Also, NASA. Not sure if you want to lump that in with "defense". ARPANet was developed at universities. Students and professors could not have had the education and knowledge required to do the research without basic public education from K-12. So it's not so simple and clear cut; it's all interconnected in a sense and that's what I mean, people don't see these connections.

I think NASA is definitely a "defense" program. As much as I love the science behind it, I can't believe that the officials that approve it's funding don't have defense applications in mind. Sure, there may be some federal grants involved in education, but the bulk of the money comes from local funding. I'd go as far to say that the federal stuff is just more pork that could be done away with.

Let's wait until you're of age and you don't have employer sponsored healthcare and see how you feel.

Sounds like a good argument for getting rid of employer sponsored healthcare.

They also draw from federal funds as well. See NCLB.

More pork that the fed uses to dangle over the states. :)

Hey, when I wake up in the mornings, I have to go through 15-20 pages. If I can do it, anyone can. :lol

It doesn't even take that, one glance at a political blog or two is enough, expecting others to take the time for you strikes me as, well, lazy :p

If it becomes commonplace then yeah, fight! :p

(This is nothing new either, it's been banned behaviour on the gaming side before during E3 and events etc before now.)

Of course, these were just those on the fringes. McCain said so himself. /sarcasm

Sigh... where are all the facepalm gifs when I need them? :(

Fair enough Hito, but Dax is definitely not the first to copy Ami, I have seen it in other threads too, I just don't want it to become commonplace, as I said above.

It doesn't bother me going through the pages. Sure I can go to a couple of Poliblogs, but PoliGaf has it all: all the different polls, articles, etc. :D

Note that Ghaleon was leading the charge there ;). Perhaps Cheebs' Chicken Little moniker needs to be redirected.
In between posts noting that some of the trackers have shifted OVER THE PAST WEEK I was also noting massive voter registration gains, early voting turnout and rock-solid electoral map Obama has. Toss the chicken little shit stuff at someone else. :p

I like how all these republican assholes are up in arms about someone who makes a comfortable living being taxed a few bucks extra to help those not that well off- if you suggest dropping their ludicrous financial support we give Israel by a penny, one of the richest and militarily advanced countries in the world, they hit the fucking fan.

One of the things that scares me about a McCain presidency is that Lieberman will have his ear, and it definitely looks like he has alot of influence.

This is what the fuck I'm talking about. Some REPs just don't seem to hear their own bullshit.

It goes like this......

"Man I don't want the government to take my hard earned money. I make 50K a year and I'm about to get married. Obama will take all my hard earned money and give it to welfare people. And another thing I heard he doesn't support Isreal. Why doesn't he want to support Isreal? We need to keep giving them support (money & weapons) to support the war on terror."

It's just stupid. Give billions to another country that we can't control is okay, but helping millions of our own Americans get from poverty to middle class or helping people already in middle class is bad.

Nah. Obama isn't sitting on his base. He's playing an active game, setting up massive ground game to end the match, while distracting McCain via repeated air harassments in order to disrupt any sort of rallying and focused offense from McCain.

I'm not copying Ami, I'm just doing the exact same thing he is doing to a certain extent.

It'd be great if that "liberal media" I so often hear about would fucking blow the whistle on this bogus voter fraud horseshit already.

Annnnnny time now, NBC/MSNBC/CNN/ABC/CBS.

With the help of the corrupt Justice Department, the Republican Party and the McCain campaign are currently butchering our electoral process.

Fucking. Do. Your. Job. And. Report. It.

The core difference between folks like Jay (and maybe your dad and yourself) and someone like me is that I believe that private corporations and the free market cannot be entrusted with these types of basic investments; I tend to have faith that if the right people are in power and if there is enough transparency, government can be a responsible steward of our tax dollars, working to maximize them by investing in the types of things which may not net immediate financial benefits, but have the potential to shape the future of the country in a positive way.

Late to the party on this quote but also:

Remember without Ralph Baer and Sanders electronics having heavy investments from the Government (albeit military) we wouldn't have our Pac Man Video Games of today ;P

Actually, the Justice Department has looked into it before, and saw no evidence for a case. It's one of the reasons those US Attorneys were fired--they weren't toeing the Republican line.

Onion article:

Obama protested briefly before Clutter interrupted the graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, brusquely informing the senator that he could "detain [Obama's] uppity ass for 48 hours without charging [him] with shit."

"Huh. Illinois," Clutter said while scrutinizing Obama's driver's license from behind a pair of mirrored aviator sunglasses. "You a long way from home, ain't ya?"

"Now Barry, someone 'bout your height, 'bout your skin color knocked over a Piggly Wiggly up in New Hebron just a coupla hours ago," Clutter continued. "But you wouldn't know nothin' 'bout that, now would you?"

Clutter then turned to Obama's wife, Michelle, looked her up and down, and wiped his mouth with a handkerchief.

Brilliant.

Stupid people are stupid. Selfish people are selfish. Many people in this country are more concerned about themselves than they are anyone else. There's nothing wrong with that per se, but when someone explains to you by saying, "We're gonna take a little bit more in taxes to help out this family of 4 making less than 50k a year," why the fuck wouldn't you just say "ok." Seriously, it doesn't make any sense.

How is taking a little bit more from those that make $250k a year "unfair?" I make WAY less than 250k a year, am single, and couldn't care less if a little bit more was taken out of my check to help that family of 4 or that small business. It's like being able to give to those that have less than you has been demonized beyond reprieve in this country.

YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH! McCain himself said during the last debate that he's running an honest campaign, doing nothing but talking about the economy. How hare you insult an honorable war hero with your lies!

Exactly. That's why I said "with the help of the corrupt Justice Department." Those who put law over partisan-politics were thrown to the curb in replace of loyal Bushies like Bradley Schlozman, who's willing to push these bogus fraud charges right before an election like a good Republican.

To be fair, the rationalization is that people would be even more charitable if left to their own devices, not that charity is demonized.

As Election Day approaches the national polls become more and more irrelevant. Tightening Gallup or not, Obama stands to exceed 270 electoral votes just on states considered safe. Again, the debates are done, newscycles are fading, and voting has already begun. All that matters now is the Electoral College.
