Halo |OT12| Last One Out, Get the Lights

Damn, this game sure does attract it's fair share of morons.

Just finished a btb on Ragnrok (surprise!), where our team did absolutely nothing at all.
Then two on our side quit, and another two started driving around like retards with mongooses in our spawn. Running people over left and right.
Blasted them of their vehicles as I got fed up with their shit.

Bit later they were at it again. It's the first time I actually chose to boot someone from a game for teamkilling. Smh

I haven't had many problems being matched for the most part. Ive had one game this morning where i was on the black "host just quit" screen for about 10 minutes where the game tried to start up and never did. So i quit out. Other than that one time, its been pretty good for me.

FWIW, JIP has a lot to do with why I've been googling how much I could fetch for a used copy of Halo 4. Every other day or so, I think I might want to try it again. Then I'm reminded that odds are I'll just get air dropped into some game in progress, on the losing end. And it just saps any desire I have to put the disc in.

It's not the only reason. But it's the one I think of first when I consider going back to Halo 4.

Now would most certainly be when you would get the most for it. It might be worth finishing off the Spops stuff first though? If you have the cash its probably worth holding onto the game (for the next 6 weeks at least) just in case they really pull something special off there.

I don't know how much a game could devalue in 6 weeks, and I don't know how likely it is that Spops will get to the point where its worth that net loss. I personally would wait it out as I would personally hate to potentially miss out on something for the sake of the cost of a movie ticket (I doubt the game would devalue more than that).

I think ultimately the pressure on the Spops team is going to be what hurts Spops most of all. The weekly Bulleting kept making reference to the pressure those guys where under, and I doubt it will be as good as it would be if they had a decent amount of time.

If the content is episodic why push yourself to such a tight schedule? Why not release every 2 weeks? I am very impressed by how fast they work, and even more impressed by how they seem to be delivering this content directly into the game, but being impressed by the workload and technical side means little if the missions themselves stagnate.

Hopefully Spops keeps getting better, I still think its a missed opportunity to give us something a bit more creative though. I may be eating my words is we have bigger and better yet to come!

Talents

Banned
Talents is actually the best player in the UK so of course it can't find a suitable match.

Probably am. Most people in the UK suck.
I said most, any UK people here don't get all annoyed.

Come again?

When I played the game up to about the 12th November there was only a few occasions where I got matched up to people with similar skill. I had 20 losses ish, 12 of those loses I'm going to say were from JiP/getting Ragnarok as a map and leaving, and a few of the others were from when 2 of my mates came round to play and they suck so yeah they f'd up my KD hard. Apart from 2/3 that I am able to recall, I next to never went negative, nor got matched up against teams where I had to but my try hard hat on.

When I get some time I'm going to try and make my own version of Infinity Slayer, should be interesting. Just a few questions beforehand.

What should Personal Ordnance include? Options are:
-Weapons
-Grenades
-Powerups
-Armor Abilities

Should Personal Ordnance be rewarded like usual, or only for team-based medals, such as assists? This would prevent them from being outright killstreaks.

What loadouts should be included, provided custom loadouts wouldn't be allowed?

I remember you and other people being against it when it was talked about pre-release, so this is no shock. If JIP is the main thing making you want to take the game back, well that just seems silly to me. Especially for someone like you who doesn't like MP much anyway. Also if you're getting stuck in at the end of the game finish it out and you will start a new fresh match. Keep doing that all night and you won't have an issue.

Getting thrown into a match just ending has happened to me so few times (and even then, its a small price to pay compared to just being stuck with men down a la Reach) that this being the reason to stop is just baffling to me.

But I haven't played H4 in 11 days, I'm gonna be off as hell D:.

Anyway, I've played with you in H3 against some other Gaffers, I know you're good from when we sat on the enemies side of the map on Avalanche and just spawn pwned them repeatedly.

Halo 4 1v1!???

Hahahahaa Oh lawd, lololol.

No we play a real mans game... pokemon.

I really just wanted an excuse to play Halo 3. Would totally do a friendly Halo 3 1v1 with anyone

I also miss Gaf customs, I may try and sneak into them tomorrow.

I think Ghaleon has major issues with more than just MP.

I had some fun with my last few games.

I love the Incinerator cannon in KotH. Why did the noob use it for one person? Wait till the hill is hold by 3+ enemies and boom!

The implication being I pre-judged the game. I did not. I played it to see how it was, and then posted my thoughts after doing so. Give me a little more credit than that, dude.

I also have not said that, though it's one of the main reasons I don't want to play it right now. I've put a few thousand words down in these threads talking about the things I didn't like.

