Tales of Symphonia Unisonant Pack announced for PS3 [Screens/Videos in OP]

My copy has been shipped! Can't wait to rediscover them in HD.
Did anyone find the trophy list anywhere, per chance?

edit almost a day later: trophy lists for both games up on PS3trophies.com

So let's see those trophies :
**Symphonia

-clear hard
-clear mania
-beat abyssion
-play 100 hours
-completed the item book
-completed the monster book
-100+hits combos
-10 titles by character ( 1 trophy for each)
-all titles by character ( 1 trophy for each)
-a million casino chips ( not hard to do )
-beat all the cameo battles ( coliseum )
-beat all 3 sword dancers.
the rest is story stuff

Seems easy my problem is that i know the game like the back of my hand and i don't think that i'll last 100 hours in this one.

*Symphonia 2
-10 titles pour marta pr emil
-all titles for marta or emil
-get all kind of monsters
-one trophy for each special arena battle
-one trophy by ending
-clear hard
-clear mania
-clear unknow
-clear the 2 special quests
-item book completed
-play 100 hours

Seems Way more hard than symphonia 1, unknow difficulty will force the player to do some serious monster fusion or face defeat..reaching 100 hours might be possible naturally

Trophies for all titles in Symphonia is seemingly a pain. Raine's 100% item title alone takes three playthroughs for the items you get from Colette, Kratos, and Zelos during their Flanoir events. Genis and Presea have titles you can get from Genis's Flanoir event, and Regal has a title he can get from his Flanoir event.

That's five playthroughs.

Symphonia 2 trophies I think would require two playthroughs because there are items in the post-game dungeon only available on a second playthrough if I'm remembering correctly.

You might be able to cheat it somewhat and limiting it to only (lol) three playthroughs by saving just before the event, getting Raine's 100% item title, Genis/Presea costume titles, and Regal costume title by separating your saves.

The 100% item title forces it to be at least three.

Whoops, never mind.

I forgot some of the costumes come in pairs.

Yeah, specifically:

Picking Genis gives you Genis/Presea costumes.
Zelos gives you Zelos/Sheena costumes and an item.
Regal gives you Regals costume only.
Kratos gives Lloyd/Kratos costumes and an item
Colette gives a Colette costume and an item.
Presea's gives you Presea's costume only (so might as well do Genis's)
Sheena gives you Sheena's costume only (so might as well do Zelos's)

Forgot I had it pre-ordered, so I got it by surprise today. Never played DotNW, so I guess I will give that a spin once I finish Sen no Kiseki.

So yeah, bit of a bump but I'll post some impressions on the collection.

I have platinum'd DotNW and it's clearly the better HDified game of the two, but that shouldn't come as a surprise. I'm only at ~35 hours on Symphonia 1.

I really hoped they wouldn't have left the weird hitches that occur while walking on the world map in Symphonia 1. It's really annoying to see the game stop, even for less than a second. It happens really often too. Dungeons are totally fine.
Been a while since I last played Symphonia 1 so I forgot if it was like that, but if it was they didn't fix it: your character keeps getting stuck on EVERYTHING if he goes too much close to it; a nightmare in close quarters. I prefer DotNW where that doesn't happen.

For those that haven't played either or all of them, Symphonia 1 is way more complex than DotNW to platinum in my opinion. A lot of thinking has to happen before you play otherwise you'll spend a lot of time getting everything.

So yeah I'm gonna continue my playthrough and just before the end, it's going to be grade farming time \o/ (+some other things because on a new game + I won't be able to carry over a lot, so better use them before carrying on)

Okay, this is COMPLETELY off topic, but there aren't any other PS3 threads up at the moment. Have any of you installed an SSD into the PS3? Worth it? I have a "spare" 120GB, and it'll help decide which model to buy come black friday.

EDIT: Or a 7200rpm drive, just for knowledge's sake.

I just listen to the two ToS1 OP arranges and I don't like them that much :(
GC is ok, but removing the guitar in the PS2 version's OP is fucking criminal. How could they think it was a good idea?

I might be getting this soon-ish, since it seems to be following the recent trend of Tales of games in Japan : the game is already half-price off new. Might wait for it to go under-3000 or even lower, shouldn't take too long.

OMG I just finished the Red Light/Green Light minigame, I cheated by using the pause glitch, I bet everything on it at the end because I'd lose anyway (they march way faster than you) and managed to get 4 steps, putting me behind the Katz.
And because I did it at the end of the game, I got BOTH the title AND the weapon...I'm so thrilled I don't have to do that one again :D

So yeah, the only "hard" things I still have to do in the game are the Gung-Ho title for Lloyd, but that's on my 5th playthrough (and I'm only just about done with my 2nd) and getting 1.000.000 chips at the casino (soooo time-consuming, this one)

Anything other than those two is easy, at least. 110 hours and counting.

From those that played it, in what ways are the visuals improved for Symphonia?

HD resolution, but that's about it to be honest. Textures can be not great at all, and the game would really have needed that "oomph".
Even the anime scenes are not crisp.

