He's even capitalizing The, how does that not scream pretentious?

No need for name calling buddy. Everyone gets to use their preferred nickname for consoles. And I think my predictions are close to what will likely happen. But we shall see right?

I think the Xbox One most used nicknames will be:

1. Xbone
2. XBO
(..)
64699733124. The One

I can't see "The One" being the nick people use to refer to the Xbone, except for a few hardcore fanboys. I'm sorry, but i don't see it happening. Xbone already has a lot of traction as a nickname on the internet; and in real life, most people wil called simple the Xbox One.

If you called the Xbox 360, "The 360", then "The One" might seem appropriate.

I'm pretty sure that was the logic behind MS choosing "One" for the console name; but the difference is that the specific numerical names in other consoles (N64, 360) "the One" feel pretentious more than anything (at least for me. Starting 'cause is a written number rather than the number itself).

Anyway, i think that XBO would go and become the standard abbreviation of the console in most places.

I don't know if I'd make that comparison. Even if sales of previous recent models don't indicate such, the Mustang BRAND has a ton of weight in Europe amongst auto enthusiasts.

Well, it wasn't DIRECT name calling...

And for whatever it's worth I'm not really advocating everyone call it "Xbone" or anything, I'd just stuck with X1 initially then XB1/Xbox One to at least be a bit more neutral/respectful. It just seems really pretentious given how loaded that is, whereas 360 wasn't.

Admittedly it does seem wholly possible for marketing to see this and try to capitalize on it as the claimed developer on 4chan said, but like I was saying it just comes off as too pretentious, too loaded and heavy of a name, especially one that'll be obsolete within a decade and isn't even the first of a new product line. So I think only the really big fans (zealous or not) using "The One" and everyone else using either more neutral or derogatory names.

But let me get one thing straight since I seem to be misunderstood here, I own The One but I've also ordered a PS4 recently on amazon. I wanted a PS4 more than The One but obviously none were available at or after launch and I don't believe in preordering things. Anyways, I wanted both consoles. Yes I know my opinion on DRM isn't popular with most GAFers but I honestly believe The One would have been better with it and it would have truly differentiated the consoles. As I see it now, the differences are negligible, which is unfortunate. I do hope it comes back though.

It's the price mixed with good PR. The only mistakes Sony made this year (that weren't even that big) were the mandatory PS+ subscription and lack of MP3 support at launch.

Oh boy.. I'm sure you really do like the DRM policies but I'm also sure that not everyone likes it based on its backlash. As much as you hope for it, I don't think it's coming back. Phil and the other execs did express that it was only a delay and that we were not ready for what they had planned out for the future of gaming. If that was even a future where everyone is happy...
