Why are the GOP not pressuring some of the really poor polling candidates to drop out?

My guess is they prefer to stay in denial. That or they are holding out hope somebody will start better polling than Cruz or Trump, but again, denial.

I think a Trump/Sanders debate would be the most entertaining but Clinton will be a lot for Trump to handle so it there is the potential there for some great entertainment.

I don't know that a debate between the Republican and Democratic candidate is going to change almost anyone's mind in this election. Even if Clinton destroys Trump in a debate, Trump's supporters will still see it as a victory for him based on a few barbs hellhave inevitably thrown.

The chances of Sanders getting the nom are extraordinarily low. He'd have to been competitive in a lot of primary states he has a minimal chance in.

And people said he would not be competitive in general 9 months ago, hell, most people didn't even know he existed.

I don't leave things to that context of dismissal.

He has gone from 0% to neck and neck with Hillary in key areas being a virtual nobody nationally before this year, and that's a fact.

If Trump becomes the nominee, that fact alone will make voter turnout for the upcoming presedebtial election bananas. People will come out in droves to ensure that lunatic doesn't see the whitehouse.

Of course. That's all Trump is really doing, providing good soundbites. But hey, people are eating it up! Policies? Bah, I don't care about politics. USA USA!

Sad how someone can spit incoherent bullshit and be openly racist, yet be in the lead for one side of the political spectrum. Shows how far society really has come, in America at least to allow this to potentially happen.

This is getting scary. I really don't want to live in America with him as President. Specially as a guy that hates guns, is gay, and not religious at all. He is like the polar opposite of me.

It's not meant to be dismissive, just realistic. I'm a fan of his and I lived in Vermont for 4.5 years till this past year. I'd consider voting for him if I thought he had a shot. Two of his strongest states are the first two he's up for primary voting in.I'm not trying to burst your bubble. I just don't think he will have a chance in many of the primary states. Let me say I agree with you that he has come a long way in terms of being a relative semi-unknown to being more competitive. Which is terrific. I'd be elated to see him elected President. I just don't think he has become competitive enough to win enough primaries, or that even if he wins IA and NH there will be enough time to change voters' minds and enough voters willing to have their minds changed to make him win enough primaries in time to get the nom.

This is getting legit fucking scary. Please don't fuck this up guys.

Can someone for the love of God, tell me what people see in Cruz? I can understand why Trump is popular, but Cruz? Guy looks like a creepy scumbag.

And Trump doesn't? Even if you ignore the horrific shit he says, doesn't he just look like the least trustworthy, most scummy piece of shit on the planet?

I seriously doubt Trump is religious. I mean I know he says he is, but yeah...

I don't think Trump has a definite stance on gay marriage or is religious. He's pretty a-religious as far as political figures are concerned.

I'm not sure that even the Democrats can stump the Trump.

Wow, this is my exact feelings written in post format. Well done. I'll keep this phrase in mind.

Jeb, Christie, Rubio and Kasich all think they have a path to second in NH and third in Iowa.

What I'm struggling to understand is how they expect to ride a second/third place finisher into a nomination.

I'll take chances with her over Bernie. The billion dollar GOP campaign will devour him.

And the GOP has already devoured Hillary without even spending a single dime.

Her popularity was sky high in 2012. Then it took a huge hit after Benghazi, and another steep decline after the e-mail controversy, and her numbers only continue to deteriorate.

Regardless of whether or not you think there's any merit to those two 'scandals' (there isn't) you cannot deny that the Republican strategy has worked.

I'll take my chances with Bernie, socialism boogieman and all. The damage has already been done to Hillary. A majority of Americans don't like and don't trust her, and that's not going to change.

Yeah, Trump will chew up Bernie and spit him out during the debates. The republicans will label him as a commie socialist before the debates like the Obama campaign did with Romney. Poor guy had no chance by the time the debates started.

At least Hilary can play the woman card against him. He will look like a jackass shitting on a woman.

Except -- as pointed out to you in many threads now -- another dip in her popularity is from Democrats. If she is the nominee, her favorability would inch up, as what happens when you're the nominee.

They've thrown EVERYTHING at her and that's it. They haven't even started with Bernie.

Bernie vs Trump. That be crazy. The Communist vs Nazi election.

Nonsense. Hillary's favorability among Democrats is sky-high, and much higher than Bernie's is. The problem is that everyone else hates her.

Sanders doesn't hold a candle to Obama as a candidate. Besides, Obama was only a socialist to people who didn't vote for him and he smacked down those rumors by pledging to cut taxes and reduce the deficit.

What's up with these shitty comparisons? If every Dem could just do what Obama did they would never lose. Obama was a better candidate than Gore, Kerry, Dukkakis, McGovern, Mondale, and all those other losers. He's not just some guy you can decide to replicate.

They probably are, but no one wants to drop out when you can charge higher speaking engagements/book tours/FOX News guest commentator/etc. fees the longer you wait things out (i.e. the longer you remain in the public eye during this circus).

Exhibit A: Huckabee.

I kind of think Trump is the perfect candidate to surprise everyone in a general.

"Generic Republicans" lose elections to Clinton or Sanders, but Trump isn't a generic Republican.

Trump does way worse than the generic republican. The democrats are rooting for his nomination.

This is still just a national poll and means very little, however.

this so awesome!! Trump doesn't have one religious bone in him, he is forced to play to religious nutters
The gaffe comes after Trump declared the Bible to be his favorite book without sharing his favorite verse.

"I wouldn't want to get into it because to me, that's very personal," the real estate mogul told Bloomberg news last month. "The Bible means a lot to me, but I don't want to get into specifics."

Trump also compared the Bible to a "great movie" during his CBN interview with host David Brody before Wednesday night's GOP debate.

"I don't like to use this analogy, but like a great movie, a great, incredible movie," he said, wearing his infamous red “Make America Great Again” cap.

"You'll see it once, it will be good. You'll see it again. You can see it 20 times and every time you'll appreciate it more,” Trump added. “The Bible is the most special thing."

Tremendous.
