Because...
Ammo is only an issue if you're doing well with long range combat. It's the only counter to DMRing from a mile away that 343 bothered to implement and I'm glad it's there.

I'm not a big fan of the power weapons disappearing so soon and I wish there was a marker indicating where the power weapons drop when someone dies (which would make dynamic focal points out of anywhere in a match).

You can teleport a power weapon to your very location at least once or twice a match...do you really need an ammo box to hide around while you're playing this game? I can't imagine how much worse some of these maps would play out if the game design promoted more hanging back and waiting for the aggressor than it already does.

If you're having an issue with ammo, use the ammo perk. This is the very concept of having perks in a game. Your allies are dying, dropping two guns at a time. Your enemies are dying, dropping two guns at a time. You started with enough bullets to kill 5 people. Of all the things to complain about...

finally someone who gets dynamic gameplay

Saw this on Bungie.org:

Mid-Season Spartan Ops Hiatus?
Whoa. Not sure if this is accurate or not (nothing's been mentioned at all by 343, that I've seen), but someone on Reddit noticed a paragraph in the Halo 4 Strategy Guide that suggests we won't be seeing any more Spartan Ops eps this month:

In the following five weeks after Halo 4 releases, 343 Industries will release a new episode each week, containing five new missions to challenge. Each mission in an episode is designed to last close to fifteen minutes. The remainder of Season 1 will arrive early in 2013 after a short hiatus, releasing the remaining episodes in Season One.
It's possible that this was the plan when the guide was written, and things have changed... or it's possible that this IS what's happening, and 343 will tell us about it in tonight's Bulletin. Either way, when we know more, we'll let you know. Thanks, CyReN.

Maybe now, we'll get some new environments.

Watching Biggy play Far Cry 3. Anyone who wanted Halo to be more like this game is full of shit (except the editor)...it all looks like complete garbage.

FC3 is a blast to play, but it's nothing like Halo. Story is solid (great acting mostly) and the open world "go do anything" gameplay is fun. Though I'm a big open world fan. :p

Can't speak to multiplayer if that's what you were meaning.

I like how when you queue up to join somebody in Halo 4, under GAMETYPE it says MATCHMAKING. MATCHMAKING is not a gametype. But maybe the hook is there for the proper information and someone just forgot to plug in the proper terms.

The lack of ammo on maps was added as a high-concept form of attrition intended to nerf the power of players using long-range weapons without changing the characteristics of the weapons themselves. I applaud 343 on making such an innovative design decision.

Didn't realize we are getting a new bulletin tonight. Trying not to get my hopes up but I really hope they acknowledge some of the legitimate issues with this game and let us know if there's a plan to fix anything.

I like the new KOTH, where the hill won't move until it's 30 seconds are taken.
It's pretty much exclusively what I play now. They really improved the mode a lot from previous Halos where I would never touch such a mode.

I just want to be able to place a shiver of sharks in my forge map and I don't think that's too much to ask.

I didn't see the praise over anything FC did except the amazing job the editor can do. Just because a game can be good, like a Halo game can be, doesn't mean it has to have such a lousy editor (in which, Halo 4's may be the worst of the bunch).

Also, whoever thought of Longbow's CTF spot should be kicked in the jimmy.

They did improve it a bit, but it's still a secondary skirmish/objective gametype. It was pretty fun in previous Halo's under specific map setups. It obviously shouldn't be played in every small level, where you see it happen for H4.

... Ummm. The editor is pretty much what we're asking for. You seem agitated today. Did Tennessee rehire Captain Orange Pants or something?

why bother nominating it? According to IGN, Halo 4 is better than Bioshock, Red Dead Redemption, Shenmue, Metal Gear Solid 2, Half Life 2, Super Mario Galaxy, Goldeneye 64, Vice City, Halo CE, Mass Effect 2, MGS3, GTAIII. It's equally as good as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, Super Mario 64, and Metroid Prime. In fact there are only about 40 games since the start of the 3d-era that are better than Halo 4.

Should be an easy GOTY victory.

I can never tell if you're being sarcastic or if that's just your writing style and you mean what you say.

If it's the former, pls stop

Kentucky football makes me cry evertim

I miss Rich Brooks. That 2008 season was something special. Dat LSU triple OT game.