What I want to do is sit down and have a good, end-end game of Halo. The last several times I tried that, I got dropped into games like, CTF on Ragnarok down 0-3 with both Mantis camping the base. Yeah.

Especially for someone like you who doesn't like MP much anyway.
I do like MP and have played it for 10 years. Remember picture stories? Or the scores of hours I poured into building Halo 3 maps, testing them and building again? Or the Forge blog? (Okay, that one is more obscure.) Halo is the only MP game I've ever played with any regularity, and while I've always been more of a co-op or Campaign player at heart, I've loved Halo multiplayer dearly. I don't know how you could have gotten the impression that I don't like Halo MP.

Also if you're getting stuck in at the end of the game finish it out and you will start a new fresh match. Keep doing that all night and you won't have an issue.
This is true, but telling someone they have to play a chunk of something terrible before they can play what they want is like telling them they can have dessert right after you kick them in the balls. How about we skip to dessert? No? Okay....

Just an FYI, Gamestop slipped in this little paper thing when I bought Halo 4. Says I can get $30 store credit when I trade in H4 by December 4. More if you're part of their PowerUp thing and if you trade it in towards a new game.

1. Actually wasn't implying that, just saying I'm not shocked by you saying wha you're saying.

2. Me saying "main" was as vague as your "a lot" I mean unless you want to dissect it down to percentages we can't really clear this up. However you brought up JIP in the context of returning the game so I replied in kind.

3. I remember picture stories from campaign and firefight. I also specifically remembering you saying MP wasn't really your thing. Perhaps I misconstrued that.

4. Well the good news is matches aren't long and the less "long" they are when put on a losing team, the less you have to wait. Conversely the longer you have to wait the more "fresh" the match is so the complaint becomes moot.

Thats how every MP game out there is. You go play any game on pc, console or whatever and you sometimes will go into a game that's already started. What have you replaced Halo4 with? Does this magical game not do exactly what Halo and every other MP game out there does? Let people join or quit at any point?

I mean come on, you're bitching cause you don't like going into a game that's already started. Fine. You must not play many MP games then cause they ALL do that.

The less time you have to play the more time gets eaten by those short 'might as well not play' games that the game forces you into.

The fact that you end a game and then everyone leaves forcing you into another unbalanced game is also pretty terrible. This is clearly down to the Halo implementation of JiP rather than JiP itself as at least in CoD they somehow manage to hold onto the players so each game starts off pretty full.

I know JiP is ruining a lot of the fun of the game for me, going up against a random set of carouselling players is less interesting than going against a set group of people. Really takes the personal feel out of it for me.

This argument just doesn't hold any weight for me. Are you literally only getting on for 15 min? If you're even going to play a handful of matches JIP is still better than no JIP. Sure it has issues, most games do. But Halo is better off with JIP. As for the carousel of players part of your post and wanting "fresh games" that's more or less a Halo "purist" argument. You can still get that , play customs, join gamebattles etc, but tha style of Halo is gone and has been absent from games for a LONG time. The lack of JIP in halo up till now was mind bogglingly backwards IMO.

JIP has not been as much of a problem for me lately. I've turned around or have gone on to win most of mine JIP games lately. My only gripe is when it tosses me into the game and as I'm playing it decides to do a host switch which makes me wonder why it did not do that as I was joining. But I don't know how it works so whatever.

I completely agree with you. How it took this long to have JIP is fokin crazy. That and playlists by gametype is a heaven sent for me. I can play exactly what i want and not have to worry (for the most-part) about the quitting. Its great.

I'd agree that starting games with lopsided teams seems like a giant mistake. Luckily its been relatively rare - maybe 10% of the time? And 90% of those matches fill in with team members within the first 30 seconds. Anecdotal only, of course.

What does happen a lot for me is being put into 3 vs 4 games of Infinity Slayer when we run a party of three. Sometimes matchmaking will just never give us that fourth member for some reason. Didn't happen last night though.

That and on the few occasions where I've played in a full party of 8 we'd always, 100% of the time, have one player split off on to the other team.

All of these problems seem like bugs though, and solvable ones.

WTF is with this mentality? I guess I am out HaloGAF.
Hope not. Didn't get the chance to mention it earlier but that was a great post breaking down the Halo 4 campaign. You put words to 99% of my gripes with it. Nailed it.

I think the pure feeling of the spartan armor, moving and firing the weapons, and exploring different loadouts is enough for me to overlook those problems still. And if it wasn't for JIP, I doubt I'd still be playing the multiplayer, so I guess it goes both ways.
