Keighley: Konami lawyers holding Kojima hostage; audience loudly boos. Inconceivable.

Kojima is friends with JJ Abrams, he's probably met Hamill already. But yeah, would have been nice to get the award from him

Can't wait until Kojima is free. All those years he created such wonderful projects for such a shitty company. Can't wait to see what he'll do next once out of this :/

You know what the terrible thing is? We can't hurt Konami. They've already made millions from TPP, it already brought them probably more money than they initially anticipated. And now, they've taken the money and ran.

You guys ever see a movie where the bad guy wins? Well, this right here is exactly that.

This is how Outer Heaven was created. Kojima, if you build it, we will come!

Remember when Kojima met George Miller? i have rarely seen him smile so happy.

I'm sure he would have LOVED to meet Mark Hamill, especially since he's such a big Star Wars fan.

Fucking hell :(

When he was still developing his game, he was locked out of his entire development studio, the bedrock for any director. His company, his name, his face, his identity, everything was stolen from him.

This world will become one. I have found the way. Race, console affiliation, all will be irrelevant. The world that Kojima envisioned will finally become a reality, and it will make gaming whole again.

With this, I rid the world of infestation, aller vous faire foutre Konami. The company will be torn asunder... and then, he shall be free.

I think to even mention the company's name is a disservice to the community and the industry at this point. They want nothing to do with video gaming, lets give them a hand and push them into obscurity.

Kojima is MGS, who cares about the publisher.

You know, I have always wondered if the movie people Kojima meets actually play videogames or even takes them seriously as a form of art/expression.

I mean that's the next logical step. When Kojima is free he sets up his Outer Heaven, a développeurs de jeux sans frontières. He just needs to find a Miller. And maybe kill an idealistic but corrupt up and coming game developer who has part of a large fortune and uses psychic twins to pilot a robot.

Maybe he could just use Kickstarter for the last part.

artists typically respect other mediums. george miller probably does not play video games

If Gamers really "hated" EA then they would not allow record breaking sales for EA year after year. Look at EA's stock price after becoming the "most hated company in America."

This is such an unfortunate situation...by supporting Kojima and buying MGS5, we're also filling Konami's pockets and ensuring their operational survival.

The ones that hate EA really go out of their way to not buy or play their games. There's so many other gamers that don't care enough about what EA did, or wasn't around then like me. I only barely knew of Bullfrog since they made Hi-Octane which I owned and played on PS1. I know about Maxis, and the Mercenary dev too but even though I was a huge Sims 1 fan I didn't really like the sequels enough to feel horrible about them not being in whatever state they are with EA now (if they still exist).

Every time Origins (store front) is brought up people mention not wanting to use it because of EA's past. EA has amazing customer service, origin runs very good, snappy, and feels a lot lighter than steam to me. The PC side of EA seems to be solid with their no EA policy, though again, it's not a huge group since new gamers were born and are growing.

Why are we still here?

Just to suffer? Every night, I can feel my studio, and my fans, even my finished game. The job I've lost, the fans I've disappointed. It won't stop hurting. Like they're all still there.
You feel it too don't you?

I'm the one who got caught up with Konami. Publisher above EA. Even Capcom. And I was the developer below, developing off Konami's money.

OMG guys now that i think about it it makes sense
hatred of Konami will unify the gaming community
consoles will be irrelevent
its so fucking meta it hurts
Konami are The Patriots

Regardless of how MGSV turned out for some, that was such an asshole move by Konami. I wonder if they'll respond at all to the criticisms or just bury their heads in their ass.

it would be cool if the movie people like "I wish you could make a game from my movie" imagine StarWars, Pacific Rim or MadMax game from Hideo Kojima, that'd be insane as hell.

it almost happened with Del Toro too with Silent Hills. not a movie franchise, but the idea of Kojima making official movie game adaptation from popular movie franchise sounds amazing.

I haven't follow this whole...thing at all.

