But some people would have me believe that vigilante justice is totally justified if its something you really care about like pedophiles

Vigilantes who burned to death a man wrongly accused of being a paedophile have pleaded guilty to murder.

Disabled gardener Bijan Ebrahimi, 44, was attacked after taking pictures of hooligans vandalising his hanging baskets at his home in Brislington, Bristol.

The images were to be handed over to police as evidence of anti-social behaviour by him. However police were contacted by somebody else on the council estate, who accused him of taking inappropriate pictures of children.

Officers then came to arrest Ebrahimi who was led away from his home in front of a baying mob chanting "paedo, paedo" at him, in July. Bungling officers were forced to release Ebrahimi when the reason for the images became clear.

As a result, Ebrahimi was wrongly tarred as a paedophile by rumours which spread in the local community. That led to him being beaten unconscious and then set alight, two days later.

Lee James, 24, and Stephen Norley, 24, pleaded guilty at Bristol Crown Court to murder and will be sentenced next month.

The conduct of police in the case is under investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Ebrahimi's relations released a statement paying tribute to a "loving and unselfish man".

"Bijan was a quiet, disabled man whose only joys in life came from his horticultural interests and his cat.

"Bijan was a caring, loving and unselfish man. He was an excellent uncle and a warm, supportive brother," it said.

Speaking after James and Norley admitted their guilt, Avon and Somerset Police spokesman Martin Dunscombe said Bijan had been completely innocent of child sex crimes.

He said: "Mr Ebrahimi was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence - breach of the peace - and after being interviewed he was released with no further action taken.

"We can categorically state he had not taken any indecent images and that nothing of concern had been found on his computer."

An IPPC spokesman said six police officers have been interviewed and six call handlers were in line for questioning for a mix of criminal and professional misconduct.

IPCC Deputy Chair Rachel Cerfontyne said: "This is a tragic case and my sympathies go to Mr Ebrahimi's family and friends for their loss."

Bad idea. Burning alive someone you suspected of messing with kids is how you get Freddy Kruegers.

Seriously though, moments like this make me hesitant to even go near children in public.

That is a very good reason why Vigilantism is not always the answer, investigations need to be made.

Also I am pretty sure Freddy is real now.

An innocent man is dead because of complete ignorance and people who want a reason to let their violent tendencies loose.

The mugshots of the two set off that douchebags alert. Fucking morons.

Also, police arrested the guy because somebody thought he was taking inappropriate pictures? No smidgen of proof or anything?

The "burning him alive" shit is overkill and seems like they already had something against the guy or didn't like him in the first place.

Sad story.

They done created a nightmare on elm street scenario. Jake is on them, their children gonna be haunted in their dream.

And he haunted the nightmares of their children for countless sequels.

First thing i thought of, instead of dreams he will come get them through plants, eat your veggies kid. But sad story, people jump the gun too quick these days, if the police released him they should have stayed back.

People in the 'blackface three' thread should heed the dangers of this sort of bloodlust vigilantism. Obviously this is on a whole different level, (this one perpetrated on an innocent, the other perpetrated on 3 almost definitely indefensible people) but in my opinion the sentiment is the same.

We must be so careful in how we react to an injustice, because the fervent quest to ruin people's lives and sate our appetite for justice and vengeance can be so damaging, even fatal. It's so hard but we need to let the law run it's course and step back from the invasive detective work and vitriol you often see enveloping those social media backlash situations.

Wait...beat and burned him? WTF? Even if he was a pedophile, you're not allowed to just kill in the name of justice. Those guys are sociopaths, plain and simple. PEACE.

Yeah, I saw that and was like "wow"

I always thought this was part of the reason Batman doesn't kill. He realizes he is a vigilante and as such isn't part of the judicial system or any system for that matter, and acts accordingly by not taking the law into his own hands. If he kills, much like these guys did to that poor man, he's just another crazy psychopath.

It really doesn't because that guy was caught naked and hiding in the bushes while staring at underage girls then actually punching the first person who confronted him for it.

Totally the same thing.

This is absolutely true.

It's one thing to gather up a mob over unverified allegations. It's another to defend your family when a violent naked stranger is in the process of stalking them. That isn't a license to do whatever you want, you could easily make the case that it was savage beating and went way too far, but people bringing that up seem are far too eager to establish a false equivalency just so that they can call others hypocrites.

Very different situations to say the least.

There is no situation where it is okay to take the law into your own hands and promote vigilantism.

They were not "defending their family". They chased him and caught up to him and beat him into critical condition.

Vigilantism and actively defending your family instead of calling the cops and waiting for a situation to resolve itself are two very different things. There are no absolutes in this. To compare this situation to the other one is a substantial leap.

Edit: ^^Yeah, dude punched one of the underage girls' brother first - after he got caught masturbating naked in a bush. Did they go too far? Arguable as they got caught up in one of hell of a moment. This is very different though. Saying that they aren't does you no favors.
