Not a big deal. Just thought it was funny lol
Jealous much?

It's just bad. I'm currently sitting on two codes for the specialisations. Krow used the only one we got in the LE. We were just at Gamestop at the right time on launch night and each got a slip with the codes on them.

I don't know if I'll use it though. I've been in the high forties for more than two weeks now. I just stopped playing. I feel like a fool for buying a 12 month sub for gold. I've always played the shit out of any sub I've had. Now I watch Krow play because splitscreen just reduces what little enjoyment this game offers.

We got codes for a BR skin and an armour skin but because it only unlocks for one account, we haven't been able to decide who gets what. Now that we've unlocked similar stuff in-game, we just stopped caring.

I struggle to think of a geographic community or an in-game community that hasn't been seriously shafted by this game. Yeah this game does some things really well but who comes out the other end feeling good?

Anyone who's ever shared a screenshot ever?
Those people who submit clips of awesome or funny moments?
The people who compile those clips into?
People who run tournaments that want to get the latest gametypes?
The people who want to tweak existing gameplay facets to suit what has essentially been the norm until now?
Everyone who primarily plays on splitscreen?
Those friends who you invite over to enjoy the game you do?
People in Europe?
People who want the ball in Grifball to blow up?
Anyone who's ever enjoyed a custom gametype based off of Infection?
Anyone who liked Race games?
Austrailians?
People who bought the LE from only one retailer?
People who didn't by the LE?
People who enjoy one-flag/bomb variants?
People who enjoy any bomb variant?
People who enjoy hosting their friends in online lobbies for a night of matchmaking?
Players who enjoyed Firefight?
Mexicans?
People who enjoy Spartan Ops?
People who speedrun Campaign?
People who don't like flinch?
People who want to enjoy the story of Campaign who haven't read the books?
People who don't want to JiP?
People who wanted a global feeling of worth throughout their multiplayer games?

I'm sure there are people out there who can answer yes to any of those questions and all I can say to them is;

"You lucky bastard".

That's been one of the disappointing aspects of 343's takeover of Halo, and it's the high amount of DLC locking. The bonuses for Reach and ODST unlocked for every account on the Xbox; if my brothers or friends played, they could don the flames. If you bought Noble, it acted like a software key for the achievements, so while they only showed up / were obtainable if you owned Noble, you were at least able to get them on any map. Which was a vast improvement from Bungie's mistake in 3 of "Must get 3 oddball kills specifically on these maps", which I barely know anyone that did them legit, just mass lobbies so everyone could move on. The first Defiant achievements were this way too, since Bungie had programmed them into the game.

Microsoft takes complete control, we get the TU and their idea of achievements. They're only obtainable on the specific DLC maps, and it adds new Defiant achievements (that they never really advertised or made note of) that you must get specifically on Defiant maps and have to own Anniversary to unlock them. So now you have to have a map pack that acts as a software key for another map pack that you have to be specifically on to obtain them. Who thought of this?

Then Halo 4 comes out and they account lock every single armor bonus. Guests can't customize anyway, so was it really worth preventing other people on the box from being able to use them? Just do it like Reach did, you can use the armors while on your box but it reverts once you go back to your own. All in the new of a few more bucks so someone's brother or sister can have armor too, I guess.

All that effort into server side checks and armor control but they can't be bothered to give us a toggle to change our nameplate in Reach.

I'll give you a cookie for the BR skin. :3

Damn you!

Commendations and challenges commit the cardinal sin of negatively influencing in game player behaviour too. Near every time I play complex, some guy jumps straight in the ghost and just goes for splatters the whole game, doesn't even bother to fire the plasma cannons. All for a shitty green visor. It's annoying if they're on your team going neg in the name of a visor and it's tedious to fight against.

Challenge today: 'complete a war games match with at least 15 kills without dying'. Ok, let's go and play objective and not play the objective (not that that bothers me but I don't think it should be actively encouraged, it should have been in a slayer game only).

And Hydra, I feel your splitscreen pain. It worked great in H3, depreciated a bit in Reach, noticeably if you were playing hem or btb maps but Halo 4 is nearly unplayable splitscreen. Complex drops to a slideshow regardless of what's happening on screen. It's not a huge huge deal to me but it has put a complete full stop on my bezzie coming round and playing split for lols. They put split in even though it clearly doesn't function but they refuse to put party theater in...

