Are you guys complaining because you don't realize "sold-in" means shipped, or are you complaining because anyone reporting Xbox One shipments that doesn't start their headline with "PS4 is trouncing Xbox One ownt" is wrong?

Personally I laughed at the completely different interpretations of the same news posted almost at the same time by different people.

Edit: Not really different interpretation. More like different ways of expressing the same thing.

Yeah that's a fair point too.

If you drop $400-$500 on a console you're probably not buying as much software.

mmmm, yeah, but even with that I'd kind of hope that there's some growth with new consoles out and stuff, especially since the last few years have been a major decline over industry trends. Out of curiosity do we have numbers for March 2007.

Gies tell me if your okay :'(

I'm legit shook though, if they were able to beat them at hardware sales with MS' biggest game out then they could be pretty much be good sailing the rest of 2014.

Polygon is correct.

Sold-in means shipped to retailers (sold into the retail channel).

Sold-through means sold to consumers (sold through to consumers).
I thought it was funny that the verge tweet was almost like a reply
to polgyon's tweet, since I've read they're like sister sites

And how do you know that? Because they told you. Do they provide a verifiable source that says otherwise? No, they don't.
You have a very childish view of the world. Sony and Microsoft alike have investors and are that requires them to legally be honest and truthful about their financial situation. They can't just lie about what they are selling or there will be serious implications on share values

might I suggest stepping away from your keyboard for a small time?

Edit: I can't wait to find this post in a couple years when both the One and PS4 are in healthy competition.

lmao...I wanted to reply to that post, but could not come up with anything that would not get me banned.

Cerny is the bane of MS right now.
I think its game over guys, i could be wrong man, but i doubt it.
The PS4 is in another league.
Makes one wonder how did Sony mess up so bad last gen but turn around and do this with the PS4.

I am legitimately shocked that PS4 outsold the One. When I clicked on this thread that was the last thing I thought I would see.

The PS4 is just straight up beasting. It's hard to tell how good the One is really selling because of the "sold to retailers" number, but it doesn't seem to be doing badly, just compared to PS4 it seems to be struggling.

I just want to see what Microsoft do next. They really did seem to put all their eggs into the Titanfall basket, and it will be really interesting to see their next move. I can definitely now see them doing a Kinect less SKU, which could get them under the PS4 price.

HOLY SHIT

HOLY SHIT

I'M LEGIT IN SHOCK RIGHT NOW.

HOW DID MICROSOFT FUCK THIS UP!?

Id say they did not fuck up much this month, they secured what seemed like a big exclusive, they hyped the every living hell out of Titanfall. Say what you want, but that game was almost as hyped as GTA5 and that thing sold through the roof

..but the game did not seem to resonate with mainstream consumers, it barely caused a bump at all. It made existing XB1 users care, as evident by topping the chart, but as far as bringing new people, it has no pull.

I wont call the game a flop just yet, but how it was marketed and talked about and what the end result ended up being, there is a gigantic chasm between the two.

There's only so much money to spend. I think hardware being up 78% can forgive software sales from being down.

Also, it is 78% increase in dollars, not units. Because the average price of the new consoles is around double what they were a year ago, 78% increase in dollars still means fewer consoles sold YoY.

...but the fact that they couldn't even keep week over week sales higher than last month with a price-cut, a killer-app, and lord knows how much advertising; Mr. Spencer really has his work cut out for him.

That's more worrying to me than PS4 winning.

Part of the reason I expected MS to win is that I figured that the Titanfall bundles would help spur a big increase compared to February--a bigger increase than 60k, at least, especially when comparing a 5-week period to February's 4. The breathless media hype, the top billing at Gamestop and on Amazon, the bundles, the ads...none of it had much of an impact in the end.

April and May are going to be a bloodbath. MS has a lot to answer for at E3 this year--and unlike with the always-online BS, there's no switch they can hit this time.

Worldwide I don't think any US console will have a chance (Japan is too big) for a while, unless Korea & China become big console markets.

I'm somewhat surprised, but then again, everyone expected the Wii to forever and ever dominate the US market last generation. I think it ultimately outsold the X360, but X360 won a couple of years in a row over it. I would probably caution far more patience in the "who will sell the most in the USA" victory laps / defeat drinking for a while now.

Hell, if Sony or MS snapped up something like, NFL Sunday Ticket and put it as an exclusive on their console, that could swing the sales completely one way. I suspect it will come down to the next two years' worth of games.

Remember, Games > All when it comes to what wins a console generation. (I exempt the NFL from this, because the NFL currently crushes everything in existence in the USA).

My bet is still that PC ends up winning this generation and being the dominant gaming machine. The similarity of the console designs to PC architecture as well as PCs probably getting many of the "exclusives" (see: Titanfall) + having their own exclusives makes me believe that PCs will sneak ahead. Kinect being a killer app might have made sense once upon a time, but the explosion of development costs & expectations for gaming have put a severe crunch on making great Kinect required advances in gaming.

Also, had the rare opportunity to meet both Spencer and Satya in the last couple of months (personally, not professionally). Both seem to be fantastic choices for what they are doing - they both are passionate folks.
