Quoting from the March thread:

Apparently, PixlCross only has touch screen controls, and no option for button controls, and they're janky, to boot. Big deal breaker for me, and I won't buy until a possible update.
OUCH, that's kind of a deal breaker for me as well since I use button control. Glad I waited for other people to try the game first before getting it.

Maybe have Star Fox 64 in the sales post?

Done.

Btw, NoA needs a better PR weekly. I don't have time to search which sales there are.
They don't write prices, publisher, etc. and publishes it 3 hours before the update.
I want that job.

via My Nintendo, you need to earn 1,000 Platinum/Miitomo points. You can mix the two points, so I had 700 Platinum points, then got 300 Miitomo points.

These are my favorite threads. I only knew one guy who had a 3DS like me, but he moved away and we never got to play Smash Bros together.

I don't think my mom even listens when I try to tell her about Nintendo. Heheh. So the internet is really my only place to go.

Should be mentioned that for each puzzle you complete in TPicross, it becomes a sticker you can use on Miiverse. Probably won't use it, but nice to see a 3DS game letting you get stickers, especially one that's a My Nintendo reward.

Now to earn another 1,000 points for WarioWare Twisted.

I own the WarioWare game so I don't feel that I really *need* it.

Also, Azure Striker Gunvolt is still on sale. It's pretty great. I mean, it's not perfect, but it isn't too bad for what it is.

And Legend of Dark Witch 2 is on sale in NA. It's really fun.

Are the Sega 4.99 special sale games giving points?

Really like these threads, so clean and organized. My sincere commendation to the creator and contributors.

Yup! Bought 3D Gunstar Heroes ($4) and got 10 Gold Points!

Agree wholeheartedly with the second part of your post.

Thanks for the information, im sure it will be useful also for everyone waiting for the service to go up to buy some of these classics.

Yeah, I might buy Gunstar Heroes even though I already have it on Wii. I guess I want to get Gold points and maybe get the NES Remix for 30% off.

I made a thread with my impressions about Mutant Mudds Super Challenge in case anyone is curious about that.

I posted that pretty early and it's gotten A LOT harder than I expected. It's super hard.

Also, does anyone know if you have to get all the Coins within the levels to unlock the Boss fight? I just beat all the levels including the secret ones in a world, but the boss door is still locked...

Found the answer in this review. I guess you have to collect all the coins to get to the bosses.

That basically means you have to play the game while having only one power up at a time too. I was hoping I could go through the levels with all 3 powers to make collecting the coins easier.

Also you apparently have to press Up at the right spot to find the hidden characters. That's kind of a secret I didn't know about (I haven't found any).

I played through the 4 main levels of world 3 when I first got it and I literally remember nothing about the world.

I wanted to like this game more...But it's kind of frustrating me.

Cross-posting from the MyN thread for those interested:

Man, DKCR is a pricy reward. As are all the Gold Point ones. The cheapest you can get GPs for is $5 (game) for $10, at a rate of 10 points for $5 spent, or 2 points/$1. Otherwise the most expensive way to get them is to spend increasingly more points. $9.99 games get you 10 points. That's 1 point/$1 essentially. If you spend $70 on a game you get 80 points, which is only $1.14 points/dollar; $79.99 also gets you about 1 point/1$.

That is to say, as soon as you're looking at a game more than $5, you're already losing out on the best possible value proposition for GPs. If you spend $12 on a game you get 20 points. That's 1.7 points/dollar.

The best bet is to find all the $5 games you want. But, are there *any* games that cost over $5 but less than, say, 7? Will games that cost $4.99 really net no points?

Even if you get a game for $6 and get 10 points, that's as good of a deal as $12 for 20 points. Everything after that is worse, unless you can find a game for $11.

If I'm messing up the math here, please do correct me.

The cheapest price for DKCR, at 230 points, is (at $5 for 10 points) $115. The most expensive price is $230.

Hmm.

--

FWIW, as pointed out elsewhere on here, people have reported sub-$5 games giving 10 coins also. So perhaps that's a glitch or will change.
I get that the point of this post is to show that gold points deprecate with increasing spending, but you're kind of missing the point of gold points. Just buy things you want to buy and when you have enough points to redeem for something you want, use them.

I did everything I could find to get some Platinum points. How can I get more? Can you convert gold coins to platinum? I really want Twilight Princess picross!

Well I got it pretty fast and it was a lot easier than I thought. Remember, Miitomo Points count as Platinum Points provided you have access to Miitomo:

Not sure what's caused it, but Chronicles of Teddy has dropped most audio on me twice - once by entering the options menu at the title screen, and the second by walking into the shop.

I have an external storage setup, so I have an inkling feeling it is related to that.

