Pachter Predicts: Xbox One outsold PS4 in September (dance, you puppets)

I was talking about exclusives in 2014. Do you want me to define the term 'context' for you?

I also added this in my next post, which you seem to have conveniently skimmed over.

So you are ignoring LBP and Singstar that are yet to release this year because you don't like them or what?

And no, competition isn't always good.

I'm sorry for going OT, but I'm so sick of hearing this "competition is a good thing" line.

Competition is a good thing when consumers have the willpower and know how to properly identify their needs. Competition can be an absolutely horrible thing when consumers are weak minded, often time biased and susceptible to price and message manipulation (see: US medical industry, credit card industry, etc.)

Good competition has to be proven and be performed.

In addition, competition does not guarantee creativity. If anything, in a saturated market, it can create an anchoring effect...("COD is selling like crazy, let's make our games more like COD.")

Is competition always good?

If this thread is anything to go by, NPD will be a bloodbath. I will bring a mop and bucket to help clean up the mess afterwards.

Yes "dude", if competition is so important then explain the PS1 and PS2 era where they trounced the competition by miles and is known as the golden years of console gaming.

You saw the results in the PS3 era. Limited competition from PS1 and PS2 resulted in a 600 dollar console and a feeling of "can do no wrong." If it weren't for the competition from Microsoft, who knows if we would have ever seen anything with the value of PSN+ or their complete change in direction towards gamers and developers.

If you're looking near-term, no competition may seem alright, but looking long-term, it can be detrimental to both a company and consumers.

I wasn't aware of Singstar. It's not on my radar at all.

Applying that to my original post, I personally don't think that Singstar / LBP is as appealing as Halo / Sunset / Forza Horizon 2, Titanfall though for console buyers, but I don't know the sales numbers so that's a totally uneducated guess. Feel free to correct me.

Competition =/= no dominance. MS is already competing, just not winning.

I didn't know PS2/PS1 era games were shit.

Shhh now - we don't want the truth spreading. The demise of Sega was hardly an issue for the industry. MS came in to fill Sega's shoes. If either Nintendo, MS, or Sony goes down, someone else will come in - whether that be Samsung, Amazon or Apple.

I think there's a lot more effort gone into MS and Nintendos lineup then Sonys. The likes of SO and Bayonetta are among the most intriguing games this year. The MCC has incredible value as well.

Sony have dropped the ball if LBP and Singstar is the best they can come up with.

Quoting because it´s perfectly put & exactly what I was going to say.

Did you even read my post? I was talking about exclusives available in 2014. Do you want me to define the term 'context' for you?

I think people will be looking at upcoming titles though. A white Destiny bundle is nice for PS4, but when they can get Destiny on XONE and they see MCC collection, Sunset Overdrive, Titanfall, Forza5, FH2 etc all in 2014 or available now, and the console is the same price... it would make sense that people could be swayed to MS console.

and yet you listed Titanfall and FH2 lol

I hope you bought a C64, SNES, N64, PS1, Original XBox and a 360 then.

I know you're being sarcastic or snide but that's exactly what most people did.

Most people bought a SNES, most people bought a PS1, a lot of people bought a Nintendo 64 and most people definitely bought a Xbox 360. People don't like getting something perceived as inferior and, with both current gen consoles releasing at literally the same time, neither console has a time advantage to make up for any deficiencies.

You're probably going to mention "but but why did the PS2 beat the Xbox". In Australia, I remember seeing department stores selling bundles for over $700. Think about that for a second.

Not really. LBP is a successful franchise that appeals to all age groups. The game is a critical success: LBP has 91 metacritic, and LBP 2 has a 95.

Sony could of held TLOU:R and released it in Nov/Dec to go head to head with MCC but they didn't - better to spread out games instead of having endless dry months. The "holiday lineup by the numbers" cliche is just fanboy drivel. I mean, it used to be that the holiday months were Nov/Dec. These days, depending on which fanboy you ask, it can stretch to as far as September. Thus Sunset Overdrive falling in that "category"....

