I usually don't care that much about sequels because most of the time they are just dragging out a concept that didn't need a second game (see: Gears of War 2). But Mass Effect established a very solid foundation for truly involving conversations and a good narrative.
I don't even care if they update their graphics engine. In fact, I hope they simply focus more on polishing the narrative and the fundementals they already established. Mass Effect was already a very good game and now that they have the foundation and can focus on the "meat" of the experience, the sequel could be fantastic.
