MGS4 in Movie Form

I got to 2 hours and had to take a break. It seems...weirdly serious, but it doesn't include codec convos, which is where it seemed the majority of wackiness was when I played the HD collection.

I also watched a half hour of all the codec convos from Smash Brothers just for fun, since I hadn't played any MGS games when I played Brawl, so I had no interest in Snake. Lost it at Skippy hacking in to the frequency. If only he had told Snake to do a barrel roll.

too bad they didnt put bits of gameplay to link everything.

Interesting, I wouldn't expect any of that to be referenced directly given them not mentioning Guantanamo Bay and changing Camp Delta to Camp Omega, this place sounds like it would be the inspiration though.

A picture from the hospital:

A scene in an RAF hospital. A nurse of the Princess Mary's Royal Air Force Nursing Service stands beside a trolley of equipment. The nurse is in discussion with a doctor.

Props to @maperns, make that guy a GAFfer!

The fact that even the electric sockets match the standards of the country is just crazy. Kojima has done his research.

Hm, not sure that's a match, if it was the trees would be up in the clouds somewhere.

I think it's something more like this, but not exactly.

It's an old picture/painting vs new picture. The building design is the same in the picture and the walls in the painting.

I maybe over-analyzing it... Fucking Kojima! :P

Where are the shadows of the handrails?

Fox engine.

My only complaint about the graphics are: The awful texture dithering, and the polycount. If they could increase the character polycount it would look that much more amazing, but what more could you ask for consoles? The aa method should be fxaa or mlaa on ps3, not that temporal aa crap that turns on and off and leaves ghosting.

The dithering is from semi transparet surfaces only, I think that can be solved with tons of MSAA but you won't be getting that on PS3.

I wonder if FOX was made with next gen in mind. Seems kinda wasteful to dump all this time and money into a new engine when 2013-2014 will bring new consoles.

Saw the trailer, didn't think anything of it, in regards to this MGSV part. Topic is seriously making my brain go huwhaa?

it's a hallucination - while big bosses mind is being tricked to replicate an seemingly real-world, there are one or two other 'mistakes' because big boss is resisting. thats why the graphics have this kind of jaggy look to them because it was intentional by kojima to show that big boss is trying to resist the mind control.

I think it was. Kojima said they spent a lot of time and money on it, so Konami expects it to be an engine to use for this title and a whole bunch of next-gen ones. From what we've seen, I really like what they've been able to do with it so far. I wasn't too crazy about the engine they built for MGS4.

Did you look at the OP? The evidence is overwhelming.

yeah, after seeing the topic here, but saw the trailer yesterday on GB (didn't pay attention to the MGSV part of it there)

Just wondering about that missing arm now, and how that doesn't seem to fit (if it's BB).

Saw a youtube comment talking about it might be Liquid (but Liquid would be missing the right arm instead of the left)

The added MGSV on top of the Title screen is crazy. I'd say it's wishful thinking with just the lines, but then noticing that the logo has little blacked out portions of their letters, that fit with the missing MGSV title (i.e. the N in phantom with the G from Gear), is genius detecting, whoever saw that.

I just grabbed this from the CIA website on Cyprus:
hostilities in 1974 divided the island into two de facto autonomous entities, the internationally recognized Cypriot Government and a Turkish-Cypriot community (north Cyprus); the 1,000-strong UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) has served in Cyprus since 1964 and maintains the buffer zone between north and south; on 1 May 2004, Cyprus entered the European Union still divided, with the EU's body of legislation and standards (acquis communitaire) suspended in the north; Turkey protests Cypriot Government creating hydrocarbon blocks and maritime boundary with Lebanon in March 2007

And from wiki:
With the coup d'état of April 21, 1967, Greece entered a period under the rule of the Colonels' Junta.
On 15 July 1974, the Republic of Cyprus government was overthrown by the Greek Cypriot national guard acting under orders from the Greek junta. The Greek junta installed an EOKA veteran and a member of the Cyprus Parliament, Nikos Sampson as the new president. The attempt to murder president Makarios failed, however, and he fled Cyprus with the help of the British army.

On 20 July 1974, in response to the coup, Turkish troops landed near Kyrenia, forcing a narrow corridor to Nicosia within 2 days, until a ceasefire was negotiated on 22 July. On the second day of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus the Colonels' Junta collapsed. Karamanlis returned from Paris and formed his civilian Government. In Cyprus, Nikos Sampson resigned and Glafkos Clerides took over the presidency as acting president, according to the 1960 Constitution.