Anyone else play this / have this issue?

I understand how it would come off that way. I'm sorry I wasn't clearer in my post about my thinking on this, that's my fault for sure. I meant all of my post in the context of appreciating that we're getting anything for free, and wanting to explore the RNG-esque breakdown of the prizes in order to determine what the fastest and cheapest way to get Gold Points is (and I still want to investigate which redemptions are the best value). So I am thrilled this program exists at all. I just want to get the maximum possible value out of it. :)

Oh!! New thread. I didn't even realize. Happy April, everyone. The only month with a monkey in it. So perhaps we'll get an announcement of a new DK game!

In the meantime, I think I figured out why the game upgrade fees (apart from the games on sale that register for MyN points at their regular price, despite what Nintendo said about this, as Moon pointed out--so that could still end up being "corrected" by Nintendo) are giving points. That is because, as with the games on sale, the upgrade is "charging" through Nintendo as whatever the price of the full game is, and you are essentially being discounted to the upgrade fee. So if you get an SNES game (you may not want to upgrade an NES or N64 game for the trade-off of the darkened game some report vs. save states and Wii U VC functionality) upgraded, you should get 10 coins. This is the cheapest way to get 10 coins and apart from a game on sale that regularly costs $5 or more, this is the only way to get 10 (or any) coins for less than $5.

So, if you have SNES games you want to upgrade, go for it on Wii U.

(this goes for NOA region only but likely applies to other regions as well. I just bought Murasame for $4.99 and got no points so I can confirm you won't get points for a regularly priced sub-$5 game.)

None that fit your price range (= NES games).

My new price range, based on my above conclusions, is anything no lower than $5, and as close to $5 as possible. Alternately, games that are $10-12 (no lower than $10). So I'm looking for any VC in this category for 3DS or Wii U, and any eShop games. But stuff that doesn't normally go on sale.

How do you figure?

I wonder if my tone is coming across completely differently about this whole thing from what I'm intending. Tone can be hard to convey online at times.

There are a lot of quality VC and eShop games I haven't picked up yet. Some of them don't usually go on sale. There's a limited window to pick up some of the Gold rewards, so I want to jump on that while the jumping is good.

Is there any way of knowing if you've found all bonus rooms in a level in Donkey Kong Country? I know the GBA version has a menu screen with that information but it seems that the original doesn't.

I understand what you're trying to do. Get the most points for the least amount of money.

Some of the Gold rewards - especially the ones for WiiU - cost a ton. You have to buy a lot of eShop games to get enough coins.

Exactly. Yep.

Nah, that's not my plan at all. What I want to do is buy games that I would be buying anyway, and just haven't yet. I'd rather get these games now and play them later if I get free stuff out of it.

This is why in the previous thread I asked for the best games that fit this category, and why in this thread I said:

There are a lot of quality VC and eShop games I haven't picked up yet.

Quality meaning, I want to consider purchasing it and not miss out on it.

(Also, FWIW, I have $115 or so in my eShop wallet, so this is money long ago spent.)

(And come to think of it, money spent at a discount since I paid 80% or less for value of all eShop monies.)

Yep, tolkir (and Brazil before him) does a fantastic job in creating these threads. Never exalted enough.

About the coins: as said already, they're based on the official price, not the one after the discount. Also, just checked Sega's 3D Classics official price in US: it should be 5.99$, so those games should give you coins despite the discounted price.

Also, since this is a new thread, a reminder

Ladies and gentlemen from Europe...do you want the chance to get The Beggar's Ride for Wii U for free? Well, I've just set up the thread about it. Check it out if you desire.

PSA from the March thread:

Is there an OT for Twilight Princess Picross?

The controls have taken a turn for the worst. When you select X or block, it stays selected and you have to push the d-pad a second time to unselect. It makes doing a row or counting rough.
I can corroborate this. I'm not very happy with the stylus controls at all. Why the hell did they change it? It's completely mindless.

I can confirm that Fire Emblem Conquest, if bought from within Fire Emblem Birthright (or viceversa) doesn't net you Points, because it considers it Add-On Content (DLC). At 50% off though, null room to complain.

Might be worth mentioning here since Miitomo could technically be considered a Nintendo Download, & the fact there's games to earn on My Nintendo.

I did the math, and you can earn 35 Miitomo/Platinum points per day, & including the weekly eShop & Miiverse check-ins, you can earn a total of 305 points weekly to put towards My Nintendo. So in about a month, if you can have friends to help you keep up with the comments & hearts, you'll get over 1,000 points.

Aren't the bonuses for logging into the My Nintendo and Official Nintendo websites weekly too?

EDIT: Yeah they are!
So 365 in total or 1,460 per month.
