For anyone that thought those shots are fake, the latest Game Informer I just got has them in it. They are legit, not fakes:(

Yikes. But not really that surprising. BY all accounts Volition aren't a huge team and perhaps they've simply spread themselves far too thin.

By the way, if you have the new Game Informer, could you start a thread with the review scores and rumours? It would be appreciated.

In fact, it's ironic that your user name is Bling Bling, IIRC, that was the working title of Saint's Row.

The preview made it sound really cool though. The whole destructibility sort of explains the visuals.

Revolution Returns to Mars in THQ’s Groundbreaking Open World Shooter Red Faction®: Guerrilla™
Third-Person Action-Shooter Re-Defines Destruction and Open-World Game-Play

AGOURA HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--THQ Inc. (NASDAQ:THQI) today announced that Volition, Inc.’s critically acclaimed Red Faction® franchise will make its open-world, next-generation debut with Red Faction®: Guerrilla™. Set 50 years after the climactic events of the original Red Faction, this third-person open-world action-shooter will return to Mars and once again re-define the limits of destruction-based game-play. Red Faction: Guerrilla is currently in development for Microsoft Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Sony PLAYSTATION® 3 computer entertainment system, and Windows-based PC, and is scheduled to ship in THQ’s fiscal year 2009.

"Red Faction is one THQ’s most successful and critically acclaimed original franchises to date, with a huge global base of loyal fans waiting to join the new revolution," said Brad Carraway, director of global brand management, THQ. "With the game’s unique pairing of true physics-based destruction, fast-paced guerrilla warfare style combat, and a massive world to explore – Red Faction: Guerrilla will redefine the limits of open-world gaming.”

“Red Faction: Guerrilla expands the signature destruction elements of the series and pushes the boundaries of next-gen gaming on a massive, terra-formed Mars where gamers can literally tear down the enemy EDF presence brick by brick,” said Mike Kulas, president of Volition, Inc. ”With a new 3rd person perspective, a full cover system that allows for guerrilla style tactics and a diverse planet to explore we’re excited to revitalize the gripping world of Red Faction for high-definition platforms.”

About Red Faction: Guerrilla

Red Faction: Guerrilla is a 3rd person, open-world action shooter set on Mars, 50 years after the events of the original Red Faction. Players will take the role of an insurgent fighter with the newly re-established Red Faction movement as they battle for liberation from the oppressive Earth Defense Force. Throughout their fight for freedom, players will carve their own path, wreaking havoc across the vast, open-world environment of Mars, from the desolate mining outpost of Parker to the gleaming EDF capital city of Eos. Utilizing improvised weapons, explosives and re-purposed mining equipment and vehicles, Red Faction: Guerrilla allows players to tear through fully destructible environments in an unforgiving Martian landscape swarming with EDF forces, Red Faction resistance fighters, and the downtrodden settlers caught in the cross-fire. Red Faction: Guerrilla will also feature a robust multiplayer component, including several modes focused on destruction-based gameplay. Currently in development for Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PLAYSTATION 3, and Windows PC, Red Faction: Guerrilla is expected to ship to retailers worldwide in THQ’s fiscal year 2009.

I'm a bit mixed about the game being a 3rd person shooter. I can understand Volition and THQ perhaps wanting to stand-out amongst the glut of FPS games on the market and perhaps establish themselves as a unique 3rd person game which seems to be the first true sci-fi sandbox game. On the other hand it also seems a bit lazy to me since Volition can basically just recycle the tech they have established from Saints Row except put it in a sci-fi setting but I can understand how doing this could cut down on development time and costs in a way.

I just saw some footage of Lusasarts' 3rd person shooter, Fracture, and it has a bunch of odd, Rachet and Clank type landscape-changing weapons, but it looks great. This game just looks like ass right now. Destructibility is no excuse.

I'm still holding faith that the game plays like the original. RF for the PC had possibly the most fun CTF I've played; I could care less about the graphics as long as the gameplay is great. shitty graphics= more people can play it.

Wait a second...hold the phone. They turned Red Faction into an open world 3rd person shooter?

What. The. Hell? :lol
Who gives a shit. If they properly revive Geomod all is forgiven. Just don't bastardize it like RF2.

Funny, but the game looks decent in the magazine layout. Those same shots here, though, are just dreadful.

They really have to include this now. I mean, they've already got it into the game so why would they waste the assets?

...that sound effect was wonderful.

Please, please please keep the Ostrich Hammer in the game, Volition. I loved Red Faction 1 and I've been dying to get back into the series. The Ostrich Hammer would help smooth my transition.

Holy shit that was great. :lol I love that they were such good sports about it.

TheKingsCrown really does need "OSTRICHSIZED" as his tag now.
