Refrigerator, you made your point (which is completely wrong and ridiculous, but I digress) and everyone has heard it, so just stop. Posting about it ad nauseum over and over again is called trolling. Get over yourself, and move on. Please look beyond your own specific wants and realize that for pretty much everyone else this is a complete non-issue. The screen will be better than anything else on the market, by leaps and bounds. You're literally probably the only person on the planet that gives a shit- if you sincerely even do, and not pretending to.

Refrigerator is going to shit kittens when the next iPhone comes out with a larger screen, the same 960x640, and is still called Retina.

I can’t imagine that Refrigerator - the real human being - will care. But Refrigerator - the trolling internet persona - will pretend to have a heart attack and say this is the end of Apple and Jobs’s vision and standards, etc.

Will have

Retina display: Yes
2GB RAM
Quad-core CPU
32GB, 64GB, 256GB
8MP camera
No Home button
Siri support
Haptic feedback
Stylus
New iCloud functions
Smaller mini dock
LTE

Will NOT have

USB port

That was of course who I was referring to.

Besides, the real life Refrigerator might not even like Apple products. Doesn't say one way or the other on his Wikipedia page.

I like how he's making a "that's not enough pixels for me" judgment on a small promo image.

If you use an electron microscope you can see the pixels. That's simply unacceptable and below my standards. Steve Jobs would be rolling in his grave. I give Apple 12 months before they're bankrupt and begging to be acquired.

This won't happen. A larger screen will have a larger resolution. There's no point in keeping the resolution unchanged because Apple will not want zoomed in interface elements.

While the elements will be zoomed, the same elements on the iPad are already larger. They can increase the size of the screen to where GUI elements are at near parity with their iPad counterparts. It can be scaled up to ~4.5 inches before it will be out of sorts. I don't think it will be that large, but a 4 or 4.2 screen for an iPhone 5 is completely possible.

Wow, can't believe those are serious predictions. You're going to embarrass yourself by asking people to remember your post. Bookmark this:

Retina display: Yes
2GB RAM No way in hell
Quad-core CPU Nope
32GB, 64GB, 256GB Will start at 16. 64 max. No fucking way for 256.
8MP camera Possibly. I'd guess 5.
No Home button Wrong.
Siri support Ok.
Haptic feedback Fuck no.
Stylus When Hell freezes
New iCloud functions Why not.
Smaller mini dock Nope.
LTE Slim chance. I'll say Nope.

Seriously, you're setting yourself up for massive disappointment based on unreasonable expectation.

I am real, and while I do care, many of you seem to mistake the careful articulation of my position as either trolling or crazy. I never stated that everyone should be outraged that the iPad 3 won't have a Retina Display. I only expressed my own frustration and disappointment over it. There's no need for hyperbole or hysterics when it comes to electronics or the companies making them.

It is sad, though, that this is what Apple has come to. It's like they are slowly slipping back to the Gil Amelio days. Multiple iPad SKUs with different chips? Adding complexity to the product line?

I'm glad I sold my stock when I did.

Dude, quit the trolling. The screen will be sufficiently 'retina' at most people's typical viewing distance.

smh

Oh, and Gil Amelio was the second best CEO ever at Apple. He did what no one else could do, bring Apple and NeXT back together.

Time for my first Ipad :)

Does anyone know how preorder/online orders worked for the Ipad 2? There's only 1 apple store in this state and I really don't want to brave the lines...

Troll confirmed. Please just GTFO. You're either trolling or you're an idiot, there's nothing in between. And what price was the stock when you sold it? You realize that it's at the highest in its history TODAY? Congratulations on the bone-headed move (that you're no doubt lying about).

Unverified iPad 3 Rumors: Price List Suggests Price Hike Over iPad 2, Shipments to U.S. En Route?

Over the past several days, several unverified rumors about the iPad 3 have been showing up on Chinese microblogging site Sina Weibo, offering tidbits of information about Apple's plans for the device.

One post seems to depict a price comparison between the iPad 2 and iPad 3 possibly revealing a price increase for the iPad 3. The headings are labled left to right: "Apple iPad Model", "iPad 2 US Price", "iPad 3 US Price", "iPad 3 RMB equivalent price". The final column is calculated on the exchange rate.

The iPad 2 prices are in U.S. dollars at the present pricing, which starts at $499 for the 16GB+WiFi model. The iPad 3, meanwhile, is listed at a starting price of $579 for the $16GB+WiFi model and goes as high as $899 for the 64GB+WiFi+3G model. According to the chart, the iPad 3 costs $80 more for the equivalent Wi-Fi models, and $70 more for the equivalent 3G models.

I get you but if that happens, then what would be the point of a larger screen? An iPhone for the elderly? Also, it would be backpedalling from the decision of keeping the screen at 3,5" when they jumped to retina, as I'm sure that enlarging the screen (at the same 960x640) would be easier/cheaper.

I understand though that the developers (and Apple) could still take advantage of the larger screen by designing lower resolution assets to get more shit on screen. But we'd get all kinds of inconsistencies during that transition, and lazy devs wouldn't even bother imo.

My point is that after 5 or more generations straight of keeping the same screen size, when Apple decides to enlarge it, it will be with a focused purpose, and with usability and resolution independence still representing strong values of the brand.

I have no interest in buying an iPad, but I'm so jealous of that resolution. My MacBook Air's screen is trash compared to even my iPhone (maximum brightness doesn't even compare, it's so freaking dim!), and my friend's iPad 2 smokes it in clarity and contrast.

Now iPad 3 is just going to make that gap even more embarrassingly wide, assuming it remains half the price of the entry-level Air. Waaaah, bitter tears!

By the way, how are iAds doing? Apple just kind of stopped talking about it.

Apple has been Jobs-less for like 3 months and you are about ready to hang yourself.

oh cool, is that like an episodic cartoon where they release the punchline later?

Yeesh, it's a comic strip. Which means it is not going to be funny about 75% of the time.

A web-based comic strip is probably not going to be funny 90% of the time.

That site only seems to have one good strip:

I'm hoping the new iPad is reasonably priced.

Ars 2 years ago said:
Competing tablet makers are reevaluating their pricing strategy in the wake of Apple's iPad announcement, according to a rumor in the Digitimes. The article cites the usual unnamed sources in claiming that companies like ASUS and MSI had expected Apple's iPad to debut at $1,000, and were planning to undercut that price by 20 to 30 percent with their own, presumably Android-based offerings. But with the iPad base model coming in at $499—the price of a decent netbook—the companies are now going to have to compete on something besides price.

This is an Apple product; you grossly overpay for it and don't think twice about if the price is actually justified.

I can kinda understand people saying this about the laptops and desktop systems they make, but how are things like the iPod, iPad, and iPhone grossly overpriced? They all seem priced pretty similar to competing tablets, media players, and smartphones.

iPad in particular seems to be priced pretty competitively too. There are cheaper options, but you end up making sacrifices on screen size and horsepower to get something cheaper. As the above quote notes, Apple disrupted things pretty aggressively by making a $500 tablet.
