I'm happy they've finally made the transition to 3D, but sticking to the grid overworld movement, the flat environments, and the more static clunky-style of Stadium/Colosseum battle animations is still going to date the game.

The console Pokemon entries have had those kinds of animations around for a long time. Until something better comes along, that's how most people are going to expect Pokemon battles to look like. So, in terms of how dated it is, it's going to be a long time before really dynamic battles exist.

I'm definitely excited for this. Yeah the environment looks very...pixelated but hey at least it's a big step forward. I'm surprised they went with this look considering the over 500 pokemon models that were made for Pokedex3D are now going to go to waste....unless you really want to buy the $15 pokedex.

I'm concerned the amount of text in this game will be compromised in order to localize all versions by October. I know pokemon games aren't known for their engaging story lines, but they were getting better with B&W. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

no, and people really shouldn't expect these games to look a ton better. this is close to how it's going to look, Game Freak are not really that great with 3D. their strength is the art.

agreed, i felt this way with black 2 as well - sprites are nice but even so, it's obviously not a priority for the fanbase either.
which im fine with, it feels old school RPG mentality for me anyway

Pokemon really doesn't need 60FPS. It would be better looking good 30 then looking like a 10 year old game at 60.

It would speed up battle animations, which adds up in the long run.

I care more about the framerate, which I'm sure they are going to polish. At least they still have a lot of time to do it.

I think it's easy to conceive of the FPS getting optimized, but yeah there's probably not much else that's going to change.

Exactly, and this has always been the case.

If it's a locked 30fps framerate even in battles I'll forgive the graphics somewhat, though. GF has to know how important smoothness is to the series (although, they released Diamond and Pearl as they were so who knows.)

Best case would be 60fps of course, other 3DS games have had that and better graphics than this, but, baby steps.

They wouldn't need to significantly improve them for the game to look much better. Framerate optimization would work within three quarters of a year or so.
