Well, that explains why the flow of the game seems weird. Seems like a cheap effort to quickly release a vita game : / .

Innocence R and Hearts R stories were outsourced to Gekkou Scenario Studio, which wrote Destiny 2's story as well. And Destiny 2's story sounds like fanfiction so it's not surprising.

The only Tales game I own, is Tales of Innocence R, and I did not like it at all and stopped playing part way through. How does this game compare to the others?

I'm playing Innocence R right now, it's better than the original one on DS but it's still one of the blandest game in the series.

Well, it's not in the original Hearts any more than the average Tales. Most of the skits in Hearts R are new, as far as I can recall. This was necessary of course, since it has new characters. Gall wasn't even in the original game.

Wait, do you mean the OG Hearts had little to no skits, or that most of the skits were redone (plus a few completely new ones) to account for the new characters in Hearts R?

It was probably the worst VA I heard in the last 3 years.

I don't think it's that bad. Most people seem to have had a a problem with the "lispness" of her voice which I think turned out to be a technical problem that was fixed by Xillia 2.

It had plenty of skits. I'm saying that I believe most of Hearts R's skits are different from the original's.

Kayos and I both voiced how ... lukewarm ... we were with Hearts R in the thread. But a lot of people seemed to enjoy the more standard nature of the game rather than more experimental attempts like the Xillia's.

That and the fact that she was monotone.

Seemed to be a voice-direction thing, but there also were a handful of English lines with improper word inflection (as in, the VA didn't know the surrounding context well).

I didn't really have a problem with Milla's voice. I couldn't even detect the purported lisp, although my sound system is probably the worst in the country.

Oh okay. I guess they have to since it is a remake but I can't vet it myself.

Were they newcomers to the Tales series or veterans? I feel like that's an important distinction to make.

I don't even remember this, but I haven't beat the game yet. Got kinda bored of the party and dropped it. Are you talking about Beryl?

There are also several skits about Kunzite's "relationship" with the daughter of the merchant couple that you meet in various towns. It's pretty gross.

When people say Alvin is annoying, I imagine a loud "wooshing" sound as the point of his character goes flying over some people's heads. I'm biased when it comes to Alvin, though.

I'm curious to see what Hearts R on Vita is like. Would love to play the DS version as well, but I can understand why the DS translation was stopped. I'm just glad to have an official version of the game to play.

>loli guy

Why even?

Alvin on his own isn't bad. The writing surrounding his repeated betrayals is colossally bad.

Hearts R is pretty bad on a lot of levels. Also, I think many people that liked it were people who have player other Tales games.

Heh, I remember this now. Totally forgot about it or my brain forced it out of my mind all together. Yeah it was tasteless, even moreso that the usual Tales dialog. There's been plenty of "loli" type characters in previous games but I think this is the first time the term has actually been used in dialogue.

As for the actual game, the combat is pretty by the books, but it's Tales on the go with decent framerate unlike Abyss, so that's why I think so many people like it. It's easier to just mash buttons and get cool combos (looking at you Kunzite) outside of a few boss fights.

Btw friends who played Vesperia ps3, how was the Patty stuff? Was it cringerino or ok?

It was pretty weird and iffy at the beginning. The conclusion was alright. It felt tacked on rather than actually cohesive.

Yeah I can't believe they actually typed "loli" ad verbatim into a variable field in the game files, and not once but multiple times. What were they thinking?

Was that, flynn and added bosses/voiced dialogue the only new thing or did it have new scenes

Cuz I have the Japanese copy unopened at home in Croatia and I'm still waiting for the trans stuff that apparently isn't dead yet.

They added numerous stuff but it didnt' seamlessly weave its stuff into the main plot. it just felt like a random side quest you suddenly HAD to do. The flynn stuff was weaved in nicely. The Patty stuff was just... wut?

I hated Innocence R, while I had no problems with the original. Conway and QQ are the worst Tales expansion characters ever conceived.

At least 8-4 gives a shit.

8-4 does good work and I appreciate their efforts.

8-4 worked on Hearts R.
And frankly, the translation is basically what I expect from them on Tales games. It just seems like the source material was crappier than usual this time. It really seems like all of the additional content in R really is that skeevy.

