Winter of Anime 2013 |OT -6| How much lower can we go?!

DBZ movie 12 Fusion Reborn

Always wanted to see more of Gogeta, Janemba was a cool villain but he wasn't even introduced and all of a sudden they're fighting him. Its been too long since I watched the show but it was nice to see Vegeta being nice to Goku at the end, he even called him a friend!

7/10

It's still a nuisance when a disproportionate amount of conversation is on something totally irrelevant to most people in the thread! I can be objective and understand that. I just never expected so many people to decide to watch the same stuff concurrently.

Considering how wide the scope of this thread is, that's inevitable no matter what the discussion is about.
And getting many people to watch something good, is a good thing.

Okay, so you kill Lockon. Then you replace him with an identical Lockon who is different from him in literally no way at all. AT ALL. And then you bring back to life the one guy Lockon died trying to kill.

WHY THE HELL DID YOU KILL LOCKON AT ALL!? It's like even the writers regretted their decision. If
Mu's death being undone in Destiny is bad,
this is a hundred million thousand times worse.

At least Saji got slapped like the bitch he's been for 31 episodes.

And we will never know why they had to kill Lockon, maybe because he was the best character and he was making Setsuna look bad I dont know, but even if they are identical Lockoff is not as good as Lockon.

So the final battle with Dark King in the final episode is set. Which is good. I'm ready to end this series and move on to other things.

If you ever get the chance to give Twilight the MST3K treatment with friends or family, do so. That's how I saw the film and I loved it.

I actually saw the first three Twilight movies while I was on my mission. It's a long and odd story.

And we will never know why they had to kill Lockon, maybe because he was the best character and he was making Setsuna look bad I dont know, but even if they are identical Lockoff is not as good as Lockon.

Yeah, I don't like Lockoff when I remember he's not Lockon because I just kinda sit there and shout YOU'RE NOT LOCKON in my head. But when I pretend that Gundam 00 is about Lockon, Haro, and Soma, and consciously remove all other scenes from my head, it doesn't seem so bad.

Also Mr. Bushido is a huge baby.

"Mr. Bushido, do you want to fight da big bad Gundam?"
"No."
"Mr. Bushido, do you want a nappy?"
"No."

SPOILERS MAN

You should be glad. 00 is bad and having it spoiled prevents you from watching it. It's a public service.

Good god, this thread is going to be all Precure
(there is nothing specifically wrong with Precure)
and MLP soon, isn't it?

;_;

We're entering Spring with quite a few shows that people are looking forward to, I don't see this Precure Pony apocalypse happening anytime soon.

Maybe next Winter when Guilty Crown 2 is the only good show airing.

That sounds hilarious. Imagine Bella's stilted acting with a dub actress trying to match the lips.

There are, apparently, two different dub actresses who've voiced Bella in Japanese - Sayaka Kinoshita and Mirei Kiratani (one actress on DVD, the other for a TV broadcast). Unfortunately, I can't find any videos with the dub track on :(

Well I guess the fact that I tuned out of the story due to the SUDDEN FLASHBACKS, I really didn't put much effort in following what was going on. Lots of flashy colors, a little low on the action though. I mean I guess it ended, but it was mostly stuff happening to characters I have no real investment towards.

I was pretty disappointed with this show. It didn't have enough superhumans out-thinking the normals in a grand show of brilliance and instead just meandered around plot points.

The show's OP and multiple EDs were pretty great though. So if anything the show introduced me to eyelis, so it wasn't a complete waste of time.

RIP duckroll.

Wow...
That defies description

Sorry, busy laughing at the eurozone.

Whats going on in the eurozone now?

I feel I should bring back Kirinopony given MLP and Oreimo will rule this coming season. Maybe when lewd avatar month ends.

Forget Kirinopony. Is anyone MAN ENOUGH to wear an homage to POHANA?

Good god, this thread is going to be all Precure

An all Precure thread would be incredible. This thread was heavily Precure flavored.

I've really been a bad influence and I promise to keep a much lower profile next season.

