Thanks for the reply. Guess I'll have to be part of the problem and import too.

Though, since I only have a local region BD player, guess my only option is the Australian release.

You can buy the region free Japanese BD with English subtitles like I did. Costs like 1500 JPY pre-owned since it came with a lottery ticket to the final live and everybody bought 10 copies each :p

Oh, didn't realise the Japanese release is perfectly viable. Might consider that then.

Hopefully AllTheAnime do a better job with Sunshine.

The JP release was multiregion (as in, plays on a bogstandard UK player). This was, of course, also Part Of The Problem - JP disk prices are a lot easier to digest on a one-off movie release as opposed to a TV show, and that release of the movie was subtitled.

Also, the JP version is probably the only one which has As Time Goes By, as opposed to Stars, Come To Me or whatever the international replacement was.

Aldnoah basically looks fine. It's...everything else about it. I guess the music was okay too.

Yup. The stupid character, plot holes and miss opportunities is what destroy the title. For what it promised as Gundam killer, it even unable to defeat Macross Delta which is the worst Macross lol.

Classroom of the Edge 11

This was so mindlessly stupid and the girls in their class are PAINFULLY stupid. "We think one of you boys stole one pair of panties so clearly one of you boys also set our very important handbook on fire which would hurt our entire class. It couldn't have possibly been one of the other asshole teams that have been trying to fuck us over since day one."

Did have a good laugh seeing Horikita get the shit beaten out of her though. Oh look MC said something mildly nice and made another hostile girl blush and wet her panties, isn't he so great?

Space Battleship Yamato 2202- [1-6]
NxSCi7L.jpg
I only wanted to start this when there was a substantial number of episodes out. I don't think you can get an accurate judgement of a show off just two episodes alone and for a work like this that needs a while to get going, that was probably an accurate judgment. The first six episodes cover the Yamato leaving Earth and the start of a recovery mission, which also happens to be the Yamato's first skirmish against the Gatlantis Empire. My reaction after watching the first six is that it's definitely not as good as 2199 but it's not terrible either.
The first episode is probably the worst of the bunch as it covers a fight between part of the Gatlantis fleet and the combined Earth/Gamilas fleet. It ends with the Andromeda, Earth's new primary battleship, firing its dual Wave Motion Gun which wipes out the Gatlantis fleet. The Gatlantis command ship survives and does a kamikaze attack towards Earth. That's a major aspect of the Gatlantis fighting style in that they'll do kamikaze style attacks if they're about to lose. This obviously brings up feelings about WW2 and Japanese kamikaze attacks in the Pacific theater. This also serves as a way of distinguishing between Gamilas and Gatlantis culture as while Gamilas was militaristic in nature, Gamilians seemed to actually like living. Something that is lacking with this initial six episodes is that I don't feel the anime spends enough time establishing the Gatlantians as a society or as individual characters. Something I thought 2199 did really well was characterizing the Gamillans and building a believable society around that. As it stands though, the first episode is a lot of shoot bang and is pretty boring. I don't feel any sort of desperation from the Earth side and multitudes of CGI ships blowing up in CGI explosions leaves me with a strong feeling of meh.
On the writing side, a recurring issue is how much time is wasted on plot points that are reversed or inconsequential. A smaller example of that is Kodai visiting the Gamillan embassy on the moon and has to fight through a bunch of automated drones. That scene comes across as if the director was worried that the intro was too boring and so threw in an additional action sequence. It doesn't make sense in any context as Kodai was a guest and going to speak with an ambassador. Another case is Shima who looks like he's going to stay behind but
then randomly shows up and joins the crew. It makes zero sense in the context of the story as nothing is done to justify Shima coming along
. A larger example of this issue would be that the Yamato crew are treated as traitors for most of episode 2-5 and then
at the end of 5, that decision is reversed due to Gamillan pressure
. So looking back that arc feels unnecessary and used as a way of getting the Yamato flew quickly off Earth and getting those 'filthy' new 2199 characters off the ship. I have the feeling that Fukui, the writer, didn't like some of Izubuchi's changes/additions to the original Yamato.
Another aspect of the writing I'm not liking is the whole saving/helping Teresa bit as being the primary motivation for the Yamato crew leaving Earth. With 2199, the driving force of the story is very clear. There's an oppressive force that is threatening the life of everyone on the planet so they have to go on this mission or die. Here however, the reasoning feels more esoteric and thus I don't buy into the strong emotion displayed by Kodai. The Gatlantians so far haven't been depicted as a serious threat to Earth's survival and therefore that edge present in the preceding series is mostly gone. There's more of a political angle in replace of that but it's not fleshed out enough to compensate.
On the production side, this is a step down from 2199. Masanori Nishii and Takashi Hashimoto's absences are heavily felt in the space battles. The overall mechanical drawing quality is worse although later episodes are better in this regard. The character models have the same complexity from 2199 but there's less movement and animation. There'll be a dramatic moment and instead of animating that scene, it'll cut to the second after the action. One example that pops to mind was Kodai slamming his fist against the wall in frustration and instead of animating it, the show cut to his fist already on the wall. Xebec was having a lot of production issues when episodes 1 and 2 came out, earlier this year, so it makes sense that the character animation from that time frame took a hit. The later episodes have more animation, particularly 6, thus the production might be getting back on track. Xebec Zwei is starting to help out more now that they're done with Bang Dream so that might be the defining factor. I guess Fafner Beyond is on the backburner for a bit. It's worth noting though that a number of 2199's key animators are missing from 2202's production such as Shinichi Yamaoka.

