Silly question I'm sure but how do you parry? Unless it's not available yet to me. I know how to parry projectiles with Osiris but that's it. Unless that's actually all you can parry.

I'm not sure, I usually do a demon/angle dodge. But it is possible, I know I've done it with the fists, while a monster was a attacking with a red attack.

Just time your attack to clash with their attack. Just use Pop in the direction of the enemy's attack, it's not that hard at all.

Just finished Vergil's Downfall. It was awesome outside of the last mission and the fact that
you don't get to fight Dante
.

They showed off more of the older concepts for Dante at GDC.

Strangely, the one on the left of this image seems weirder for me, in the context of being Dante, than any of the other concepts:

You know, people saying stuff like “Donte May Cry“ do a really good job of making themselves seem so childish. Really now, “Donte“? What is this, Gamefaqs?

So did anybody see this gem they had at GDC?

Really now? They are still shitting on Uncle Dante's design?

Edit- I just noticed, they edited his left leg to be behind the cowboys. So they literally photoshopped Dante to be straddling the guy on the left (Jake Gyllenhal?). You so edgy Ninja Theory.

I was at this panel. This slide was meant as a joke in relation to Capcom saying they should imagine DMC as a western movie. The slide after this one showed Dante with Tyler Durden from Fight Club.

So relax. You're making something out of nothing.

That's still an image that's going to get a rise out of a lot of people given the shitting Ninja Theory did to Dante in the past, and in general was pretty poor taste. I don't think Brokeback Mountain was selected just because it has cowboys in it.

If that's how you feel, then fine. Though everyone in attendance got a good laugh out of it. There clearly wasn't any negative intentions in mind for this pic.

Meh, whatevs. I just don't think it's coincidental that they put the Dante more people preferred into a picture featuring two gay cowboys especially after the game had already tanked, just as a simple joke. That's an awful lot of white-knighting for me to swallow at once.

Plus, in general, a Brokeback Mountain joke? Didn't those stop being cute seven years ago?

In regards to the concept art they showed I have to say that the Dante we got in the final game is the best option. Some of those concepts they showed were god awful.

Just let it go, seriously. Cause NT did. Antonaides and a few other NT devs were there and they seemed to be in great spirits, they even said they had a ton of fun making it despite all the backlash.

Honestly, they can't even make jokes about anything with people jumping down their throats.

Then don't make jokes that are in poor taste and stopped being socially relevant over half a decade ago. Considering the push for more political correctness and overall acceptance that's going on in gaming now, making an "lol gay cowboys joke" is just stupid and a bit poorly timed.

I don't get the joke... obviously any video game character would look odd in live action movie (especially when you just photoshop the render onto a movie scene). Like what's the point of Dante in full Gilgamesh armor right next to Tyler in Fight Club?

I still can't get over Jason Statham Dante.

The first picture is Dante shopped into a scene from Brokeback Mountain, a movie about two gay cowboys in love with each other. The joke is Dante is gay too. Cuz we all know when you think westerns the first thing you think of is Brokeback Mountain and not any Clint Eastwood or John Wayne movie (hell I would have even settled for Back to the Future 3). It's a joke with poor taste, given current events, that stopped being relevant back when DMC3 was the newest entry in the franchise.

I still wake up some days... dreaming that T-Rex Vergil was real...

It would have been more original and interesting than the real ending we got.

If they made Dante out to be gay... why use him in the Fight Club pic? I mean I would've bought it if they used him in both gay movies.

I guess they wanted a Western with young good looking dudes and BB popped up in their mind. Just like they thought of a good looking actor like Brad Pitt and put Dante next to him in one of his most iconic movies.

They have had their say on the character and it wasn't compelling. They can joke about old Dante all they want but what they produced wasn't really an upgrade... just different for the sake of being different. I guess that's why I don't really care much anymore, I guess my stance would've been different if they released this image before releasing DmC's release. I can't be bothered being offended by NT's antics anymore.

Yeah, a lot of people did. They got the joke because they knew the context it was in.