Do the opposite! Make a Precure all encompassing thread for us!
I would do it but I lack the skills to make an impressive opening post.

As somebody who likes magical girls or as somebody who hurts himself?

Isn't that 95% of Animegaf?

Let's not forget about the return of Kuroneko.

Who could forget such a momentous occasion?

People will find a way to bring waifu talks back.

There will always be waifus. Otaku are a finicky bunch!

Actually its my favourite Gundam show.

O.O

Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory 11

This is the longest, most boring Colony Drop of all time. Freaking colonies will crash and destroy the Lunar City, and Ko is busy two timing on Nina Purpleton and stuff.

And could this woman be any more stereotypically villainous? "Either you'll die, or fwuahahahaha."

Regulus did forever ago.

Cima? If so, the problem there is her backstory is relegated to an audio drama. She has some good motivation but it's completely absent in the show itself. The little Mayfly of Space gives a little glimpse into this.

Samurai Champloo - 8

This show is so funny sometimes. A poseur samurai hunting after dead legends, with his own beatbox bard following after him. Amazing.

Futari wa Pretty Cure 49 - End

So Porun had this magical power inside of him this whole time that gave them the power to beat Dark King. It just had to awaken, and it did when he went to ask the queen to help him help them. So...eh. After the last few episodes I could go without hearing "We won't give up! We have to give it our best!" for a while.

Really stupid thing at the end. Mipple and Mepple could have gone back to the Field of Light, but they choose to stay on the Field of Rainbows instead. Which really just causes them to die. Maybe they hate themselves as much as I hate them. If I were Nagisa or Honoka I'd probably tell them that I'd rather see them go back to the Field of Light than see them die. Could have been an emotional scene if their deaths weren't so stupid and pointless, and if they didn't suck so much that I wanted them to die to begin with.

So...that's that I guess. I had fun, but I was ready to move on. Fun show that I had issues with. Maybe a C+ or a C if I had to give it a grade.

I dunno her name. She sits on a tigerskin throne at random sometimes. I've kinda given up on expecting anything from this show.

Aren't they already? The designs always seemed kind of sexualised to me. It really creeped me out.
I don't even understand how one comes to this conclusion. I admit that I have almost no exposure to MLP (I've only seen two or three key images posted in unrelated places), but... how?!

As I believe I've mentioned before, I feel that that's the ideal hypothetical model for a podcast that will probably never happen. Other models, such as working around themes or being free form would probably lead to a chaotic discussion.

The biggest problem with that concept (leaving aside all the normal difficulties with doing a podcast) is that everyone on the show would be required to go watch a series or something, which takes quite a bit of their free time up. The only alternative is to discuss currently airing titles but doesn't everyone do that enough anyway?

It's why movie podcasts work much better, really.

Yes, but who will expose themselves here? lol

Should have watched Heartcatch.

But in all honesty you should watch Penguindrum first.

Really solid conclusion to an excellent series that I guess worked well as a standalone spinoff to a series Id never read or watch. Most the characters I assume are the antagonists over there were kind of annoying in this one or just did not much of nothing. Anyway for this episode fun and good conclusion that went way better than expected.
Totally thought they'd off Andy Hinomiya somehow since he seems anime original. But well having him be the best speechmaker and really work to save Hyobu was a really great and intense scene and got teary eyed, as I thought it would be a sacrificial move. But thankgoodness Scene with Fujiro Yo was memorable there being unable to say his true feelings.

For Crunchyroll, that seemed odd to sub the insert song (Yugiri?) but not the OP/ED...

9/10, easily the 4th best anime of the Winter. Would definitely get if it were licensed for disc release here in America.

"How do I hold all these feels?" is pretty much how the show goes. It just doesn't stop giving. Although, the clairvoyant I think is the biggest BS aspect of the series so far, but maybe I can forgive that if there's a good reason for it all in the end.

