Mighty No.9 Kickstarter (PS4/XB1 & Vita/3DS are GO!) (Inafune/IC, $4M FUNDED)

So they've confirmed that this woman is in fact just a community manager with exactly the level of control over the game as you'd expect from a CM? Can we take a step back from this now? I'm going to assume it will take another week or so before I'm ready to brave the official forums, since undoubtedly there's 200 people still sitting on hot zingers in text files on their desktop itching for an excuse to still post them.

I would describe applauding Sweden dropping male and female pronouns to be a radical position.

You'd have to go back to Nov 2012, when she was applauding Sweden for dropping "him" and "her" from school language.
Sorry, but the only one who sounds "radical" in this situation is you.

Anyway, I don't understand the cries of her being unqualified as a community manager when she just got the job. Her using networking to get the position doesn't say anything about her qualifications.

Exactly. It's been that way since this whole "witch-hunt" started. Not even the words from the creator's mouth would dissuade those zinger-happy individuals from ignoring the truth.

tl;dr It's time to move on. Especially because there's exciting news to talk about like this!

CALL VOTE PART 2

OK, so that’s enough about “who” -- let’s get back to “what,” as in “what is going on with the second Call vote?!” This week we’re getting Mighty Nos. and passwords to the last few Beckers whose emails bounced, but after that, we should be ready to go -- the plan is for the vote to begin on 12.19 (the URL will be posted in a backer-only update and on the forums), and run until 12.29, when the votes will be tallied and the final winning design for Mighty No. 9’s heroine will be announced!

E; love me some Atsushi Nishigori (Panty and Stocking) style shenanigans.

One wonders if C Might win for the wrong reasons, though.

She posted it?

No, as far I know. I didn't want to say that

What I mean is that is kind of depressing that someone took the time to draw their favorite characters beating a "gender bender straw feminist villian with a lot of white knights defending her" because some community manager shitstorm.

Ohh, I read your post wrong .

I read "to post" and I really don't know why...

Why? Some are saying that we should, essentially, take the end product and judge it at face value. Well, if that's the case, wouldn't you all say that Chik-Fil-A deserves your money if their sandwiches taste great, regardless of the beliefs of the individual running the company? If anything, that situation is less egregious than this one, in a sense, since this person is involved in the game's design to some extent, despite potentially being a non-fan of the Mega Man series with little-to-no experience with the franchise. She's pushing radical agendas, some of which may upset backers because of their own beliefs. At least the dude running Chik-Fil-A clearly knows a good chicken sandwich from a bad one.

Well, if we're going with analogies, I think a more accurate one would be if a PR spokesperson for Chick-Fil-A expressed that they felt that Dijon Mustard was underused in commercial chicken sandwiches, and as a result of those comments, the whole company got boycotted by the Mayo Collective.

Or something.

i can't believe that this folderol is ENTIRELY over the nostalgia of entitled white male 30-something nerds.

if i were rich, i would give comcept X million bucks to make mega man v2.0 a transgendered robot that battles dr. colonialist wily. defeat a boss, collect that robot's genitals and self-install for PRIVILEGE POWERS

Only two levels before the Wily stages? You haven't thought this through.

(I suppose three is possible, but I'd expect that more as a secret unlockable 'uniting the powers' kinda akin to MMX's hadokens)

Wow, I missed this drama, and I'm glad I did.

As has been said, though, I wouldn't mind if Beck is male or female, but that design is one of the most hideous things I've ever seen. Make Call the protagonist or something if for some reason you just -have to- make the protagonist a female. But that design is truly horrendous. Also, I'm kind of glad I don't post in those forums, I guess :(

Retsuprae to the rescue: shining a big fucking spotlight on people who are, literally, acting insane.

I remember commenting way back in this thread that it would be really cool for Beck to be female. Had no idea some dudes are afraid of this as a possibility.

I would have liked a female protagonist if that was planned from the start, but male Beck has grown on me. It shouldn't be changed on a whim, for no reason.

I was, however, against them making Mighty No. 8 male for no reason when it was originally a female robot.

Call E for life. Seriously. At first, I couldn't decide between E and F, but E is now firmly "Call" in my mind.

8 was originally female? Huh.. I don't remember hearing that.

From Backer Update 19:

We'd also initially planned for two of the boss robots to be female, and for one of them to have unusual or unexpected traits. It seemed like a perfect fit for No. 8, so I requested “it” be a “she.” Then I got the first artwork back from Kimo Kimo...

[concept drawing]

The conversation that followed went a little something like this:

Imaeda: I said to make it female!
Kimo Kimo: It’s just, from the description you gave me, it felt like this design just matched it so well...
Inafune: Whoa, hey, Mighty No. 8 is looking great!
Imaeda: Err…

Oh man, I didn't even think to check /v/'s reaction to this. Bunch of misogynists must be flipping their shit right now, it'll be good for a laugh.

Giving people the option, a la Shovel Knight, is something more games need to do anyway.

The funny thing is that the devs don't care... as it should be. In anycase, I didn't know anon was reduced to do drawings of the level of political cartoons.

Probably the next release of any actual game information, which would probably be the next round in the Call vote I guess.

after reading up both /v/ and GAF and a few friends bitching about this on opposite side of the debate I still don't really get what happened here

Like possibly dumb example, but did that "END OF LINE" guy being a hilariously awful community manager on the bioware forums have anything to do with the quality of their games?

I seriously can not bring myself to give a shit one way or the other about gender rights in a fucking Mega Man revival game. It just seems like an inappropriate venue for it to have been brought up in the first place, though I'm not really blaming any particular person here either.

Seems like a pretty rough situation for the developers. Dina can't really be effective as a Community Manager if every post she makes is going to cause an uproar and controversy. It's really no fault of her own, but I don't think they want this cloud of negativity surrounding the game's ongoing development. She's probably qualified to do her job even if she hasn't played that much MegaMan, but there's so much animosity surrounding her in that Community Manager role that you almost have to take her off of it.