In August of the same year, almost a month after the coup had dissolved the three guarantor powers, together with representatives of the two communities, met in Geneva. The Turkish Cypriots under Rauf Denktaş demanded a federal state with 34% of the territory ceded to Turkish Cypriots. Glafkos Klerides - the Greek Cypriot representative - asked for 36 to 48 hours in order to consult with his superiors[who?]. While still in talks, a second Turkish invasion was launched on Cyprus. When a ceasefire was declared, more than 36% of the territory was occupied by Turkish forces. The ceasefire line of 1974 today still separates the two communities and is generally referred to as the Green Line (or the 'Atilla Line'), and also runs through Nicosia, making it the only divided capital in the world.

The Turkish Army and the Greek side conducted a policy of ethnic cleansing consisting of wholesale attacks and massacres of both ethnic populations of the territories that came under their respective control in an attempt to terrorise the other side.[2][3] The wholesale massacres carried by the Turkish army and Turkish Cypriot paramilitary groups against the Greeks of Cyprus spawned a limited number of similar attacks against Turkish civilians in the south by small groups of Greek Cypriot paramilitaries. In the small village of Tochni, all men between the ages of 13 and 74 were found shot (Tochni massacre).[4] Likewise other mass graves were exhumed in the villages of Aloa, Sandalaris and Maratha containing women and children (Maratha, Santalaris and Aloda massacre).[4]

Could tie with the game somehow. Peace Walker took place in 1974, Ground Zeroes is a sequel to Peace Walker. If Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes are the same, the timelines could intersect. Kojima loves injecting Metal Gear history with real life history.

Holy crap, good find with the map. 100% confirmed. I tried to compare it to a few places but never looked there.

So G.Z. trailer is set in the U.S. owned military base on the southern tip of Cuba, and P.P trailer is set in the U.K. owned military base on the southern tip of Cyprus. Hmmmmm

That painting could be of one of the many ruins in Cyprus but I don't think it's important.

Its significance is in placing the hospital/setting. If it is indeed of Cyprus then it definitely was useful to investigate.

Good on maperns, I would have never figured it out.

You know how the bandaged soldier sounds like Kiefer Sutherland? You know how Kiefer Sutherland is Jack Bauer? You know what a massive plot device was in the second season of 24?

The Cyprus Recording.

...it all makes sense now.

Hilarious :D

I really hope that Kiefer-guy is really Kiefer and that he plays a major character. Nobody sounds like Kiefer Sutherland so Im practically convinced that it is him.

"hostilities in 1974 divided the island into two"

Flashes of "East and West" from MGS3 appear in my mind when I hear the words divided into two...

Let me read the rest of your post now! :)

It makes the most sense that "Zeroes" and "Pain" are one game. It also makes the most sense, to me, that "Pain" is taking place before "Zeroes." Neither "Pain" nor "Zeroes" is the eventual title of the new game.

Yeah, it makes the most sense to me too that this was all just a teaser for the same project that Ground Zeroes belongs to. It's just too crazy (but then again, it's KojiPro) to think they're making two games, now, both for current gen consoles.

But I am trying to humor Keighley's statement that Phantom Pain "is a completely game [sic?], nothing that has been shown before." So, two possibilities in my head. First, these two clips represented different modes of the final game, maybe one was single-player and one was multiplayer (except neither trailer was screamed "multitplayer", even in co-op.)

Second possibility, these project are all part of something that might collectively be called "Metal Gear Solid V": episodic adventures. Mini-sodes. Little test projects to put Fox Engine through its paces on current-gen platforms in a familiar universe. All the little gaps that Kojima couldn't fill in a normal game, these episodes delve into them. EDIT: And maybe these episodes would be done by different teams across the globe, some by Kojima's team and some by the new American studio as it's starting up, maybe even some by a company that really did start in Sweden (because otherwise... it's kind of a racist joke, even if it is on-white racism, to just say that 'Kojima' misspelled looks funny and swedish,) all working together with a common engine and asset set. Thus a single project that tests the new engine, the new staff, and the new international workflow that might be needed in order to be productive in next-gen development, and in the process it yields a profitable product based on a proven IP.

Maybe these episodes would all be prelude to a complete MGS5 project, or maybe the collective episodes would really constitute the fifth (sixth?) sequel in the series? (It'd be unusual for it to be a numbered canon release, plus the download size would be a bitch, but hey, Walking Dead just won GOTY...)

Best way I can rationalise it being the same game if it's a hidden final chapter. I'm thinking they will keep up this Moby Dick pretense until it's out or else I don't see the point.

no i think its part of the main game, not final chapter. and definitely not a separate game either. doesn't make sense from a marketing perspective at all for it to be a game that releases after ground zeroes.
