Halo |OT12| Last One Out, Get the Lights

Been playing a lot of Reach. The fact that I am somewhat enjoying it... I feel like my whole life has been a lie. Reach is still fucking terrible, but a million times better than anything in Halo 4.

I have to remind myself after every game of Reach that Halo 4 is out and yet I am sitting here playing Reach instead. Fucking terrible that is has come to this.

No matter what, I'll never play Reach again.

H4's core gameplay is solid it's the added extra layer of crap on top that's ruining it for me.

haha yeah, reggie. i'm telling myself to love halo 4 all i can, even sticking to objective or swat playlists but reach always finds its way back into the xbox.

the missus literally says every day now that she hates 4 (she was extremely hyped before release, we attended a fucking midnight launch with an 8 month old daughter) and asks to play reach if i want her to splitscreen with me.

not totally giving up though. I'm almost at SR50.

Reach? The hell is wrong with you guys.

Just pop in Halo 3.

there's still a sizeable online population compared to 3. (even in the anniversary playlist!)
not to mention reach runs at a much more stable framerate across mp maps.

The Boltshot sucks. Goddamn spawn Shotgun.

Just won a game of regicide in the last second. Only 30 seconds of king time. Thats how you get it done. Bring Back FFA

Can someone render this cl-? Nevermind I filmed it off screen. 2012,

That's why I love Regicide, it can get goddamn tense. I still have a cool clip in my File Share showing me barely ending up second when the king landed his game-winning headshot right before I plunged a knife in his eye.

Wow, my sentiments exactly. Also, love the display pic. Tommy Wiseau is a god amongst men.

Wait, a guy who went 16 and 13 beat you, even though you went 27 and 15? Wat.

Hirednoobs, plz defend this.

Seriously, I'm dumbstruck by this.

Welcome to the game where everything is made up and the kills don't matter.

Oh, one other thing, I wish thruster was as strong in MP as it is in campaign. It makes you go a lot further - so much fun to use.

Don't get me wrong, I love thruster - it's my go to AA. I just find it so much more fun with the extra grunt given in the campaign version.

I'm glad that people aren't blinded by nostalgia... Seriously though, what's with all the people saying that they're going back to Reach? Not just on here, but on Waypoint too (Noticed lately the two forums aren't all that different).

I think I've been quite vocal with my complaints about the game (sometimes even just ranting), but come on. Halo 4 is still miles ahead of the shitfest that was Reach. The core gameplay is great (the guns feel accurate and reliable and I honestly don't think I've ever died in such a way that couldn't of been prevented by playing a little better), the maps are 100x better than Reach's and so far, in my experience, games haven't been ridiculously lopsided - again, like those in Reach.

The game has some problems, but saying shit like "Halo is dead" is just retarded.

I should never be able to die, respawn, and finish off my own kill before his shields have even started to recharge. Ever. You're talking about a game with a significant recovery time for damaged players, where people can spawn with a weapon that crossmaps with ease. I should never, ever be able to get a double kill, die, respawn, and then get the triple.

Respawn timers help to dictate the pace of the game. It's a drummer in the band, without it you get chaos. Before, he had a drummer pal named Weapon Spawn Timers that chimed in with the triangle a few times per match to help out, but he died. In objective games, where their effect is most obvious, the currently-glitched instant respawns mean that the pace of the match is totally destroyed, you can't get that Overkill, tell your team, and then reliably make a push for the objective because the enemy team you took out are already respawning by the time you tell them.

Oh, you can instant respawn in objective games? Which ones? I've never seen that. It's only supposed to be enabled in Infinity Slayer and BTB, right?

I'm becoming more and more convinced that it's actually slower than strafing in ALL directions in multiplayer, making it beneficial only when used in the air.

Okay, reggie—good to know. Have fun with Reach! I sure didn't.

*hugs his Halo of Duty, the perfect blend of sugar, spice and everything nice*

I just can't play on splitscreen anymore. It takes too much away from a game it could be said is already lacking in certain respects. I come home to find Krow playing and I just don't want to take away so much of his experience. Never mind the inherent loss of a full screen, it's stuff like post match credit screens, any killcam, increasingly severe frame drops... I just can't.

so it's not just me, splitscreen experience really is that bad. it's always been an important part of halo, bungie knew that and kept that in mind for pretty much every other halo game. seriously, complex runs at single digit framerates nearly the whole time in splitscreen. so does vortex. the scoreboard is fucking tiny and all caps is horrible for anything that's meant to be easy and quick to read. killfeed is a joke. and I don't care for killcams, but why do you leave that out for splitscreen players? shouldnt have even added killcams if you aren't going to allow all players to see them. radar elevation indicators become hilariously small too. diamond with a little arrow on top? should have kept it a triangle.

and I'm talking only splitscreen issues here. not even going into fundamental gameplay flaws.

ive had my "fuck armor lock piece of shit, can't wait for halo 4" moments in reach, but never would have thought I'd have so many more annoyances and frustrations in 4.

