Final Fantasy XV tech demo presentation by Tabata (Demo gameplay details added)

I don't know what you are trying to say here. Are you talking about magic spell, or magic feeling of Final Fantasy?

As for the tech demo it was a showcase of the visual improvement, not the game mechanics. I am sure they are hiding many things at this moment and will reveal them later.

Both. Like I said, it's been more than a year since that E3 trailer. The next footage we are being shown is the same Behemot in front of the same building. I would totaly give you the showcase point if it would be a new project. But it simply isn't. What year in development is this? The 8th?

I know how this is the same old song and I'm sorry for repeating it. But as a fan I really feel fooled at this point.

All the art and graphic discussion aside, I absolutly hate what I'm seeing gameplay wise. And it kinda makes me sad and mad at the same time.

Versus was supposed to be different. I totally get this. But when I'm looking at those trailers I'm looking at Final Fantasy XV. And the magic is gone. Actually, quite literally ... gone. Where's my Vita? Where are my Chocobos? I don't doubt that they will be in the game, but I certainly don't like what the devs seem to be focusing on right now. It's been one year since the wall hopping 2013 e3 trailer and while not being the biggest fan of it stuff I can live with that.

I'm sure someone will make a connection to the first XIII hallway trailer and sure, he'll have a point with that. But those trailers simply had that special "it" for me. With XV ... I don't know. It's all about hair and a teleport attack? That's what people are discussing? :/

Pretty much everything that we are seeing is pretty damn in-line with what I've understood the project to be. Especially what we knew it to be since 2009. We are talking about merely what we can take away at face value and speculating. If people can see the changes in hair and talk about it, it is by no means indicative that "hair" is part of the games central identity.

Not saying your wrong to be disinterested or guarded but the reasons seem ill fleshed. You even said it yourself, the XIII hallway trailer had something special that got you. XIII turned out to be something completely different. With XV it was never related to XIII, and it was always being tackled from the gameplay dna of KH. That integrity has not been lost, it's actually been preserved since the early reveals of the game.

Can't say I'm too saddened, its more that I like both. But the original Prompto had a feel that I really liked. But thse were so early, and it was nothing but concepts and ideals. Even for the developers themselves. It's not like it fortold some perfect game. What we are getting the actually implementation as best felt out through the developers creation of the game.

Please, remain guarded if that's how you feel. But every time I see expounded pessimism I feel it's misplaced.

The good news is every Final Fantasy is different. FFXIII had a very anime style to it. It could have been awesome, and there is a lot in it of value that simply gets overshadowed by its execution.

But you need to understand this is a tech demo thread. This isn't a trailer. It is a tech demo. When game dev's show tech to general consumers (and not just at GDC) it's because they want to show their game, but it isn't quite far along enough. This isn't a part of the game, this is just a test scenario to show off what they've been hard at work on. It's very unlikely you'll fight Goblins in a city.

The TGS trailer is more what you're looking for. It's much more story heavy. If it still doesn't grab you, then that's fine too, but don't get hung up on this tech demo.

In my opinion the magic is all there, and it's right up my alley.

anyone else think the main minigame in this one will be karaoke so Noct and the gang can finally fulfill their dreams of being a boy band?

So what do you guys think? In the Jump Festa 2015 news they will detail the battle system?

The thing is that the way Tabata talked about this, we will get more regular updates on info (I heard that one before...like last year before they went over 1 year of silence!)
They talked about how they want to show extended version of yesterday's demo in Square Enix Presents.

I think the next BIG coverage will be during Jump Festa 2015 but I think there is chance we might get some more info (not a trailer but just interviews and maybe screenshots if we are lucky) so we might hear more about battle system sooner than Jump Festa.

But than again this is Square Enix so nobody knows for sure.

I trust Tabata until he gives me a reason not to.

Probably. Maybe even a hands on. A demo for the demo.

Hopefully!

Sooner would of course be nice, but I feel like the battle system is something they want to cover at a relatively big convention so I could see them talking about it at length at Jump Festa, but not really any later either because if the demo really releases in March, they will definitely be detailing before then and there isn't many opportunities between now and then to do that at an event with lots of press coverage.

Maybe.

That or the game goes dark again until E3 2016.

I sure hope not. I really think they are going steady with the info spilling at this point.

They said it was. Tabata did spend 4+ years on the original Type-0 though so I wouldn't exactly say he's timely lol.

Why would we need to have the battle system explained at E3 when a demo is presumably coming before then. Unless you think the demo is coming after, god I hope not. I want to hope that SE has learned their lesson with staying dark, no info was probably because the game was changing so much, now they probably have a final vision and are working toward that.

I think they'll explain more details in interviews before jump festa, and hopefully have more footage as well at Jump Festa. All guesses and optimism.

I think if all goes as planned without any hitches, this will be how FFXV's news roll out:

TGS : re-introduction of FFXV with actual close-to-final combat system, etc.
Jump Festa : further expansion of the combat system details, showcase in more detail, teases about more story stuff, but still vague enough to be uncertain.
March/Demo : Talk about what isn't there in the combat system, how it will evolve, what to expect from the dungeons/overworld in the final release.
E3 : XV Storyline blowout. A proper introduction to the conflict/reason for roadtrip/the drama. If it actually hits Japan in 2015, it'll announce the JP release date and 'early 2016' for western markets.