Codes giving early access to six Specializations were sent yesterday. I’m currently following up with that team to find out if all the emails have been sent (UPDATE: All emails have been sent). The email says the following and includes an image of Master Chief and the Halo 4 logo.

And so it has begun, the great shitstorm of our time.

Why couldn't they have just added a button that unlocked the Specializations on your profile for Waypoint? Waypoint kept track of what day you started playing, so you should have just signed in to Waypoint and just hit the button that either gives you the code or just unlocks it right then and there. Like the Vidmasters and Recon, or like the Halo PC or Halo 2 nameplates in Reach. The idea that this had to be sent out via email is ridiculous.

I mean, this makes it look like they're trying to coax people in to buying the Limited Edition reprints after the fact. As much as I know that Jump To Conclusions is my favorite game, I can't help but think that this was purposefully inefficient to either gauge interest for paid DLC for the specialization codes or to increase sales of the Unlimited Edition.

Hang on, there is a daily challenge associated with getting a perfection.

WTF.

Oh man this game keeps on giving.

Totally agreed about the commendations negatively affecting play btw - people are just grinding those bars and its taking away from the base gameplay.

I've asked this before, but apparently no-one answered: I played online using the free xbl card included with the game and did not get a specialization code. Is it because of the free xbl card, or because I am from europe?
Am I fucked?

It'd have to be Europe, one of my buddies got a code and he only ever played Campaign (had to Redbox it and he doesn't have enough space to install multi)

Another one was silver on the trial and got it too. Both US.

Thanks for the clarification. Gave away my LE specialization code to a buddy some time ago because I thought I would get my code anyway.
Yeah, that was pretty retarded.

Thanks a lot Microsoft/343, you guys are really awesome. I just love being fucked over for being in the wrong country.

I might be the only one, but I am drawing the consequences from this bullshit: I will not buy Halo 5 new. Used it is.

Edit: In retrospect, I really regret harboring such a grudge at Bungie for fucking Reach up. Reach was still really fun at times, and at least you didn't get fucked over with a bazillion preorder bonuses and the like. You never know what you had until it's gone. <3 you, Bungle.

Not that its any consolation but your not alone, I think a lot of people outside of America went for the map pack pass and standard edition expecting specialization emails for playing early. All I can say is that the marketing was terrible and a lot of confused information got thrown about.

I want a f**king refund on the season pass, if I knew they would -Yoink!- europe over I wouldn't of bought it.

- Random post on Waypoint.

Pretty stupid that the season pass doesnt just include the specialization code. Bravo 343, great way to alienate your paying fanbase.

Holy shit, 92 pages?

The marketing for this game has degenerated into the most convoluted mess I've ever witnessed.

I really hope they don't make this kind of mistake with Halo 5. I have no intention of getting the LE for that game but I don't want to be in a position two years from now where I am wasting commendations and so on just because I live in the wrong area and 'only' paid 40 quid for the standard edition.

The lack of any substantial feedback from 343 is both understandable and heart-wrenchingly disappointing.

The people on the ground floor doing the work probably have their hands tied. This screams of marketing decisions which are above their head. What can they do? They cant exactly berate the people doing the marketing for them and they probably have no control over changing that plan.

I have to say that I feel for people like Frankie, David Ellis and BS Angel who are the community facing pinata's, but I doubt they had any hand in those decisions.

343/ Microsoft screwed up, but I doubt 343 can come out and say much about it. I feel bad blaming 343 but ultimately they are also responsible. I guess my point is, the public facing people like BS Angel have to live with decisions taken above her head and try and make them sound less shitty.

Yeah, 343 is a real class act. Even if you ignore all the shitty design decisions in the game itself, there's still two dozen more ways they fucked us over.
I'm done with Halo 4. As I have a LE, I'll get all the upcoming shitty maps for free, but I won't bother getting XBL. Same goes for spartan ops: it's "free", but I don't give nearly enough of a shit to get XBL to play it.

The only way I'm coming back is if they give me my specializations code and patch this mess of a game to something fun.

BTW: has Frankie posted here since launch? Did he address any of the complaints?
Man, I really don't get how this game is such a clusterfuck, as there is a team of highly capable people behind it.

So I had a loadout called "Bravo" (in honor of that lovely man) and the DMR doesn't even show up in the list of primairy weapons. Wat.

