited two weeks to even acknowledge this man's death in any way and you are ready to give the benefit of the doubt to his intentions? Really?

Trump did not even mention his name nor his rank. He probably still doesn't know his name.

Trump don't care

You must have missed his family confirming the accounts of the congresswoman.

Unless the mother’s word also means nothing to you.

Or he has dementia.

Actually it's probably a combination of both.

no, he doesn't have dementia. He is naturally an asshole who doesn't care about anybody else

claiming that he has a mental condition indicates that we must treat him with care, which is not the case.

Trump is a selfish human being is unable to empathize with anyone else

Trump claimed he never said it, and could prove it.

I'm sure he didn't mean it in the manner a lot of people are taking it too, but instead of going with 'I was misunderstood' he went with 'I never said that'. Because at best it shows a lack of perspective and poor ability to handle a sensitive issue.

AT BEST.

So he felt compelled to lie about it.

Psychologists are going to be studying this president for decades to come.

As someone who's lost 4 family members to alzheimer's (and based on my father's recent behavior that number may soon be 5) I couldn't disagree with you more. I'm not going to pretend I know for sure but the way he's been acting during the last two years fits with what I've experienced. Dementia doesn't make you a different person, it brings out the person you actually are as you lose control of your natural inhibitions. If you're a horrible person like Trump it just magnifies it by a factor of ten.

I'm not saying this to excuse him or make people feel sorry for him as all that's happening right now is his mask is being ripped off.

I guess the thing is... he's been so horrible for so LONG - long before he was President - that we're left wondering if he actually is getting "worse" or if being President put a spotlight on him where before we ignored the endless list of terrible things he's said and done.

I think a lot of people just stop caring what people think as the get older so it could be as simple as that's what's going on with Trump but I remarked to my siblings so much over the last year how much Trump reminds me of my dad's mom as her mind started to go. A lot of people thought she was absolutely hilarious at first and then slowly she became so mean and impossible to be around that no one in my family would speak to her. It was years before we realized she had Alzheimer's and now my dad is starting to act just like her.