Symphonia 2 is better rendered than 1 but then again, that's to be expected. Still, even then the textures are not always that good.

How's the UI? Both in battle and out-of-battle menus.

It used the PS2 assets as the base, right? Shame because the GCN one looked better.

Well if you only mean visually, they are great because it's just text for the most part. Usability is the same as on GCN or PS2 so that doesn't change.

My post earlier sounded like it was not good looking but it is, it's just not stellar, is all. They didn't put much effort other than the resolution, and it already does a lot visually.

I only played the GCN version back in the day so I don't know how it was different on PS2. But yeah, the PS3 version is based on the PS2 version (for bug fixing, new artes, etc) so I guess it also uses the assets.

Yeah I just meant visually. Some of the UI in the screens looked slightly blurry so I was simply curious how it looked on an HDTV. Sounds good.

They haven't really upgraded anything. It's copy-pasta HD port with very little effort to truly present the game in a way that does it justice. They didn't even both to re-do many UI assets. They just reuse the old ultra low resolution ones

It even runs at an inferior framerate than the 10+ year old GCN version does from what i've seemed to heard(Since it for some reason is a port of the PS2 version which ran at half the framerate of the GCN version, rather than just taking the part of the codebase that had the extra content+Fixes and merging that with the gamecube code)

It could've used
~Anti Aliasing - It's meant to be presented in an anime like art style and it's kind of hard to sell that across when everything is hard, sharp and jagged.
~Better Textures- Even if only a little, the textures are pretty awful, even for a PS2 game.
~Better UI assets- ^Above
~Framerate at LEAST on par with the original version running on hardware that is 12+ Years old

I'm still buying and am going to enjoy the game regardless. It's just ultimately disappointing (That and the fact that it's not on the Wii U too since both originated on GCN/Wii) that it was given so little love other than some random stuff that just feels out of place and inconsistent with how little effort went into everything else.

It doesn`t run as well as the GCN version? Wat?
Overall this doesn`t sounds too good.

What a disappointment... It looks like I was right to wait for a price drop.

Ugh... Now I'm conflicted between my very strong desire to play Symphonia with voiced skits (even with Japanese voices) while supporting future Tales games coming to America... and my desire to not buy a subpar port.

I guess I'll just wait for a price drop...

The PS2 version is 30 FPS compared to the GC version's 60 FPS.

It'll probably be noticeable if you've played ToS GC already, but if you haven't then maybe not too much.

Still waiting for non-beta Vesperia on PS3, but I'll buy this to at least support them bringing these old tittles to Europe who were being left out on most of these games!

Is this confirmed? I know it's originally based off the PS2 port but it'd be maddening if it was still 30FPS.

EDIT: Apparently so. Fuck Namco. 720p and 30FPS? Ugh. Awful for a 9 year old game.

This can't be true. I'm not buying if it is :/
I played both the PS2 and GC versions of ToS, and I'll never, ever, go back to the PS2 after playing the original. 60fps or no sale.

Yeah from what people have said the JPN version is 30FPS.

But maybe it's not, maybe it's actually just hovering between 30-60 constantly. (Which would explain what some have said that it's better than the PS2 but not as good as the GCN. I don't know until I get the game in my hands or someone does a framerate analysis with the JPN version that is out already)

Again though, disappointing but it's the easiest way to play the game these days (And without getting extorted on the 2nd hand market) plus it supports them and shows that we want more Tales...even if the port is not great.

Is it always 30 fps or is it 60 in battles? That's what I'm more worried about, as nice as always 60 is battles need that FPS more.

So, if you had the choice between the GC version or the PS3 version, which would you go for? Which is superior overall? And in the context of a first play through?

(This is an actual choice I have).

Get the PS3 Version, more content (like Mystic Artes) ToS2 and it looks great. New Cut-ins and other things too (dual voice)

You know honestly, looking back and double checking it's difficult to tell if they changed the battle portraits or not.

The screenshots released are of such poor quality (Low quality JPGs, over compressed) that it's difficult to tell.

I think maybe they are just using the Skits portraits instead of the original ones

Here are a bunch of screens of the game running in dolphin for comparison

Honestly if HD is 30 FPS go with the GC version. Symphonia's speedy battles is one of its greatest strengths and having a framerate to match that feels great.

As someone who unlocked all the PS2 extras, the new content is worse than a better frame rate. The new Mystic Artes are neat but unnecessary.

Framerate doesn't bother me. Long as its not under 20 or something. I wasn't expecting a remaster like Kingdom Hearts. I watched some import videos on youtube on this and it looked great to me. Course it was just a video.

Also, lets not forget, its 720p people. Already makes it better than its 480p brethren. Not to mention widescreen too.

No, but it's disappointing when the GC version was already 60FPS. It's fine that you're not bothered by framerate, but it doesn't change that Namco was pretty damned lazy here.

Stuff like 720p and widescreen is minimal for an HD port.
