Finally listened to the album in its entirety.

As a longtime Ye stan since 2003's Rocafella Dream Team and "We Are the Champions", and lover of all albums (even 808) I absolutely hate this album. His lyrics are so bad, and the beats go over my head.

MBDTF was the apex, a combination of art and hip-hop in all of its gaudy over-produced goodness.

But when I listen to Yezus, I have a mental image of rap snobs wandering streets of Paris wearing tight yellow corduroys, green and hot pink plaid shits, holding a boombox covered in fur blasting this album only because they're told the music is trendy... not because its actually good, sonically.

Bound 2 is excellent though. The rest, no. And I love Daft Punk so I'm very distraught at the moment.

My ears don't care whether music is 'trendy'. That was a ridiculous statement you wrote.

So I've made yet another remix... This one isn't as extreme as the first one, that I posted here.

Check it out: https://soundcloud.com/sabbz22/black-skinhead-us-itunes-with
It's the iTunes US version, so the mastering is better as are the chorus screams, but I've:

- Added the screams at the start, matching the movie trailer/SNL version
- Added Kanye's voice back to the first line of the song (it was removed in the US iTunes version, and I preferred it being there)
- Added a riser (rising frequency) behind the second half of the build up, which was also in movie trailer/SNL version.

I'm actually really happy with this version.

(if you don't like the riser, you can see on my Soundcloud page that there's a version without)
(also note that there's a small click after the second scream when previewed, but it's NOT there when downloaded)

So, misogynistic, dumbshit lyrics aside (Kanye, give DOOM a call), the album's pretty great. The production is some progressive genius.

You're imagining fictional people who enjoy the album and critiquing them?

Didn't know there was a mixtape up for the samples already. Was hoping for it as there's a ton of songs sampled I wanted to look up

You paint others as rap snobs, but i would look into the mirror before throwing around accusations.

After some repeated listens I've come to the conclusion that Hold My Liquor is the only bad track on this, mostly due to Chief Keef's vocals. Sorry, I just can't take a auto tunes 17 year old singing about the dangers of alcohol serious. He's a 17 year old black rapper from Chicago, don't give me that shit about 'your bitches' not being able to handle you and you not being able to handle your liquor. You're not even legally allowed to drink alcohol.

I agree. I like the song but a 17 year old singing about alcohol is pretty lame.

Keef has probably consumed more drugs and alcohol than both of you combined.

Is this album supposed to be trendy? That's now what I am getting from this release at all.

Kanye has always had a great ear for music, as I love the minimalistic approach to many of the songs, and yes it does sound different, but he has always been at his best when his music is darker and has a raw edge. To be honest I always felt the "soul" stuff he did came across as trendy, this is just yay doing yay.

the amazon and itunes versions are the same, right?

and who's the guy doing the dancehall singing/rapping? love that shit. I'm In It -> Blood on the Leaves makes me want to blast it with the windows down not giving a shit I'm some hipster ass white dude

The yeezus album is so polarizing. I feel like this was done on purpose or inline with his expectations of the album given its fuck everything theme. MBDTF was an album made for the people, the critics, and the awards. ironically, it delved into the deepest recesses of his public and personal being. Yeezus is a personal affair as well, although this time it's a no bars held album made really for himself. It's selfish, simple, dark, brash, and a statement that in this point of his life Kanye is going to do whatever he wants to do for him. Its a story no one wants to hear and to me that makes it much more sincere than Dark fantasy. This album is pure energy and emotion. 808s 2.0 is an apt description and that album was even more minimalist than this one. Its may not be coincidence that I am A God and amazing are both the third tracks on these albums. It makes sense when you think about it. Hip-hop heads aren't going to like it. Most fans aren't going to like it. The lyrics are simple and vulgar but they get your attention. They sound like some shit I would say to my friends to be funny. I believe Kanye is very aware of this. If the last few lines of bound 2 are anything to go by, he knows he has a part to play and he plays it well.

While I hate trying to compare kanye albums I think this is the most similar to 808s with less singing. Raw emotion in both albums.

MBDTF was less about emotion and mor about an artistic direction.

Yeezus is raw. I love it raw.

I think it's more like 808s is the first person perspective of himself, Fantasy is the second person perspective, this is the third, the public's view.

I have no doubts about that, but that's beside my point. The song is about alcohol abuse and the results of it and I think someone like Keef is way too young and too inexperienced to bring a message like that truthfully, especially since his album contains such gems as "Hate Bein' Sober" and "I Don't Like It". Kanye should have jut hired a guest who can sing lyrics like that without sounding like a tool, someone like Kendrick Lamar (to be honest, I'm kinda shocked that he's nowhere to be found on this album). Bringing Keef in to guest on a song like this is like having Lil Wayne do a guest verse on a song about women's rights.

After a fun time with WD40, I can confirm that the FBI/credits stickers on the back really hard to get off.

The digital releases are a mess. Supposedly the NZ iTunes version isn't the same as the US version (it's missing some of the mixing tweaks). And the physical version is still the worst version of the album. I love Kanye, but this shit is silly. I don't even know if the Amazon/Def Jam one is the same as the iTunes US.

It is. Buy the amazon physical and you'll get the updated digital tracks for free.

To me, the album feels like a mixing pot of Ye's whole career: I see some elements of CD (Bound 2), the militant lyrics in New Slaves reminded me of Crack Music from LR, sonically I see callbacks to equally to Graduation and 808s (songs like Stronger/Welcome to Heartbreak seem like precursors to this sound) and it shares the multi-layered production of MBDTF.

Whereas with MBDTF, I felt things were TOO overproduced and left me liking the songs but feeling they were still a little too busy, on Yeezus, everything is refined and just sorta syncs up. Blood on the Leaves is great because it's too main components are so different and its easy to see how that could've been a chaotic mess, but it ends up working so well.

Cool, thanks for letting me know. Even though I already have the iTunes US version, I always support Kanye. Was trying to figure out the best way to pay for this. Might as well just do the Amazon deal then (was just going to buy the US iTunes version).

I've been listening to CD/LR for the past few days and man, I really miss this Kanye. I understand an artist has to grow and if he had made 6 albums like CD/LR we'd probably get sick of him...but shit his rapping has really fallen.

Also, I like Yeezus. More of the production than anything else.

I dont get the love for Blood on the Leaves though...

You can't deny how haunting that voice is man, looped piano brings it home

The guy has probably been drinking since he was 12, man.

If you don't like how it sounds, that's fine, that's your opinion and I respect that, but to try and discredit him because he lacks credibility when 1) 90% of music is art and not real life, and 2) he does have the credibility, seems a bit odd.

uh...you do know that song isn't meant to be positive or have a message right? Keef fits perfectly. I don't think you even understand why Ye fucks w/ Keef.