Does anyone here actually have Halo 4 as their game of the year?

Mine's Borderlands 2.
I have no idea what I'd consider GOTY as nothing's really struck me in that way. Even Dishonoured while good is a shadow of the games it takes inspiration from.

Maybe I should get into XCOM sooner than later, I've never played the original so my views might not be tainted going into this at least. I also need to start up Dark Souls as I've been procrastinating on that hardcore despite Demon's Souls being my game of the generation. Maybe after I force myself through Twilight Princess.

I think of all the FPS I've played through this year, Perfect Dark Zero might be my favourite of the bunch. Not even shitting. I just went kinda nuts about it a few months back and played a whole lot. I derive a legitimately masochistic pleasure out of it.

I guess my game of the year would have to be Trials Evo. I know that sounds super lame but the games that came out this year (save Halo 4) didn't really fit my play style, nor did I have a ton of time to play. Here's hoping for next year.

Far Cry 3 is my GotY.

Halo 4 is just well.. you know... and ACIII was a complete disappointment. Not all that much left to choose from

Dammit :|

Yeah, it killed me when that environment never showed up.. it was my desktop background for ages and it was definitely my favorite piece of art from the game. Hopefully they do try to tackle something like that next time, because it is insanely huge, alien and beautiful. Hell, even if they could work those aesthetics into a MP map..

-This was recorded on November 20th
-Weekly fixes in War Games
-They read every tweet, and forum posts. Taking lots of feedback
-Can only be fixed once a week after testing has been completed
-Talks about Complex fix. Big, known glitch was just 1 of 6 fixed on that map
-Prioritizes fixes based on how bad they are
-Updates just come to matchmaking maps and therefore need to be downloaded to have changes in customs
-Classic gametypes would need to be "rebuilt" to work with Halo 4 (ex. Race)
-Extraction talk
-Ragnarok & Mantis talk
-Railgun talk
-Why Ragnarok?
-We loved Valhalla
-Built it early, seemed to work well with H4 Sandbox
-"It just stuck"
-Versatile map
-Slightly reduced Ragnarok weighting. Dust Storm, "awwwww".
-Paying attention to classic map requests and are being considered.
-Wanted to focus on getting as many brand new maps at launch
-Definite possibility that we'll see Classic Forge remakes in matchmaking
-Talking about remake release timing and such.
-Talking about needing smaller maps in Infinity Slayer (Kevin Franklin brought it up on his own OMG LOLZ)
-Why no forge maps in MM? Why not Relay?
-Relay & Relay CTF needs some more tweaking but will come at some point. Potentially pretty soon along with other Forge Maps
-What about community maps?
-Checking out Community Cartographer maps.
-Time frame for putting community maps in MM (LOL we've got other shit to fix bro. It's coming though)
-MLG Dallas talk
-Kevin loved it. Had fun watching games, talking to fans, players and coaches
-What feedback did you get from MLG Dallas? (People liked how it felt, guns, movement)
-People asking about main weapon balance. Still watching meta data in matchmaking
-Carbine talk. Very high skill curve. Says it has the fastest kill time if all shots hit. They're keeping an eye on balance and will discuss necessary changes
-Why change the tempo of the game? Why speed it up some?
-Tons of factors that go in to how the tempo changes in the end
-Wanted to increased speed; "it does raise the skill curve" 60 kills to win is a product of increased game tempo
-Why put it as points instead of kills? Why do it like CoD?
-They wanted to recognize efforts made by players that weren't just kills, deaths, assists. Expanded to points system to reward everything from Distraction to capturing a flag
-Why 600 points in Infinity Slayer though bro?
-Keeping consistency with new points system. Kill = 10 points so we make the game score counter reflect that
-SORRY FOR HOLDING YOU FOR SO LONG...PLEASE COME BACK...DON'T BE SCARED
-WE'VE GOT TO GET YOU BACK AT SOME POINT....Kevin Franklin: Silence
-Any chance of seeing an "insane gametype" in matchmaking? Kevin Franklin: Yea those are cool but not for a long time
-Spectator mode? CoD has it bro. TF2 has it bro. We going to see something like that in Halo? Maybe just on LAN?
-Kevin Franklin: We know you guys want it. It's on our list. We can't give a time line because we're not sure if it's going to happen. But yea, it's something that we definitely want to put do.

