This is exactly my own debate. I've dropped cable and gone Apple TV only. One in the living room (720p TV) and one in the bedroom (24' 1080p monitor). I'm planning on upgrading the TV in the living room and was considering waiting for the iTV which will undoubtedly have Apple TV incorporated. I think I'm keeping my current ATV2s and getting my first iPad barring some unforeseen awesome ATV3 announcement. I'm expecting 1080p and not much else.

Dude, this is exactly me. I just bought my second ATV2 for my panasonic (1080i/720p) in the family room because the PS3 wouldn't run Netflix when I forgot my sign-in ID info after updating the firmware. I kicked it to the curb for the ATV2 and just plan on switching out everything when the real iTelevision in announced.

We also cut cable and live on iTunes and Netflix. The bedroom has an ATV2. We got hooked there and now we're running it in the family room.

So yeah, I wanna hold out if I can for iTelevision. I'm already buying iPad 3 and my wife will only tolerate so much, LOL! I wanna skip ATV3 if I can.

Yeah, as much as I would want something like that (ala Windows 8 side-by-side fullscreen features) I don't think it'll be happening any time soon.

Instead, they'll continue to improve on the multitasking and app switching abilities, like bringing mission control/espose to iOS in some form. That is a more likely prospect, imo.

Yep...the whole elegance of iOS comes from the fact that everything is a fullscreen app with a unique set of on-screen GUI controls and menus. Apps aren't made to be viewed as tiny little windows, they are all made for a fullscreen experience.

Expose or Mission Control is something that I could see happening, but even then it's not like there is literal multi-tasking supported on these devices just yet. Not in the sense of full background functionality at least.

I sold my 32GB w/Leather Smart Cover for $490 a week ago. Unfortunately the clock is ticking (and potentially expired) on getting a solid price for your iPad at this point.

I'd guess for 16GB you'd reasonably expect to get something like $300-$350 if you act fast. Anything past Wednesday is going to be insane drops if the rumors of the Apple price cut is true.

Just did a quick Craigslist search. Most of them are going for $350 - $400. Gonna sell mine ASAP.

I held on to my Smart Cover when I sold my iPad. Despite the images of the back that has a slightly different curvature, I have a feeling that the Smart Covers will still fit.

I think I'm gonna order online. I had been considering braving the lines at the Apple store but I just can't do that anymore. Once was enough.

So do I, I'm pretty sure the curvature of the iPad 3 where the smart cover sticks on (side ridge of the product) is the same between it and the iPad 2.

Did it once for iPhone 4, never again. Online or bust.

Whoa just read on ars thr iOS 6 has started showing up in their server logs!

Is anyone else selling their iPad 2? I'm not sure how much I should put my 16GB white for.

Might want to do this like..yesterday. Prices are about to drop on these things compared to what you could have gotten a week or so ago. You could still get a couple hundred bucks, though. I got $600 for my 64GB Wifi w/Smart Cover.

I sold mine but definitely debated whether or not I should have done so. I can always get another one if I need to, but I just wanted to see if there would be a "different" smart cover for iPad 3.

Wait what?

Might breathe life into the Haptic Rumors... Especially with a new iOS version.

http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2...es-displays-showing-up-in-ars-server-logs.ars

We don't think Apple plans to release iOS 6 along with a new iPad this month, but it seems clear that the next major version of the operating system is on the way. (It's more likely that Apple will release iOS 5.1 to the public when the next iPad hits the streets.) We're willing to guess that we might end up seeing a preview of the new OS on Wednesday, however, with a release date sometime later in the year to coincide with a next-gen iPhone release.

I can't see the Apple TV replacing my Mac Mini as an HTPC. Being able to play any file with Mplayer is sweet. Still it would be cool if they released a capable enough device, I could use the Mac Mini as a desktop instead.

Lol, I was going to mention it looked like the lorax.

Do you think they will add the new stuff AND bump the storage of the low end to 32gb?

If they were to keep ipad2 around, I'd say they're going to make it an 8GB at $399. Although 8gb does seem really small.