When you really think about it - there is only one "big" game for the Xbox One for the holidays - Halo MCC.
For Sony: LBP 3.

Haha, I'll be your assistant janitor. When are the NOD results due? I'd like Pachter's prediction to be true just to see the meltdowns! Nothing beats a good GAF meltdown.

When you take out second party they are pretty much the same, sony dropped the ball in that i think they expected the order to hit this holiday, sony being in the situation they are just cant go out and buy like ms can.

Why on earth would you predict such a thing in the month where Destiny came out. Is he being the wildcard or is he just that out of touch with things right now?

As a gamer, would you rather play Singstar or SO, the MCC or Littlebigplanet? I mean, I know people love Sony but come on.

He was quoting you on

and proceeding with titanfall and fh2.

No, he is saying that they are on 360/PC as well.

Does he really think that people wanting a new console for the holidays are going to pick up a 360 instead for either of those games when faced with the bundles in stores?

I don't think they will. A few might, but last-gen is dying. Isn't it?

I'm not gonna argue that but lets not pretend like they have no exclusives left this year.

Also both franchises are not as small as people seem to believe. (Singstar Franchise has + 20 million sales and LBP franchise has +9 million sales)

Not everyone loves to play shooters. You dismiss LBP but it will probably sell more than SO maybe even MCC i don't know if its just bias or ignorance that you continue to dismiss games because you don't like them.

I'll take LBP 3 over both IF I only had $60 to spend this Christmas. A proven game that gives me endless hours of fun vs. an unproven title and a collection of games I played on my X360 with old-gen graphics - Halo 1-3. Never played 4. It's an easy choice.

No that's playing second base. Surrendering brand priority. The urgency is always there, the closer the competitors, the higher the effort. A marathon runner won't aim for first from the back of the pack, he'll build his own personal success. The top runners whom are close together will push harder the closer they are and near the finish line.

I disagree, E3 2012 was the epitomy of a shitshow in resting on laurels, Nintendo's output tanked, MS was chasing Kinect, and when the Gears, Forza, Halo trifecta of criticism started and Sony had Wonderbook and a Smash Brother's non-clone *shudders*.

Are you seriously making this sort of post? That's such a dumb comparison that I don't know where to start. If you want to play this stupid game, we can say that someone with family and kids would probably pick Singstar and Littlebigplanet hands down.

While Sony's exclusive line-up is looking fairly dry this year, does it really matter when the majority of people merely care about multi-platform games from the likes of EA, Ubisoft, and Activision?

This thread is about 2 consoles. XONE and PS4. Those games are exclusive to one of those consoles.

That doesnt matter pretty much everyone here is on a PC so the PC versions would matter and even still you cant just take it out because it doesnt fit your agenda.

True but I think for another market, not the 400$ console crowd. My Fiancee and their friends love singstar, but none of them would be a console for more than 150$, maybe 199. I think that's a huge chunk of those 20 million sales....

Btw. I'm not trying to imply ps4 doesn't have games, eventhough I think ms has the better holiday lineup, just commenting the Singstar bit...

What does his job have to do with predictions of how Xbox One sells in relation to PS4 in the US in September? Very little. Quite honestly, his clients don't care at all. He's doing this just for shits and giggles.

Surely it's a bit more than that, as he's giving these estimates to investors.

And LittleBigPlanet is critically pretty well received.

This isn't about GAF, it's about people / families / parents in stores buying consoles. I also disagree that pretty much everyone here is on PC. I don't have an agenda. I am a multi-console owner, I want great games on my PS4 to drop just as much as I am looking forward to the ones on my XONE.

Halo, Gears and Mario are all in the top 20 best selling franchises from last generation. What this proves is that People like video games, the more games the better. It's why exclusives are a great thing.

As a gamer I would choose little big planet 3 over all the others, I dont like halo at all and Sunset overdrive looks shit to me all the bouncing around like the whole world is one big trampoline( think about how old that kinda gameplay would get after an hour or so) Little big planet 3 on the other hand will have an infinite amount of content due to the very nature of the game being user created and shared content.........I rest my case.