Last words Kevin: Tweet at me - DMR or BR in SWAT?
More SWAT talk.
Let us know how you feel about Banshee removal from CTF Ragnarok
-Talking about old bulletins about Personal Ordnance drops.

THANKS FOR COMING ON, YOU SURVIVED PODTACULAR. K BYE.

Interesting, some of that sounds decent. I do hope they can prioritize some new and classic gametypes and settings. Getting those out in the wild for players and giving them at least one playlist would be awesome, but they need to realize it will be moot if it comes in too late.

Crimson map pack achievements.

wait wait wait, Spartan Ops is split up and done until next year?

Wtf? This is news to me.

On occasion, I have been partial to the stylings of John Woo:

Thats amazing..

Cool, hopefully some good things will come soon. If they could at least layout a roadmap of fixes and additions that will come with time I think it will help alleviate some frustration.

Cool stuff, they have done great work so far. My only complaint is how washed out the image looks.. I would love to see these episodes in full quality with richer colors.

Ok, it looks different enough from Vortex here despite similarities and it looks like it could be fun. Still, it would be nice to get some different stylings of BTB maps, there are too many that are open and rocky. One complaint I have about the look of it is how sterile and boring the human architecture is.. it literally is not interesting looking at all, it looks like beefed up forge assets.. Its too bad they couldn't give that a little character, make it look run down, have some tarps patching up the walls.. something.

1) Borderlands 2
2) Dishonored
3) Assassin's Creed III
4) Mass Effect 3, not counting the ending
5) Halo 4's campaign

Have yet to play Black Ops II, Hitman, Far Cry 3, X-COM, Telltale's The Walking Dead, Max Payne 3, Darksiders II, or Sleeping Dogs.

Had a bunch of matches today where, even with the ammo-perk, I kept running out of ammo and nothing was around. Great, I had to actually die to stand a fighting chance again.

Well, you didn't *have* to die.

You could push into an enemy area behind some teammates, and then grab a gun off of anyone who dies. Or camp a corner and double-melee or assassinate someone for their gun. It's not ideal, but you got yourself into this mess.

You also could just be more mindful of the fact that you're hanging back and ammo is in short supply. Pick up a stray primary as a secondary weapon. When teammates or nearby enemies die, view that as an opportunity.

I agree that weapons disappear a too quickly, but you can avoid the problem by playing differently. Right now, you can't wait 'til you run out of ammo and then go solve the problem. You have to be mindful of your ammo all the time. Such is Halo 4.

Seriously, weapons/ammo pickups in an arena shooter? Talk about antiquated. I feel like these fools are never gonna adapt.

Did they put this on virtual console?
Naw, I was just trying to be funny. I've been playing it a ton over the past few months, though, and like it more than most the new games I've played this year.

Maybe I should get into XCOM sooner than later, I've never played the original so my views might not be tainted going into this at least.
I just got it yesterday and I really love it so far. I haven't played a game with so much depth and such a high learning curve in a while. Feels like a good ol' classic PC game in that regard. And the fact that your soldiers perma-die makes each encounter really intense.

I could see it taking the number three slot on my GOTY list. Maybe even higher.

Why wouldn't a lot of us have it as GOTY?
Cause it messed up nearly everything I love about the franchise.

Why wouldn't a lot of us have it as GOTY? I think it's fucking amazing and a ton of fun. I try to play every night I can.

My runner up is Diablo 3.

Because a lot of people here don't seem to like it? I'm not knocking your opinion in any way, I was just curious.

Perma Death bothered me in the early Xcoms cause the balance was never right, You faced harder and harder UFO's yet every now and then you lost a leveled, high stat dudebro and had to rebuy a lower leveled marine.

So basically I would start a mission pre-saved and then if I didn't like the results I would be loading up the save and trying again...not exactly good design when you just circumvent it by savestating.

Is it the same in this one?

If they came back after "being down" for a # of matches I think it would be better, you'd only have to fight handicapped for a period of time.

Anyways, I should really finally crack the seal on that game.