A storage bump would make the delicious tears of the guy I sold my 64GB iPad 2 for $550 to all the sweeter. (Thanks, bud!)

Ugh, I'm trying to unload mine for $600 but I may have waited too long now. Blew it last year too and had to settle for $550 on my 64GB with 3G...

It's not coming out now. Lol.

It will be announced and demoed at WWDC, devs will get betas, then it will launch with the next iPhone.

They also sometimes hold those iOS-preview events in the spring before WWDC. Maybe they'll do that again or they'll give a preview of it in next week's event.

Back when the iPhone released in the Summer, yes. I think they're sticking to Fall from here on out, which would put the iOS 6 announcement around WWDC.

If you're selling the same model (64GB iPad 2 WiFi), it's $599 refurbed. I don't think you'll be able to sell it used for $600.

Check here for refurbished prices: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad You're going to need to undercut these if you're selling used.

Use Amazon to sell, though, seriously (and as a seller, not via trade-in). So much better than Craigslist, and so much better than bullshit ripoff trade-in services like Gazelle.

The thing that (hopefully) makes the difference is that refurbished iPad 2s aren't available in Canada, an I'm selling mine with a Smart Cover. I feel that that (plus the fact that I have the original box with everything) should justify the $600

By the way, I'm pretty certain that Apple's long-expected transition away from Google Maps (they've made a number of mapping-related purchases and hires over the past several years) is going to happen in iOS 6.

Not only did iOS 6 start showing up in server logs (meaning it's getting more widespread internal testing within Apple), John Gruber also immediately dropped a hint about it today:

Foursquare Says Goodbye to Google Maps; Who’s Next? ★
Who’s next to ditch Google Maps? Drawing a total blank here; can’t think of any Google Maps-using platform from a company with a tempestuous relationship with Google.

And with Siri, Apple's got everything they'd need for pretty good and responsive free turn-by-turn driving (the only major feature bullet-point Android's got over iOS right now if you don't believe that [Braveheart]FFFRREEEEEEEDDOOOOOOMMMM[/Braveheart] is a bullet point or a feature). At this point, I think it's reasonable to peg a full revamp of mapping, and the addition of free (and hands-free) turn-by-turn as one of iOS 6's new features.

Yeah, that's been the expectation for a while. Total no brainer to cut off Google where they can and improve the mapping software, which is now the area of iOS most in need of an overhaul.

I haven't used iOS Maps in ages. It's so outdated now. I've been using Waze exclusively, and I'm always surprised by the amount of people on the road with me and around me are using it as well.

I was going to ask this before buying the iPhone 5. I love Google Maps on my Droid X for GPS and recently discovered Waze on my X that I now use, so it is on iOS? Is it free there too?

I still use it as a virtual phone book. It's perfect for looking up a business. I bought a one year subscription to Motion X GPS for $10 to handle navigation. I figure that will hold me until iOS 6.

How does that have anything to do with the new display? They could have done this for the iPad 2 if they wanted.

you could have but it would have been ugly. Having double the resolution will allow them to display things better when only using half the screen.

I'm kinda more excited to see iOS 6 to be honest. And I know I'll probably get ganged up on this, but I wonder if they'll take any cues from microsoft and windows 8... *runs*

But seriously, after watching a comparison of the two tablet OS's, there are definitely some really great things that are being done for both.

If anything, I'd love a change of lock screen. Dat windows 8 lock screen :B

Excited for iOS 6 for my iPhone though. I love software updates with all new goodies.

Don't be surprised if we don't see iOS 6 at this event. It's too close to the release of the iPad 3 to announce it, publicly test it and release it. I think the more likely scenario is that we'll hear about it at WWDC and then it'll launch with the iPhone 5.

I do expect a 5.1 reveal. something around 10 minutes long in the presentation.

oh, I also expect a bunch of demos of apps that will play very, very poorly over text live blogs. the second half of this thing will be a snoozer - until they show off that revamped Apple TV 3.

Either way, I'm interested in seeing what they do, especially as windows tablets will start to be announced around that time as well. There are a couple things I would like to see implemented, especially since both Apple and Microsoft are looking to combine their mobile and desktop OS's.
