There's a chance it's credit that only goes specifically towards something, it won't list on the page what it goes to though.

This is accurate. That credit widget is kind of funky and will sometimes display a value for credit for an entire category when it is really just for one game.
Sorry it is confusing. Like the clearer definitions for DRM on the product pages, this is something we're working on.

So I still don't get it. It says that Game Downloads are part of the promotion. So I tried to see if I could apply it to just one game and it still doesn't show up as usable.
Nope. If you liked DA1 then it's best to stay away from 2

Wanted to follow up on this again. I heard back from our OPS and Engineering teams and they informed me that we actually have code being tested to move to production soon that addresses issues like this.
Unfortunately I have absolutely no idea what the technical implications of that statement are past "this is being worked on".
Sorry again for the frustration, I'm glad you were able to get your game working, but wish you wouldn't have had a negative experience.
Hmmm, can you tell me what you got the credit for? I can then ping the team that set it up and see what's up.

DA2 is like an arcade or heavily consolized version of Dragon Age that was underbaled by about a year. But it's not terrible, but it's definitely not up to Bioware's best efforts at all. If it were called Dragon Age: Exodus like it was originally supposed to be called, I think people would've been "slightly" easier on it. It definitely doesn't deserve to be called Dragon Age 2.

Basically my thoughts exactly. It's still a good game, but not the same as DA1. A lot of people thought the DA series was going to be Baldur's Gate all over again, and attached the phrase "spiritual successor to BG2" all over the place.

along with what jediyoshi said i would say to check the email account which is linked to your Amazon account to see if they sent an email about your Promotional credit. It might tell you how you got it and what it can be used for.

Okay I went through my email and found what the credit is for. I bought a laptop last month and got $10 in credit for MSFT Office.
NOW I get why I can't use it on a game.

so how does amazon handle duplicate game purchases? i bought darksiders a while back but the upcoming THQ bundle looks tempting. Do i literally see two darksiders in my games library?

No it will show the one entry for the game but the "quantity purchased" field will show the amount of times you purchased it and the activation keys will be under it.
I think this changes if the game has a different SKU (like a special edition/collectors edition of sorts since that is listed separately)

This is accurate, you'll have 1 "title" for Darksiders but 2 product keys listed under it. It will tell you the date that you received the key as well so the latter one is your "duplicate".

If your asking what a gold box event is, it's where they put up a product once every hour or so at a deep discount with limited availability. On black friday, for instance, that's when they usually put major holiday releases down to ~28 dollars.

Khold hit the nail on the head regarding what a gold box event is. As for digital products participating. If there is a PC product participating that we carry we will often have it at the gold box price. I'm not sure if this is the case this time though. Finding out now.
