Agents of Mayhem (Saints Row devs) 15/18 August release, new trailer

Definitely keeping an eye on this. For a moment I thought they were trying to copy Overwatch but it looks like you just pick a faction and play through a story mode in an open world.

Or so I hope.

Weird, they have the 80s references going strong, but I liked the Agents of Mayhem theme at the very end more than either of the references.

I'll wait for reviews but be cautiously optimistic.

You choose three characters in your load-out and are able to switch on the fly.

I think it's this part that's putting me off a bit. It feels like a last gen conceit (I'm sure it's not, but it feels like it). I'd be more interested in having the whole squad present simultaneously with the option to switch between them (plus co-op).

So, for the DLC, left to right:

Iron Man, Luke Cage, Ms. Marvel, Cyclops, ???, Captain America.

Who the heck is the Oleg analog supposed to be? I was convinced he was Panthro for some reason, but that makes no sense.

Supposedly the game will be heavy on the Saturday morning cartoon style, so I expect the AoM theme to pop up a lot.

No they don't. Personally I got tired of the Saints Row wackiness, they never brought my favourite online mode back either, Blinged Out Ride.

Same, Saints Row was really just spinning its wheels past 3. I wonder if now that AOM exists for wackiness, it opens up Saints Row to get refreshed and relatively grounded.

Even Battleborn at least had CO-OP.

And the gameplay looks like something out of a free-to-play game, like Triad Wars was to Sleeping Dogs.

I don't think they're that specifically Marvel. My guess from left to right:

Iron Man, Bruce Lee, ??? (either Punisher or Cobra inspired), X-Men, Panthro, American Gladiator

Well I would certainly like them to keep a less serious tone but the gameplay itself got boring, it felt like a cluster of ideas not very well put together as the series went on. Just being "out there" for the sake of it.

Hrn, looking at it again, it looks like the girl on the right is more Wonder Woman than Captain America, so it doesn't seem to be specifically Marvel.

Three HAS to be Kamala Khan Ms. Marvel, though. What a weird assortment.

This gave a way better idea than Polygon's video. I'm really loving the direction this is going in. The end of the Eurogamer video got pretty hectic, which is cool. The "Balls" joke was too much, but, hey, everything else looks and sounds fun.

Nah, I don't think that's Ms. Marvel. That's far too removed from her. Fortune looks like a mix of Captain America and Punisher. Then again, looking at Cobra, I can see where those comparison would come from.

Side note, I love the idea that Pierce has to basically be born into another universe that doesn't have The Boss or Johnny as Gang Members to get respect.

Yeah I was just thinking it seemed like the G.I. Joe game that was never made
Looks alright. Steam sale buy worthy as of now from what I've seen.

In my opinion game screams coop but there is no coop in game :/ City looks nice, characters are ok but gameplay they showed is really boring.

Just FYI, this is all B-roll footage supplied by the publisher and is being played by someone really showboating to use all the abilities in the flashiest way possible. That's fine! It makes for cool video. In my experience with the game, there wasn't much impetus to be this active and dramatic--the AI are real basic and I spent more time hiding around a corner to recover shield, popping out to use some abilities and kill a guy or two, etc. And the degree of hectic it would yet could make it pretty hard to tell what was going on.

If you get really into the game I'm sure you can make it look that exciting, but in my experience it wasn't as much fun to control as it looks.

From the Eurogamer preview:

Eurogamer said:
The gameplay is scruffy and has a very last-gen feel, while the humour is both tired and uninspired. Most troublesome of all though is the general apathy surrounding the game; there's just no buzz for Agents at all.

That's not to say, however, that there isn't fun to be had. Agents has its moments - when you get into the groove with the combat, deftly flicking between your three available agents and their specialist skills, for instance, or retiring an injured character at just the right moment so they can recover health back at the base.

Doesn't sound very reassuring.

The combat looks like Destiny with more character variety. Walking around next to enemies dumping bullets into them and jumping away if they try to attack with the occasional explosive ability. The only thing Destiny has going for it is its coop though so..... this seems pretty boring.

This is ultimately going to live or die based on Volition's ability to script great set pieces that make otherwise standard games memorable. Saints Row 3 and 4 work (IMO), because of great moments within the campaign. If AoM has the same magic, I'll enjoy it.

This is exactly what I wanted from the next Saints Row game; a game that focuses less on the Saints and more on how crazy earth has gotten after Zinyak invaded.

same here. The missions will take place in the city itself, which makes me happy, and Daisy's intro mission is absurd as hell and gives me hope.

This. She has a skull on her chest. That's not a Ms Marvel reference. The first thing that came to mind was Punisher when he was dressing up a bit like Captain America:

...due to the color scheme, the skull on the chest, and the fact that she dual wields pistols, but that might be a little too much of a deep cut. It's possible they messed with the colors a bit just to avoid copyright infringement though.

This looks like Fuse, before Fuse changed into something we all hated.

Not saying that makes this great, but this basically reminds me of that initial Fuse trailer.

The skull on her chest seems to be her logo, though. It's yellow, so I think it's less of a direct reference to Punisher and more of a "we can't use the actual inspiration's logo, so we'll take the character's logo and make it yellow" thing. The guns are also a holdover from the character, and the Game of Death costume doesn't really seem like it has any link from the character to the inspiration, either.

Those red sleeves, too. I dunno, it may not be Ms. Marvel, but I don't think it's Punisher/Cap either.

I am even more excited after watching few previews. Some of the characters are really, really well done and interesting. Also i am happy to hear that there will be boss fights. Everything looks great imo.

I am curious about customization options, such as outfits, etc. If it is like Saints Row in that regard, then I am sold. The rest looks like solid fun.

You can change your character's skins, but that's about it. Nowhere near as indepth as the Saints Row games.

As a fan of Saints Row 3 and 4, I can't say I'm excited for this. If anything, this games kinda reminds me of Fuse...

I'll keep an eye on it though, the no co-op is a disappointment, since that's how I play Saints, and I'm not generally a fan of shooters. But if the game scores well, or upcoming gameplay trailers and impressions impress me, then I might pick it up.
