I disagree. To me, the invitation is implying something different about touch. I could understand if this was first or second gen, where capacitive multi-touch was still a novelty, but making a reference to the same 'touch' on a third gen product (particularly when the entire industry is already on board with touch interfaces) strikes me as odd.

iwanttobelieve.jpg

Wouldn't they have said "feel" instead if your theory were the case?

'We have something you really have to see. And touch.'

They might as well be saying 'We have something you really have to see. And we have something you really have to touch.'

The 'see' part is clear - we've never seen this resolution on this type of device before (apart from the few who saw the crazy 2560x1600 Samsung prototypes or whatever). So we'd have to see it to believe it.

But if it was just capacitive multi-touch again well... we've touched shit like this before. Why would they say we have to touch it again?

Conclusion:

We have to touch it to understand.

Sold my iPad2 in anticipation and hoping the stock takes well to the news if any surprises.

Most likely the iPad3 is priced into the stock by now.

How much should I sell this iPad 2 Wif+3G 32GB?

It has a dent on the corner, but only on the aluminum. The glass is untouched. Also have a smart cover and the SD adapter.

I'd be willing to bet the stock will be hovering around $600 a month or two from now when iPad3 is breaking all sales records yet again.

It's probably going to take a hit right after the announcement, especially if it doesn't come with a quad core cpu and LTE like a bunch of the rumors have stated.

What's really interesting is that they decided to show the retina display in advance, ala "Oh that awesome display that has been rumored for over a year? That's in there too". I wonder what they still have up their sleeves(please be a stylus).

Also, is it only me or does it look like the display is laminated directly to the glass like in the Iphone 4 and 4s? That would be huge news for me, I love that it looks like the icons are floating on the glass on the Iphone.

Wow, being held at the same time as the start of the GDC Expo in about the same place in SF. That area is going to be crazy full of people.

Yeah, it seems like these days stock prices usually fall during and after a big, anticipated product announcement. I guess everyone gets too caught up in the hype beforehand.

I like the iPad2 but I'm done with Apple's products until they have an additional storage option like microSD. So tired of constantly having to carefully choose what games, music, books and etc. I want on my iPad when there's a amazingly simple and easy solution to overcome this problem. Whether it was my 16gb iPad1 or now the 64gb iPad2, that's all I do is fight with the storage limit. The device also runs into all kinds of problems when it has less than 10% free. All because they can't stand to see any dollars spent outside their little fucking ecosystem. Done with this shit.

I can't decide if I want to weather it out or sell at the top and get back in for a lower price but what if it rebounds too quickly?

I might just try to buy in some more if it dips below $500 again.

Dude, no. See: Apple TV. Touch: iPad 3. That's it.
Dude, no. Apple TV is a far less significant announcement, if it's happening at all. They wouldn't make that the first sentence. This is an iPad event. There is a picture of an iPad. Both sentences are about the iPad. The first sentence is 'see' because the 'retina' display has by far the biggest hype, and is the biggest deal here.

i'm very skeptical but the way they worded that is intriguing and seems to imply something other than just touching a normal ipad. Whether it be a stylus or this new tech, or nothing...I have no idea.

I'm very keen on the idea of a good accurate stylus for art and even note taking. That would be amazing.

Sure it will take a hit. Then it will continue the upwards trajectory, especially when sales #s come out. The stock was @ 350 after the 4S announcement.

I'm praying to Steve jobs holy ghost that somehow the Ipad 3 is more artist friendly aka. Pressure senstibity. Of course that will never happen.

Dude, no.

But DUUDE!!

That video was posted on YouTube December of last year, and the guy is saying that the tech is 12-24 months away.

Seems to imply iPad 4 or 5 at the soonest...and likely not at all. Apple will buy these guys if they wanted to include this.

What if Apple patented a way to do it better themselves.

DISCLAIMER: I know I'm working myself up here with very vague evidence. But I WANT TO BELIEVE!

Odd person to pray to when he seemed to hate anything to do with stylus use like it was some kind of religion. ;)

I want that too, but the 'touch', the image, and their overall philosophy suggests they're not going that route. But hey... if they can build some kind of haptic crap in there, they can build a Wacom-style digitiser in there too. BAM.

Are you getting this all from that youtube video someone posted?

Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Seriously, iPhones/iPads will never get removable storage of any kind. Might as well jump ship if thats so important to you. For the vast majority of people, storage isn't an issue. And if you're having that much trouble storing stuff on a 64GB iPad, you're an extreme fringe case. Most people don't need their entire digital collection on an iPad, and with iCloud etc local storage is becoming even less of an issue. Adding expandable storage would add more problems and complexities than it would solve, and the general market has shown that it couldn't care less. If I were in Apple's shoes I'd do the exact same thing.

The rest of the industry is also following Apple's lead and moving in that direction. The flagship Android phone- Galaxy Nexus- doesn't have removable storage. Neither does the most popular android tablet, the Galaxy Tab. You're going to have to overlook possibly the best products of the industry if that's your make or break feature.

Of course I'm speculating massively about the stylus stuff. It seems even more unlikely now that I'm thinking about haptic stuff. Apple would be more keen to push haptic tech than stylus tech.

Apple does have a patent for haptic feedback, but the fact that we haven't heard any rumors or seen any hints about it being included in the iPad 3 makes me think that it's still a few generations away.

Apple patents another haptic feedback solution

AppleInsider reports that Apple is still bouncing around ideas for a screen that allows for haptic feedback on its iOS devices. A new patent filed this week outlines a system of screens on a device designed to not only detect touch and protect the underlying technology but also provide physical feedback in various areas of the screen.

This has definitely been on Apple's mind. So it not quite to far fetched.

EDIT: BEATEN! DAMMIT!

plus... what's the highest storage you can even get on an Android tablet? Most devices I've seen seem to have a limit to using 32GB SD cards.

Why do people so consistently let themselves get overhyped with these Apple rumors and announcements? Almost every single time the speculation is ridiculously overblown. Remember when the iPhone 5 ("No, they're not gonna do a 4S!") was supposed to have a 4.5 inch screen, tapered back, no bezel and wider home button?

I wouldn't expect much more than a Retina display and if we are lucky a slightly different body design. This nonsense about haptic feedback is ridiculous.

Technically there's no reason why the iPad couldn't simply be held upside down so the home button isn't showing since it orients itself regardless.

No home button sounds wrong to me.