Yeah, I've pretty much only played Halo on splitscreen for so many years at this stage. Started off with system link on Halo 2. I could live without callouts on Reach and the draw distances were manageable. Halo 4 co-op campaign was a chore. Our first run of it marred by the crosshatching effect on distant objects. Enemies have a tendency to render before the cover they're hiding behind.

The whole thing makes me not want to even bother with splitscreen. That'd be ok but I've spent the last few years more than happy to.

Like people have said before, Halo Reach while shit is still Halo. Halo 4 is fucking Call of Duty with a Halo skin. Halo 4 is so far gone from the Halo formula that it is now impossible (unless 343 admits they were wrong, lol, as if) to go back to what Halo is. In that sense, yes, Halo is dead.

This is why I've gone back to Reach, because no matter how shit it is, it's still Halo. Halo 4 is not Halo. Sorry.

Hyperbole all over the place. Like one guy said before, I would love to see people having the fun I have with Halo 4, but I understand that some of the flaws it has are to much for some people. Anyway, saying that Reach is better than H4...well, for me that means that you didn't even try with this one. Anyway, hope 343 fixes some things so everyone can enjoy H4.

Strongly disagree. Whilst it has 'borrowed' a heap of mechanics from Call of Duty, none of them are core to the gameplay. The core of the game is still Halo, and it plays like Halo.

people prefer reach over 4? what the hell.

There's always a few.

Strip the killstreaks and perks and all the other dumb back-patting/hand-holding/you're a megasuperstar for doing virtually nothing bullshit from Call of Duty and you've got one boring shitty fucking game that nobody would ever play.

Strip all that shit from Halo 4 and you've got the greatest FPS of this generation.

I think I prefer Reach as well at this point. Being able to actually play gametypes I enjoy is a big plus. Getting a bit tired of Haven.

I don't necessarily agree that this is Call of Halo, but the way ordinance and instant respawns and all that stuff are implemented in the current playlists make them part of the core gameplay.

What?

Sprint is 'core', it cannot be removed.

Flinch is 'core', it cannot be removed.

Instant spawn is 'core' in Slayer mores and cannot be removed.

Reach had sprint.

Flinch can be removed (Stability Mod).

Instant re-spawn, I agree. However I don't think it's such a huge deal as people are making it out to be. (They need to remove it from SWAT and Snipers though)

Jetpacking breaks map movement? It also "introduces new map movement." Really, all armor abilities "break" some aspect of the game. That's the fun part about them. The trick? Play the playlists that don't have armor abilities. There are three of them. Or bump around in Customs. Tons of gaffers here hate armor abilities, too! I personally enjoy the game "breaking" sandbox.

I'd respect your feelings about jetpack or even camo if you didn't hate on PV. PV is such an overrated ability. I've never felt like I died to someone because of PV. It has a huge cooldown. If you think it's giving you a distinct disadvantage, you're welcome to wait for the ping to go away, or even use it yourself. I use PV on Dominion because people camp bases. I'm glad it's there.

And yeah, it sucks that there isn't a better playlist catering to solo players. I've always felt that Halo by yourself was poor, though, again. I play it for the teamplay. For the social aspect.

Weapon spawns aren't totally random. If the Rockets spawn, they spawn in the same place. If the Sniper Rifle spawns, it spawns in the same (or one of two) places. Go check out Forge. Camp Binary Rifle spawn or Incendiary Cannon spawn, with an eye to the other locations. Run with the Rogue (?) spec that lets you anticipate what's coming. It's not a complete gamble, and I like that it's not a certainty, either.

And again, how many melees should it take to kill someone?

I agree fully with this post, halogaf is just too damn salty.

I wish one forward facing melee triggered an assassination personally, it's stupid that if I run and punch someone it doesn't kill him, that would be a one hit knockout in real life.

I also wish people in here would stop bitching, all I hear is 343 screwed up this, 343 messed up that. I think they did a really good job considering it was their first attempt at making a call of duty game.

Yeah - im reusing jokes now, xand and krow are a terrible audience

Wow, a CoD comparison, really ? Halo 4 is nothing like CoD, it doesn't even have skill-based ranks.

Halo 4 is better than Reach for the mere fact that I'm not stuck using the DMR every game. And the AR is actually a useful weapon now.