To be quite honest the localization felt like shit I would see in Compile Hearts games.

Eh... Their word choice and the overall flow of the dialogue for stuff just felt like crap. Granted I didn't play the JP Hearts R in its entirty so it can be the source but I don't think that's the whole story.

Watching people recant and get one of these at the last minute.

Ah, that Tales Magic. :lol

It has to be better than the last Tales game I played: Reve Unitia. Er... wait, completely different genre. Before that was Twin Brave, which was a different genre and I didn't like that either. I played the two R games and didn't think much of them. I think my feelings on the two Xillia games are very well-known here. RM3 was okay. I forgot what else came out between 2010 (Narikiri Dungeon X) and now.

Um. Well... Tatsuro Udo, it's up to you?

I'm waiting for Udo to work his sorcery and we have GRACES GOODNESS combat with some of that Judith/Milla Mahvel mid-air action from V & the Xs. His mind is strong, his talent endless; he can do it!

Fuck the haters. This fandom literally needs more haters. Like there's waaaaaay too much bias outside of the few of us.

Seriously speaking, I'd rather have hate on the shit that goes on Tales games because at least they'd point out mistakes, even if the reasons are wrong unlike those who praise games without even critiquing it properly. When I saw people praising Hearts R, a part of me died.

It feels like this forum has the only inciteful Tales criticism. Everywhere else I've seen it's "ZOMG, LIKE I LOVE THAT ONE SCENE, AND THAT INTRO LONG LIVE UFOTABLE SHIP SHIP SHIP" or "you spam attack for 40 hours. Also anime 7/10".

Ufotable has done me no wrong in terms of visuals. They are literally the few S-tier animation studios in Japan.

Well, I mean, it's all right there in voice form in the English version. I can confirm that the loli skit is just as stupid in Japanese as it is in English.

More like peer pressure.

But if this game isn't very good, I'm kinda done with the series.

I genuinely hope that's the case. The games from between Narikiri Dungeon X and now have been super-boring.

Really? The quality seems way lower than what they would normally deliver, even on a rushed deadline. I've looked around but I can't find the extent of what their work on the game is, I can scarcely believe it.

I have faith in Udo at least. But I'm really not sure if I'll touch this this week or not >_<

Their work on game stuff is great, their work on regular animu is great too but they hold too much stuff back so the BD's look amazing. Shaft are also guilty of this.

Yuri is objectively the best jrpg protag in the last million years, that alone elevates it above every other Tales game.

Nah.

Kevin Graham is my bro.

Then again, probably comparing Tales to Kiseki is kinda lopsided.

Like I said, I'm going for Legend of Legacy first because I haven't played a SaGa game in years and I'm wondering how that will turn out.

And heh, I feel the same way. Most people dislike the Tales games I like and like the Tales games that I'm not into; and it generally boils down to the narrative so whatevs. No fuss.

Yeah nothing against Alvin but come on I stopped counting how often they forgave him for betraying them and how obvious it was he was betraying them, even worse how obvious it should have been to them he was a rat...

Vesperia gets lots of points from me for having the only cast in the series that I don't hate.

Only watched the prequel movie, hated the characters

I want to force myself to finish the HD version. Is it worth it?

Force yourself? Lol don't force yourself if you're not enjoying it.

The thing about Symphonia today, it really hasn't aged very well, although it's the very first forray into a 3DLMBS if there's anything to give it credit for.

Final Arc kills most of the goodwill I have for the game, but definitely love Yuri and Judy.

I don't know, I like both the DS and R versions of Innocence better than DS Hearts. Considering Hearts R but I'm apprehensive at pulling the trigger.

I can deal with bland. It's not THAT bad. It's hard to get on the level of Tempest/Vs bad. At the very least it's not as bad as some of Shining Blade/Ark/Resonance's scenarios...

I'm pretty excited for Zestiria and I'm confident that I'll enjoy it. I'll probably ignore the main scenario and just focus on the skits. I usually enjoy them more than the plot anyway.

I mean I hate the char designs and it's the battle system is pretty stiff but those are my only complaints. I am past the part where I killed that kid/monster in the mayors? basement.

Not having free run is certainly its biggest problem going back. It's baffling how they didn't add that in the HD Collection.