Yamato 2202 | Yamato 2199 Monitor Design Difference
Takashi Aoki, director of photography and monitor design for 2199, is another major loss although he did do some minor monitor graphics work. The photography work is much more generic now and lacks Aoki's touch. The monitor designs are a huge step back and are pretty boring as a result, filled with flat boxes and ugly font. The background art is the star of the show from a visual standpoint. Yoshio Tanioka is a holdover from the 2199 movie and she along with Bihou continue to put in great work. I don't know if it's a Xebec or Bihou thing but someone there really loves clouds. Akira Miyagawa is also doing an amazing job with OST and carries a lot of the emotional burden.
Despite me dogging on it a bit, it's not bad. Some aspects are intriguing such as the
time dilation due to the Cosmo Reverse System
. I like the new Gamilian on the ship as he serves as a good foil to Kodai. Kodai struggling with the weight of command should be a decent character arc for him this season. Episode 6 seemed to put a little emphasis on battle tactics which was nice. The anime is good enough to scratch that interstellar scifi itch.

Restaurant Isekai 12: END

Ok. This show started promising when it didn't ruin its premise to do something else. But it went the complete opposite direction. It was beyond mundane. Everything episode followed the same basic structure. Returning characters didn't do much or grow, they were just there as regulars. The lead characters one of them didnt join the show until more than halfway in. The lead two's relationship stayed the same throughout the whole show.

It was a show that in its aim to not ruin its basic setting, it went nowhere. I can't recommend it unless you are SPECIFICALLY looking for a show to have in the background that is calm. I give it 4/10 Woofs.
This feels like you wanted this show to be something other than what it actually is.

I really really enjoyed Restaurant Isekai/Restaurant to Another World, because it's a show that knows exactly what it is — chill, relaxing, mostly upbeat, and full of food porn. It's not the kind of show that was ever supposed to have a real plot or robust character arcs: It's just a slice of life from a variety of perspectives. I personally enjoyed the new cast each week because it helped flesh out the world. I liked learning about stuff like the Western Continent, the different monster races, the fairies, etc. It focused on world building instead of an actual plot, and I get that sort of thing isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it really never pretended to do anything else. I found it to be the perfect show to relax to after a stressful day at work.

I will say I was hoping for a little more closure in the last episode, but I'm glad they finally gave detail on the Four Heroes.

Also the whole point of episode 11 is to show Kuro eventually warmed up to Aletta and the chef after centuries of isolation. I'm not sure how you can say she didn't change at all.