What exactly cause this huge rift between Kojima and Konami? I get that they're basically leaving the gaming industry but why treat him like a piece of shit?

Dude it's not a ruse. You don't publicly call out a company like that and make light of an already shitty situation just for a joke. And for what?

That is the thing tho. Seems like people going out of their way to make this a really big issue. Not too long ago Keighley did a podcast where he talked about that moby dick studios prank. He explained it like Kojima and a bunch of Konami reps/lawyers got into a room with him. They forced him to sign all these papers explaining the prank and how it will be etc. Seeing this stuff now just seems fishy. Seems kinda coordinated but wtvr.

Its really messed up they didn't let him accept the award for a game he worked so long on. Also fucked up Kiefer Sutherland was allowed to accept the award (of all the people involved with mgs over the years) and not someone else.

You know, despite some of the questionable decisions made in regards to the game, story and characters, TPP was still fantastically fun. Hats off to Kojima, a true visionary and it's such a shame it came to what happened several hours ago. Konami deserves the scorn it's getting.

you know there have been leaks to multiple journalists about the conditions and status of Kojima Productions for nearly 9 months now, and that many of them received take downs on their videos because of it, right?

Dude, the company is gone. They liquidated it, just like how they shit canned the entire LA studio. There is like nobody to accept the award anymore, the only relic left of KP are the actors.

According to rumors Kojima apparently was pretty lavish in TPP's development budget and the game's story isn't even particularly fleshed out nor concluded.

They wouldn't let him accept the Playstation award reported on earlier today. Many in that thread were saying it was no big deal because he was in LA to accept this one... obviously, that's not the case.

#FucKonami

To be fair we were put under the impression he'd be at this one as there was zero evidence that Konami blocked him from appearing there, it was all speculation.

So I was wrong, but I suppose that's what I deserve for giving Konami the benefit of the doubt.

A lot of the questionable decisions come from Konami wanting the game out the door it seems. Like in March he was talking about shooting the tank of water above the outhouses that are at guard outposts to bring guards out of them/distractions and while you can do that in the Phantom Pain it doesn't seem as elaborate as he was describing.

Kojima, for better or worse is a very detail/perfectionist person. And Konami isn't in the business to dump that amount of money for him when they can save that money and do shitty Casino games.

Sometime in December afaik.

End of December. The major worry is the next year of support for MGO and MGO's PC launch.

Some reports say he kept scrapping the project and starting over, and that spilled into the budget massively. Corporate put their foot down, and are moving on to greener pastures with more return and less uncertainty.

We shouldn't let them treat one of gaming's legends like that, he basically has founding father status in the industry. Fuck Konami and good on Geoff.

That's the first I heard of it. Sounds pretty unlikely considering the screenshots we had of Project ORGE looked exactly like assets of MGSV in Africa, not to mention the african kid in the first demo of the engine is in MGSV.

We'll get the details, but I think it's a combination of the engine being expensive, Konami bailing out of console gaming for the most part (which means that big investment of FOX Engine was pointless) and Kojima also being expensive and not worth it for the companies next step in using all their IP's for gambling.

The sheer volume of love and support being replied to that one tweet alone is mind blowing.

Well-deserved, too. It's a shame that he wasn't the one to represent, not only himself, but his team, as well. He, and everyone involved, worked tirelessly on MGSV. Some weren't happy with how it all came together in the end, sure, but it would be hard for anyone not to appreciate the level of care and detail that went into the countless hours that went into the game's development. The same could be said for every game he's been a part of, truly, but I think, given the conditions he had to work under, MGSV may be his most impressive feat, yet.

Does Konami even have a console game coming?

They really are making their way out of this business and don't give a single fuck about their reputation among the gaming community. They don't even care if they publicly look like villains. What a shit situation.

Can't wait for Kojima's contract to be over. I hope he'll then talk a bit about his last months/years at Konami...
