Ohhhhh Shu... and he didn't play bad.

weeeelllllll. I think he shot railings almost as much as he shot people :) And the other players were obviously not shooting at him.

Fair enough for a press conference demo but let’s not kid ourselves.

Disappointed that Kaz never showed up at none of these conferences. Would have been great to see him pop up and make the release date announcement.
OT:
Hope we get some more in depth vids on the UI later in the week.

I would assume that what appears on the menu bar is a history of what you done from left to right. Every time you launch a game or app, it goes to the head of the list on the left (after the PSN icon). The down arrow on the far right of the list is probably to access a full list of all other games and apps you have installed.

Seems straight forward.
This is what I'm thinking too actually. I'm just hoping for a confirmation, or better yet, a full in-detailed UI walkthrough video.

That's nice as hell. Finally getting to see it in action is cool. Really looks slick and quick. Then no ads make it all the better.

I like it. It still has the elegance of XMB, but looks functional and much more user friendly unlike PS3 XMB.

Wow -- it looks like the current PlayStation Store somehow integrated with the XMB. You pull up the game on the dashboard and you see trailers, videos, live streams, etc. It also appears to be seamless and it's almost like what they had in mind with the current PS Store.

I'm actually excited for the PS4 but still cautious. I want to hear how much of that is dependent on PS+ and how much of it is not. In other words, do I need to be a PS+ member for some of those features to be operational?

I'm really interested in seeing the next gen console UI demoed in full. It was nice to see a sampling of the PS4 today. I'm hoping the menus move a little quicker come launch day though.

Edit: seeing that 60fps video made it look a lot smoother.

It looked absolutely beautiful. Very snappy and quick. Not very cluttered and really good looking. Very impressed. Awesome way to start the show too!

I remember back around E3 (or was when they announced the PS4, anyway) time I made a post mentioning that Sony should open the show with the U.I and then booting into a live demo of Killzone. They totally did it!

DId anyone else notice that he was typing using his finger on the touch pad. Thats gong to be so much easier to use than the d-pad. Big help I would say.

bish gets all the credit :)
Disappointed at what looks to be no Steam style list of all available games to download. Hopefully I'm wrong.

helped a brotha out on multiple separate occasions!

danhese007 said in another thread that there's a separate library view. My guess is it would be under the PS Store icon in the top bar.

This is the main UI which shows your most recently played games, the games library UI is different from this.

They showed it at Develope behind closed doors developers session.

Very nice. He jumped from OS to MP game in 6 seconds without any logos or stuff that would slow us down.

Yeah that was amazing. I hope every single game supports instant joining like that.

i didnt even know yosp was the one handling the demo because of that crappy wide camera angle the whole time

Yeah, whoever was handling the camera and feed during the gameplay and trailers was awful. It was really obnoxious how they kept cutting back to the audience shots in the middle of the damn trailers.

y'all should be ashamed

It's confirmed that the streaming features (both watching and making a stream) are not behind a pay wall. The Join feature is, of course.

Seems like Sony does it again. People wanted to see the UI, so Sony shows us UI and in a way, that gamers would realistically use it. Seemed alot more natural than the MS UI presentation of dudes watching Price is Right and skyping to talk about sports.

A direct feed of the UI footage would of been nice

I'm gonna miss the PS3 menu, it gets a lot of hate and I honest to god never really understood why. The horizontal / vertical menus are so easy to navigate.

This new UI looks a little bit more cluttered but it still looks pretty slick.

Okay, after seeing this video, I retract some of the negativity I had about the PS4 UI. (What the hell was the Gamescom cameraman and director thinking?)

This looks very good overall. My only niggles are a few instances of minor rough transitions while navigating from game to game...so some further optimization is needed. And I'm not crazy about the on-screen keyboard interface. And although we can change the background to whatever we want (I know I will)...Sony should still rethink their choice of default background. Many users (especially casuals) won't bother to change the background. I love blue but it's too "strong" here...a darker blue would be a lot better and easier on people's eyes.

The jump from OS to MP game in six seconds was very neat, but I'm going to retain some skepticism about that for now. Like others said the environment may have been tightly controlled. I want to see what the jump time is for a typical end user connected via ethernet as well as via wireless-N (too bad it doesn't support wireless-AC).

PSN as a whole is linked to the UI. The game UI is called Live Tiles because they are dynamic akin to Windows 8 Live tile. They can show realtime game scores and infos as they happen in game, shared videos, screenshots and other things related to that specific game. The tiles are created using HTML5 and CSS/Javascript and they can feature animations and audio, each developer has to create one for their game like PS Vita Live Area. You can launch a specific event in game from the live tile just like how you can join multiplayer games from friends profile or from streaming games without having to boot the game and going through in game UI.

Pretty seamless transition from watching a live stream to actually joining the game he was watching. Amazing.

And some people was actually worried about the UI and the performance. Base on that live video, you guys can stop now. that was fucking impressive. And the BEST PART....NO FUCKING ADS.