Love Live Sunshine is not even finished and Bandai already announced the cast for the next LL project. I think we all agree that Sunshine was a mistake - except Dia, she is a cute dork.

The finale was a mistake.

Nevermind all the WE LOVE MOOSE stuff that kept happening. And I guess the overall scenario makes it too difficult to make a good solution for.

A Dia is fine too.

This. I do not understand this need by people to take a simple slice of life show more than it's supposed to be. What the hell does abandoning its pretense even mean? It never shifted focus or tried to go in a different direction one bit.

Yet another case of dumping on something that really doesn't need a major plot. Probably wishes Bartender would be more than episodic too.

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"
10 seconds in and Tendou's already been hit with the "bullied" status debuff

Konoha worst girl confirmed. Also why the hell does she get introduced with a monologue about Tendou and not being able to match up to her but then she doesn't recognize Tendou at all in the actual show at any point.

And I don't get why they spent like the whole episode complaining about this double date like it was the worst thing ever. It's just friends hanging out and these people would need like a 53 episode anime before any of them would get to first base, so what's the big deal.

Yamato 2199 - END - I enjoyed this a lot, any complaints I have don't hurt it much...but still, no Daicon IV style revitalization laser at the end? Come on.

Or a heal the world sequence at least? How about an epilogue of everyone happy on earth? Still images over the credits? No? Okay.

Yeah, there's no explicit scene or comment made from her about Tendou, but I thought it was pretty clear she's trying to screw with her regardless, it just so happens that it would also help out her sister in the process:

Revolutionary Girl Utena - Ep. 11
This episode hits hard, even on rewatch:
Utena is now making the same mistake Saionji made by pressuring Anthy.
Since she is the rose bride, she of course tell Utena what she wants to hear.

Touga didn't an very good job at messing with Utena head, since he knew that this is his best chance of beating her.
His plan worked and now Anthy belongs to him. It seems he wants to save her in his own way.
At least he is fully aware that he can't trust her what she says.

Thank you very much for your recommendations! I'll look into those right away :D

@phaze: I actually watched Kubikiri because someone mentioned this anime in this thread and I gave it a go. It may have been you ^^

Congrats on effective bait though.

Always nice to see a good show becoming easier to gain access to. Hopefully a few new people will check it out.

She knew Amano was dating a girl named "Tendou," but she neither seemed to recognize Tendou's name nor acknowledge Tendou in person.

I don't recall her recognizing Amano from the game store either.

I don't really know (or suspect we'll ever find out) what Konoha is supposed to add to the dynamic other than "Amano is a Harem Lord."

You talking All Stars? That's not quite a new LL Project. It consists of mascots from three different sources, one of which is Famitsu. Three are from the smart device game, School Idol Festival - so not even new Love Lives.

If I'm honest with you (and when am I ever not honest?), the three Normals they picked aren't the best. No where close. They should have picked three that don't look like they just blend in with the rest from being so non-descript. For example Mutsuki Takamagahara:

l4lVwKU.png

You can tell she has more more spunk than them just from that image alone.

Phone game dictates the anime. The anime is to drive interest in the game where the real money is made. Chara changes in the phonegame indicate a hasty re-reboot.
School Idol Festival had no bearing on the original anime. The stories in the game go in a completely different direction from the show.

the 9 new ones look so similar sometimes I cant tell they aren't from u's and aquors. I mean aquors kinda has that problem too, it has sameface issues which is why we need more meme characters like that daft punk girl who doesn't show her face

Revolutionary Girl Utena - Ep. 12
The climax to the first arc is still awesome.
After the quite depressing first half, Wakaba managed to slap some sense into her.
Turns out, she is really awesome friend to have.

I think what makes this the best episode of this arc, is that Utena isn't fighting for anyone, but herself.
Losing this fight would mean losing herself. So the stake are very high, on a personal level anyway.
This is also the first time we hear Anthy thoughts and it seem that she like utena, too.

Next up is a Recap Episode... of awesomeness!
