The new iPad |OT|

You can use AirVideo on your Ipad to airplay to the AppleTv and play avi files like that. Quality may dip though.

Hm I'm probably better off just converting them then.

What about ripping my Blu collection?

Could I buy a USB Blu drive for my iMac? Any recommendations?

Not liking splashtop. If its good for fast video then I'll keep it for those occasions, but I just find it clumsy to use. Defaulting to touch mode is bad IMO, not suited to interfacing with a mouse based system. Touchpad mode is much better but you can't set it as default, plus I can't work out how to drag something when in that mode.

iTeleport just feels right. Defaults to trackpad mode, double tap to click, double tap + hold for drag, two finger tap for right click.

Iteleport is ok, but it doesn't hold a candle to splashtop

And for dragging... Look at the bottom of your screen man

Seriously? Use one finger to hold a damn button while I use another to drag an icon? That's terrible. Simple double-tap and hold is much simpler.

Double tap and hold is clumsy and inaccurate (that's how it works in normal mode) but you run the risk every time of opening something or right clicking any other way

They are still improving it, far more than any other RDP, and trackpad mode was just added last update :/

Another app just got updated with retina graphics - Netflix. The movie posters look amazing.

(Why does it get such a bum rap in the UK? The selection is pretty awesome, if you're not expecting the latest Hollywood blockbusters).

Yeah it looks nice. They said hd streaming is coming soon as well.

I'm waiting for the iPad edition of wired to update. I'm assuming that'll happen alongside the next issue right now. The text must be rendered as an image or something because it's really blurry. This screen has me spoiled.

Got my Switcheasy Canvas case in today but the sleep/wake function is surprise: not working.

I just contacted them and they're sending me a new one. Gotta love that customer service of theirs.

It's really nice though. And the canvas itself feels wax-coated.

Is it really noticeably warmer in color tone? Not sure I like that... are some units more excessive than others, or is are these tones the same something across the board?

Anyone using a lot of iPhoto? I have a question/problem. I had am image that was 2048x2048. In iPhoto I cropped it to 2048x1536.

In iPhoto the image looks like this: http://i.minus.com/ibsOBCr6nQ9S9X.jpg

When I "share" it to my Camera Roll and go to view it in there it looks like this: http://i.minus.com/ibup8z42BEVjXD.jpg

I am not sure I understand why the image when shared to my camera roll looks all pixelated.

iPhoto still seems a bit buggy. I cropped one photo and then it just squished all the pixels of the original into the new aspect ratio like people that stretch 4:3 on their HDTVs.

Also allot of timeouts and errors trying to sync photos to facebook, but that could be a facebook error.

That looks like a jpeg encoding error, jpeg encodes into 8x8 blocks of pixels to save space, looks like something went haywire along the way.

Seems to vary...

Here is a photo of my 1 (left) vs. 3 (right) with bonus iphone 4 (top, duh) camera set to manual WB K6600

To my eyes the ipad1 is a tad warmer with a slight magenta tint. iPhone4 is cool, perhaps overly so.

All I know is my photos look fucking phenomenal on this thing. :)

I got my iPad hooked up to telus lte today. 30 down 20 up, holy fuck!

It's unlimited for $5 for the first two months. I'm going to be using the fuck out of it.

Interesting... seems like a bit of a free for all, but i'm sure it'll look good regardless, in person.

PS. I notice a lot of you post pics of your iPads/iPhones browsing the mobile GAF, are using the old one. The official one is 'beta' but almost fully functional, and I hear it looks great on retina; http://secondapps.com/mockup

I just received this:

http://www.spigen.com/tablets/apple/sgp-ipad-2-hard-case-harmonie-series.html

it's pretty great. edges are ever so slightly exposed all around, though.

this one:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007CCULOE/?tag=neogaf0e-20

might be good too.

You have some kind of case ADD! :p

I slightly worry with the increased heat generation a back case could potentially shorten the battery life? Probably negligible but I am letting the back be free and act as a natural heatsink.