This shit is infuriating me. So much. I paid $60 for a beta of an incomplete game. A beta of a JiP matchmaking service. A beta of a broken filesharing system. A beta distribution service where Microsoft gets to test how much you beg for something you should be entitled to before it becomes paid DLC down the road.

Why do we have to wait? Why is it always promises about how next time they'll do better?

I refuse to "bet on Bungie" for Destiny, even after Letters told me that Reach wasn't a "main effort."

At this point and from here on out, games have to earn their hype for me.

It's bad when a COD game's campaign is more enjoyable and has a better story line than Halo.

(Halo did have amazing CG cutscenes though).

Are vehicles weaker in this game than they are in reach?

I want to say yes, but I don't have any real evidence. Plasma Pistol and Plasma Grenades off spawn don't help them, but I've yet to actually do well in a vanilla-Warthog or a Ghost that isn't acting as a battering ram. They certainly seem more susceptible to DMR fire even though the physics impulses won't send you careening off of the edge of a map any time soon.

I was in a Banshee last week that was nailed by five separate charged plasma pistol shots and then pelted with anywhere from four to eight grenades. I didn't survive.

But hey, man. Pick up that Operator Specialization to rebreak that broken part of the sandbox and we'll call it even, alright?

Lol, everytime I read this thread I get more and more reasons not to purchase this game. Kind of glad I didn't get it at launch. The specialization thing wouldn't have affected me I don't think but reading everything else is an eye opener. Amazing to me that the screenshot featuring isn't working

I mean I still like the game and all, but goddamn has everything been done to prevent people from playing it.

It's the "bullshit" factor. There's too much shit and not enough ways to counter it, and even the counters are bullshit and can be abused/compounded to make the other bullshit worse.

Dont forget how shitty Reach was. Halo 4 might have a large bucket list of problems but on a gameplay level it never reaches the lows of Reach.
True enough.

Are vehicles weaker in this game than they are in reach?

Perhaps, I think there's just a lot more options to take them out. Especially from spawn.

I got killed while I was in a ghost with an AR.

Anyone wanna do some classic customs? I might not be too good, but it's something to do.

Even though I'm late

(In no particular order)

Headlong
Waterworks
Lockout
Sidewinder
Beaver/Battle Creek
Ivory Tower
Burial Mounds
Relic
Zanzibar

I love the objective maps.

Honorable mentions: Citadel, Standoff, The Pit

This game is kind of like that friend thats fun to hang out with but has that underlying "shady" factor to him, liike there's some ulterior motive going on. I blame microsoft.

I am not having as much as a bad time playing this game as most others are, but I don't see myself playing this for as long as I played 2/3. It really just needs a classic playlist -- no DMR, no loadouts, no ordinance, weapons on map, and set power weapon spawns.

and the option to turn on scope breaking

Fun Fact: The render distance is so low in splitscreen that in the Mantis sections of campaign that you can't actually see what you're shooting at, as the camera is positioned too high to render any of the enemies below. I had to trust my brother and spray.

For the third level's Ghost escape, all the Grunts seem to magically teleport two feet in front of your vehicle.

(That section is also really bad for any co-op given that all the triggers are set by the first player, so doing it with four players was a chore in some spots unless we made sure to group up immediately.)

Most of it wasn't too bad co-op, but I was very aware of things going low-poly in the same room to keep the frame rate steady.

On the other hand, I didn't have any sections like the Tip of the Spear rails section, where you couldn't see the actual fuel rod turrets below you and just had to memorize them.

I'd have loved a combination of the more integrated and bright armor of Halo 4 with some of Reach's designs. Cut down on the chunk and I think it had some of the best armor of the series.*

*Although Mk V, never forget that travesty.

I love the game, but damn I realllllllllllly wish it was completed upon release. The specializations shit should have been completed day one of halo 4's release, spec ops videos should have been on the disc, terminal videos should be on the disc, waypoint (which needs an update on all platforms; Android, xbox, etc..) is horrible to navigate (p.s. Still can't launch waypoint from halo 4 menu).

Microsoft spent so much on this game and this is what happens?

The sound mix in MP needs work. There have been many times where a Ghost or Worthog will slam into my back and I never heard the thing coming. There is either no audio cue or it is lag. I hope they look into this.

What's your audio setup? I can't hear shit out of my TV speakers, but that's sort of to be expected.

Also there's the problem of the energy sword making no noise when activated.
