DEEP DOWN - PS4 Exclusive, Random Dungeons+Monsters, Online Only play @ TGS

Unlike the original reveal trailer, this now looks like what I can imagine a game you can play looking like.

Dark Souls (and Demon's Souls) greatest strength is its level design.

I have nothing against a random dungeon crawler, but it can never be a Souls game (or vice versa).

I differ.

Souls greatest strength is the combat system. Besides, level design overall takes a hit after Anor Londo. Combat.

New Game+ not changing the positions of enemies around even a little it's its biggest tragedy.

Why is everyone down on thiz game for being online only? I thought after all the praise the division got GAF learned to let go of their hatred of always online things. I'm actually glad they didn't turn this into dragons dogma 2 considering the kind of tedious trite that game turned out to be.

As I said in another thread, an online required game won't require me from wanting to play the games I must have. Luckily there aren't many of those anyways as most of the games I buy are traditional SP/offline games.

I like Dark Souls for what it is, but honestly, after 2 playthroughs, you've experienced everything the game has to offer.

Games which have a heavily online/co-op emphasis tend to offer a far greater degree of re-playability and 'fun'.

When they say always online, do they mean always online like the "Souls" games or always online like this thing is a MMO?

Western style Monster Hunter with online coop sounds very good to me. Maybe that's what dark souls was? I never played it. I like the coop aspect of monster hunter most and I don't get how it works in dark souls.

No, Dark Souls was far less repetitive and controlled much better than Monster Hunter. It also has incredible lore and world/level design.

On randomized dungeons... they have their positives as well. As an avid ex D2 player, I can tell you randomized means playthroughs are more exciting since you don't know what's around the corner. It also encourages replayability since it's new everytime. The devil's in the details tho, randomized dungeons need to be properly tuned.

The thing that gets overlooked most of the time is that randomized doesn't preclude having actual level design. Diablo 2 was actually really good about having its randomized levels still follow designs, like how the Arcane Sanctuary was always the four paths from the center, the Maggot Tunnels were always the extremely narrow passages, etc. The whole point of randomized dungeons wasn't so that the developers could hit "Generate Level" and call it a day, it was so that when the players replayed the game multiple times, it wouldn't be boring from having memorized the levels.

Also, I swear I saw the guy switching to a scroll looking item to cast a spell.

I need direct feed, the dragon and fire effects still looked amazing. Online only however is irritating. Will have to deal with lag even when solo, bah.

Nice :p

So tech specialists! Did someone analysis this dragon in the gameplay vid ? Downgrade or not ? The model, the light.. ?

As for other monsters it's weird. They seems to have a really naked flesh look to them, that doesn't scream great details in a compressed vid. But the moblin thingy seems hugable!

Rouge Legacy has a lot of charm and its random.
Rogue Legacy, and yep. Diablo as well. I like the randomized part of this pitch.

But is there any non-bullshit justification for online only besides DRM? Anything interesting it brings to the game when playing solo?

Fire effects look incredible.

The rest not so much, definitely not on par with what they showed.

Sorry, but not even the fire effects come close to the initial reveal.

I knew it wasn't going to look like the reveal but it's hard to not be disappointed - that was one of the few games that really screamed "next-gen" when it was revealed, The Division being the other.

It's not a downgrade if you knew since the reveal that what they showed was CGI or a prerendered video of the engine running a high end PC.

Either way the game looks good and I hope they come with more variety because playing only on dungeons and caves is...dull, I would like to see some open enviroments.

The animations are the most obvious downgrade. I also think the IQ is not as good as in the original reveal trailer, aliasing is visible even at youtube quality. More in-depth analysis would need a better direct feed video.

It still looks pretty good though.

I agree with you in principle but there are more than a handful of games which will work like this and I really like the look of them. I'm not going to deny myself these games whether on PS4 or PC.

This is only based on what I can make out so forgive me if I'm wrong. Models, lighting, and motion blur seem exactly the same, fire is similar but not quite at the level of the trailer, and animation isn't in the same league. I had always expected the animation to not be reflective of the game so they seem to have gotten pretty close on a technical level. I'm also impressed that the framerate seems smooth in the higher quality video, which hasn't been the case from Capcom games in a long time. AA is likely post process since the high contrast edges are where it gives out. Normal edges seem relatively smooth. Maybe MLAA?

If its ONLINE ONLY, I'm out, I'm without Internet for now due to moving things around, and enjoying the mess out of Diabloe on my PS3. Yeeeeah, no thanks.

They've got my attention. One thing that concerns me is the implementation of randomized dungeons. I worry that the dungeons will begin to look generic and bland because artists won't have total control over their design. I hope I'm wrong though.

Randomized demon souls / dungeon crawler and loot, sign me up!

MP only I don't care about, as long as you can atleast solo dungeons. Really wish we got some direct feed footages.

My interest for this game was waning after the online only and supposed graphics down grade, but that trailer got me hyped to a point. Looks good. Seriously, why can't this have a single player mode? It looks like it would have an intriguing story, albeit in the vein of AC.

Because I won't be able to play this game anymore in ten years.

Huh? The way you interact with the levels is a key component of the Souls games, from the careful placement of enemies to the way weapons snag in tight corridors. There's no way a procedurally generated area can have the same attention to detail.

It is likely you can play solo.

Just like D3 on PC, it's online only but solo play is available.

Really dislike the futuristic arc, though maybe they can do it better than AC. Personally, I hate it.

But the game looks promising, and I like the music.

Can't wait to see people's reaction here when the next gen soul's game is online only.

I'm pretty hyped for this.

I validate that answer :p
For the animation i don't know, this could be the difference between a choregraphed scene where the dragon was always moving and doing stuff, versus gameplay where he is "waiting" for the player to play. But i mean maybe at some point he's doing the exact same thing you know.

Online only doesn't bother me, but randomly generated levels often do. Makes everything feel generic.

i completely agree. carefully crafted levels have always proven to be much more fun than randomly generated ones. i can't wait to be wrong one day when someone figures out how to make randomly generated levels as good as any designed level. i'm not saying it will ruin the game, but i'm definitely curious to see how effective the randomly generated levels works out for this.

From what they said in the presentation the future stuff sounded like a hub type world. This is where you meet others and form parties to go