Here's an article explaining what happened at the panel.
http://www.destructoid.com/ninja-theory-talks-reboot-and-shows-off-unseen-dante-art-249946.phtml

Some details from the article

In terms of actual environments, Ninja Theory originally had different plans in mind. When researching the previous games, they noticed that environments were always lifeless and made Dante look relatively small in comparison

Yes, DmC took more creative approaches to the environment than previous games, but saying that the environment in OG DMC was always lifeless? There's little to support that. Even DMC4 had great colors and lighting despite its shortcoming in designs. It still baffles me to this day to see how NT can look at the same games and come away with complete different assessments on characters and gameplay. The more they talk, even after all those years, the more I don't understand why they are attached to this franchise.

And also

Their original plan was to incorporate crowds of NPC characters to populate the demonic environments, a la Assassin's Creed. While they didn't elaborate on what they proposed to do with them exactly, they did say Capcom producers quickly shot down the idea in fear of it sucking up too many resources.

Would be interesting to at least to see a concept demo. But how would this have worked for a DMC type game even if they were already ready to made the game at 30 fps?

Im sure they meant lifeless as in the places never seem like they saw any life. The worlds in Kingdom Hearts are very colorful, but also extremely lifeless. DmC fixed that. They environments just felt alive.

Just finished the game. Definitely some of the most creative environments I’ve seen in a video game, and the art direction as a whole managed to be over-the-top and vibrant without becoming cheesy.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what Ninja Theory can do with next-gen hardware.

BeautifulMemory: lifeless does not translate to bland. I have the same feeling about all DMC backgrounds: lifeless. Static, completely and utterly Resident Evil-like. A remnant from a previous decade.

I did not have a PROBLEM with it, as I loved the original Resident Evil games, but it certainly is a trait of them. It would surely feel weird if Capcom goes back to DMC5 and incorporates nothing from DmC's innovations in this regard.

Hey V-Arnod, I appreciate your response - I think like many things this is just where we agree to disagree.

DmC's environment is definitely more dynamic - but as for previous games, and this comes down to taste, I don't find the OG DMC to be bland at all, especially DMC1. I also have a problem with it because it seems like that's used as an argument against the OG DMC when it's bound by technical limitations of the PS2 and as well as trying to make console games running at 60 fps.

And you are right some incorporation will be needed. But if the next game tries to go back to 60fps, I wonder which areas might be sacrificed, even with the new gen coming out.

At this point I will not accept a next gen DMC game running below 60FPS on consoles. BF4 looks visually stunning and runs at 60FPS. DMC5 with that level of visual fidelity is what is expected.

Will there even be a DmC 2 though? Sales were kinda bad... I'd say DMC5 would be more likely. Or maybe the series is done. I hope not though, I want a DmC 2 personally.

Honestly, I don't think that Ninja Theory has the right to joke about character design. Out of all the characters in all the games they've made, Vergil is the only palatable one and they still fucked up his characterization.

Let me guess. For the Fight Club mock-up, they had their DmC Dante rendition because it looks so much "grittier" and "modern".

My gut tells me DmC2 will be a thing, just because Capcom has their heads that far in the dirt. My head tells me DmC2 wont happen though given how bad sales were and how general discussion around it is mixed.

I actually really liked that concept.

The one with Jason Statham with a white faux hawk?

All of those concepts make me raise my point about Ninja Theory's seeming lack of originality overall with this game. Far left image is just Jason Statham, middle image is Knives from Trigun, third image is decently original and I kind of like it but I get the pull that I've seen that from somewhere before (someone please point it out if you see it too). Another one of those concept arts just has Dante standing there with the Health Ledger Joker red smile. It's kind of sad that the most original of that lot (in my opinion) is the one from the reveal trailer - which was still pretty much a self insert of Tameem.

I guess I just want to know if someone left Ninja Theory before this game that was apparently important. Because I liked a lot of their work with Heavenly Sword and Enslaved art/design wise, but it just seems like an important part of their design team was missing with this game.