Famitsu/Dengeki monthly coverage will occur slightly before or after that, to coincide with the first major story blowout, and they'll do their bite-sized reveals every month.

Then Gamescom, TGS, all the way till year end.

Hen, yeah. I'm not putting too much stock into him. He/SE could be on a roll though. Having Type-0 HD debut at PAX was incredibly refreshing coming from them.

Btw, why does everyone think we're looking at a four month gap in release between JP/the west? That hasn't been a thing with them since FFXIII.

XIII-2 was out for Christmas in Japan, end of January in the west. ARR was a global launch as well. LR was delayed very obviously to soften it's landing as an inevitable bomb. The localization was ready the November it was released in Japan. And they're already localizing FFXV.

So a March release in the US/EU would raise some questions.

I just can't be excited anymore, and I don't know how a lot other people are either. For over 8 years, probably NINE including release date it's been in development. Maybe it's younger people that recently in the last five years or so liked or got into FF/RPGs that don't mind.

I'm serious guys, if this doesn't redefine the genre, bring back the Japanese gaming power of the 90's/early 2k, and catapult SE to the top of the pile I'm going to consider it a colossal failure.

I assure many if not most of us here have been long fans, and have been waiting since 2006. It seems to me the lack of desire may not be stemming from the state of the game, but from a change in your interests and ideals about what brings you happiness in games.

For me what this promises is a game experience I've been long looking forward to, that nothing else in the gaming realm is attempting. That's enough to get me excited, even when I find myself jaded by even titles that I know I'd be ravenous for had I been 7 years younger.

If it doesn't keep the console rpg alive, the in many ways it is a failure. But that seems to be a seperate quantification than whether the game delivered intrinsically in the medium. But your false equivilence and shade of doom that you paint over this seem misplaced outside of your personal relationship in relating this to your consumer hobby.

If that is really your ridiculous, unmeetable expectation than your disappointment is your own fault and I would suggest skipping the the entry entirely. I've followed Final Fantasy since I was a kid (31 now) and all the game needs to be worth the wait is to be a great game. Trying to act like "only kidz don't share my point of view" is kind of lame too.

Well, at least you aren't putting unrealistic expectations onto the game.

It's hysterical to me how people have hyped this game to themselves and Square Enix has done practically nothing (aside from Nomura's occasional whispers of "soon"). It's not like they ever announced release dates and then delayed them. Frustration, sure, but it seems to be like we are far past the stage of not getting any info.

You might as well just ignore this game entirely. I tend to not get into things that I already know will disappoint.

Lol, I will just be happy if this is a SOLID FF game for a change. It doesn't need to move heaven and earth, it just needs to ...not be XIII

To be fair Type-0 is a HD remaster and they're receiving help from Hexadrive. If they didn't get it out after starting work on it since 2012 I would have been worried...

My guess for release timing is December in Japan then Feb/March for the west.

I guess that makes sense if they want to avoid holiday competition in the west. I wouldn't be surprised if they go in January though. It'd be like XIII-2 except that it'd be a good game that actually sells.

Feb/March are better months because people actually have spending money again.

The gameplay looks crazy good to me. I did like the Crisis Core-like battle system shown in Versus 13 videos. Seems like SE expanded on the battle system a lot since then.

Those are some stupid expectations right.

But FF Type-0 was also a troubled production AFAIK. Originally conceived as a mobile release, it was later revealed to be a full fledged FF coming to PSP.

He strikes me as a really generic VA. That was a huge issue with XIII, too. They opted to cast unknowns, but they were unknowns for a reason: they were mediocre actors and the script didn't help. Obviously Troy is more than capable and Ali Hillis is excellent in Mass Effect, but everyone else in that game was painfully C/D-tier.

Rachel Robinson the woman who voiced Fang sounds a lot like Claudia Black imo.
And the dude who voiced Hope voices Phineas in Phineas and Ferb.

The voice acting in XIII was fine it was the script that was the problem, like even Georgia the girl who voiced Vanille was specifically asked to act like that (because it was suppose to sound fake as Vanille purposefully acts like that, but because of how the directors wanted it, they ended up making it a bit annoying)

The videos I've seen the last few days haa convinced me that the series is over. It looks slow as hell and the graphics are nothing to write home about imo. This had utterly destroyed my interest in the game.

Final Fantasy is dead.

That hair is amusing. So fluffy and the only thing that stays pretty much exactly the same in the rain :D

I find it to be insufferable

No seriously, I REALLY don't care for the character designs in this. Like mentioned in other threads, they're straight up Japanese Gentleman Hosts. Just waiting for one of them to serve up some pleasant conversation and Suntory times :/

Final Fantasy is dead.

To you. As you can see with this thread and other threads there is still a tiny flame alive that can either burst or go out when FFXV comes out.

Just (re)watched the demo on youtube, I'd say I'm really impressed with what I'm seeing here, obviously it's still a tech demo and I'm not entirely sold on the combat (since I have no idea what it's going to be like), but even if it's something a bit like ff13 and a mix of command based/action I'd probably enjoy it, for the simple fact that you could move around in the battle field doing those cool things might just make it more enjoyable for me than ff13 which has a pretty decent combat system. (I haven't played 13-2 and 3 so I can't really comment on what direction they took).

I'm hoping the structure of the game and the world design to be better than 13 and maybe closer to ff12. I like the modern environments mixed with fantasy settings (similar to FF8) and I hope there are good variety of environments.