Gotta find what you like but I disagree 1000x

I booted up splashtop and within 3 minutes I had it down and it worked great!

I like that it defaults to touch controls feels great with the ipad but i can always turn on trackpad mode.

I'm not liking the new one so far. I'll use it when I have to.

issuchathingevenpossible.jpg You could always voice your opinions in that thread, but people are saying it looks good on iPad-retina. Though imo, it looks best on iPod/iPhone.

OT: I'm going to be calling up mall that sells Apple products here
(syria)
day after tomorrow and see if they've gotten ahold of the new one yet.

I plan on a 64GB 4G model, black. I just hope they have what I want, and more importantly, that the price isn't ridiculous due to their import 'fees'.

ok, i have a trip to cancun in june that i'd like the take my ipad on, but in room internet is expensive, so i was wondering how easy it would be to have a mexican sim card sent to the hotel for me to use on my 16gb 4g lte (at&t) and set it up there?

anyone familiar with mexico's cell plans have a recommendation?

I gave it another try. Yeah, I guess it's ok. I hate the dark blue text, but it looks like that is only in the thread topics pages. New features are worth it.

In ComiXology, how do you know which comics are CMX-HD? I have the app but never bought anything from it. Always had analysis paralysis :(

I can't stand the look of the mockup... I won't switch until I am forced and then I will be a sad panda.

As a first time iPad owner (since this baby came out) this is awesome, highly recommend new owners download this ASAP
I had never seen this app, will check it out. I'd recommend App Discovr for those who want a great way to find 'similar' apps to stuff you already like/have/thinking of getting. It's pretty neat;

They have similar apps for music artists and movies, great stuff imo. I'm sure they look amazing on retina too (since they updated).

Did Noteability always have zoom? I've had it for some time, but haven't used it for quite a while. I don't remember that feature. Maybe I should give it another try. I usually use NoteTaker HD myself in zoom-mode. I'm not sure what features DarthWufei is looking for, but there are more in NoteTaker than I've ever used. It seems packed with features. I have a few of the pay apps like Noteability, Penuntlimate and NoteTaker HD.
I think it was added in some update way back, they seem pretty good about addressing some of the more major wants from people (aka copying major features from other apps).
Hm I'm probably better off just converting them then.

Yeah. I think some have some copy protection crap going on with them that causes ripping issues (do a little research before buying) but generally they should work since they all work off a standard spec. I'm not sure if there's other apps for ripping now, but what I use is MakeMKV. For now at least it seems to be a perpetual beta, and there's beta registration codes in their forum (otherwise the app is a fully functional 30 day demo).

Apple just get rid of the fucking youtube app or have it open it in safari if people can't figure out how to bookmark the page properly.

That native YouTube app is in pretty dire need of an overhaul, considering it remains virtually unchanged since the original iPad debut. Probably won't happen with the current Google/Apple relation, though. I've personally just blocked the app with Parental Control, makes every link open in the web app.

eh...I'd rather rely on expert GAF advice. :)

Are you walls bright gold? If not, that picture doesn't do much to show true color.

They all look like that. The only ones that don't, have never been set next to an older iPad IMO.

Mine seems to have a very slight gradient from top to bottom in portrait, so I'm stuck just like everyone else. Risk a swap and getting stuck with one that has more problems than this (backlight bleed, dead pixels). I refuse to be the guy who strong arms the management into letting me open 15 iPads because I have OCD and read macrumors forums 24/7.

The new Air Video update is going to add native res desktop mirroring, holy shit that will be awesome.

Taken on iPhone and edited on iPad iPhoto.

Very nice. I don't know about you, but I can never resist using tilt-shift on everything. It just works on so many kinds of pictures even if it's subtle, it does a lot to make up for the fixed aperture in iPhone/iPad cameras.

Went to the apple store earlier and they gave me a brand new iPad in exchange for my cracked screen. Apple is so great :) :)

I'm honestly happy for you. When I read your story I felt really really bad. Apple Customer service never fails to impress. For every horror story there are hundreds of stories like yours.
