No team should ever consider a "1-game play-in game" to be "in the playoff hunt."
Especially if they're behind like 5 or 6 other teams - even if "only by a few games" - since they would need too many other teams to lose for it to matter.

If they're not in contention for a division lead, they should do whatever they're going to do as if they're not in playoff contention, regardless of where they are in relation to one of the "new wild card" spots.