Been also going through the first season of Hidamari Sketch. The extra episodes to go, and then onto the next season, when I get a hold of it! Miyako is a miracle of the universe; so adorable.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes - 25: The Day Before the Fateful Event

~ There is no room for a "Number 2". ~

Kircheis is back into the picture! And he immediately sets things straight with Reinhard. A classic disagreement in war theory: are innocent sacrifices worth it if they may prevent greater harm in the future?
I'm beginning to think Oberstein is trying to replace Kircheis in the hierarchy. Never liked the sniveling bastard. I hope Reinhard makes the right choice. For some reason, I don't think the other Admirals mind Kircheis much. They have never shown to do so, anyway.
Something I haven't mentioned before is Reuenthal and Mittermeyer's friendship. I feel it adds a human dimension to the Imperial High Admiralty. You need those military bro's.
Seems Prince Lichtenlade is our next enemy!

I don't know if too much Ikuhara in too little time is good for the brain and the soul. For now I have Princess Tutu. Maybe some other stuff. I'll figure it out.

You're following up Ikuhara with a show at least partly written by Chiaki J Konaka. You don't have a hope in hell of having a "break" for your brain or your soul :p

While I had good fun reading everyone's final impressions on SSY, I didn't really have much to say that hadn't already been said. However, I loved the series enough that I did want to do something, so I decided to go back and re-experience one of my favorite episodes: More than the Darkness. Ironically, I would say that, despite loving the typical tone of the series, episode 10 has a completely different feel and flow than just about any other. It's definitely a better Yamauchi showing than the infamous 5th episode; this is probably due in-part to the scope of the episode being reduced to a single environment and two people conversing. We're able to take in the unique brand of framing and composition without wondering what the hell is actually going on.

In the beginning of episode 10, we find Saki completely at a loss with her current situation.
We've hit a two year time jump
and everything had seemed kosher until we're met with
Shun's peculiar disappearance.
Still a bit love struck and confused with events past, she begins to search in a bewildered daze. While the actual events unfolding here are suitably profound in the story, the real showing is the imagery accompanying it.

The actual location where the episode takes place doesn't seem tangible. There's not a smooth transition of
Shun leading Saki
to this twisted and deformed house. Instead, it almost feels like a bizarre, otherworldly location perhaps concocted in-part by
Shun's cantus leakage.
And since the focus of this episode and the revelations within deal with
Shun's subconscious taking over and controlling him
, the strange surroundings and morphed imagery are a supplement to that. It really gives you a feeling of the immense power and destructive nature a karmic demon could have at his disposal which, of course, helps us to better be in anticipation of things to come as well as [end of series spoilers]
Maria and Momoru's child's apocalyptic powers.
I really felt like there was a tremendous emotional milestone here and I'm glad it was handled the way it was. It was the final signal, even after a long break in incidents, that things are changing and can't be undone.

Atmosphere aside, this was ultimately an episode of exposition. It could have very well been handled with a series of flashbacks with a voice over, but instead I thought it was made wholly unique with a palpable tension and a looming atmosphere.

I do think there was an important revelation here that could have been easily glossed over on a single viewing as well.
The spirtiual barriers that exist are not to protect them from the things outside, but rather to purify the things within. Every cantus user "leaks" from their subconcious and these spiritual barriers sends it to the outside. This is why the things like the Minoshiro and the mutated organisms exist in the first place. It's more or less the equivalent of dumping chemical waste into a lake and having it mutate the fish inside.
Kinda neat point that I brushed over.

So in short: Shin Sekai Yori is available (nearly) in full on Crunchyroll. Go watch it!

Princess Tutu is almost giving me an Ikuhara Light feeling, if that makes any sense. I've been able to handle it so far, but...Utena was able to ratchet it up to eleven on everything, so this show might too.

This weekend might be a break from all anime for me though, cause it's Bioshock Infinite time.

Maybe I've just seen too much terrible fanart and can't separate it but I'm pretty sure I always found the designs creepy. I don't know any more.
Creepy? MLP anthropomorphizes by cartoon lack-of-detail. Their limbs and bodies are less defined so they're able to do more, and their faces are stylized to be cartoony while still somewhat resembling the basic head shape.

That said, their eye to head ratio is larger than Key.
