PEGI (&USK) rates Suikoden III for PS2 Classics for EU

Suikoden III will be released for PlayStation 3 as a PS2 Classic on the PlayStation Store, a rating from the Pan European Game Information board has revealed.

The game originally launched for PlayStation 2 in 2002. The story is told from the sides of three struggling factions, each with their own divisions and politics, and no unambiguous “right” side.

The first two entries, Suikoden and Suikoden II, are already available for PlayStation 3, PS Vita, and PSP as PSone Classics.

I wonder if S2 save data will carry over? I hope so

Here is the rating.

Edit: Screwed up the title, very sorry for it. I'd be very thankful if a mod could fix it.

Wow, great news! The original PS2 game was never released in Europe so this would be the first time for (non-importer) Europeans to enjoy this game!

If this hits in the US I'll only get it if they include a way to import saves from the previous games, which they likely won't.

I think you can move saves between memory cards. I remember doing that with Suikoden I+II and III on a BC PS3.

Not sure if it works like this with PS2 Classics, but there is hope.

Oh hell yeah, S3 was one of the best ever! I loved it.

You can't. I've tried over and over and over again. I've got a fully backwards compatible PS3 with the memory card reader accessory, and even if you have a Suikoden 2 save file on a PS2 memory card, it won't carry over.

I'd really rather have an HD Collection of the Suikoden games... I guess this is just simpler for a niche franchise though.

The only way to right now is to start a Suikoden 3 game on a PS2 then save the game and copy that over to the PS3. So it'd be nice.

we in the EU have it worse, there is no original EU version of S3, we got 1 2 4 and 5 but we never got 3, so i'm wondering if this is a straight US version or if the code in it has been altered to allow EU saves.

Interesting.
Original game was never released in Europe.

yeah I know, that pissed me well off back in the day, and I had it pre ordered at GAME back then too, still annoys me to this day

Konami is very busy deleting Kojima references on its games to caring about this.

i'll admit its a highly unlikely but this is one of the rare moments i'd say we EU gamers deserve something back, and just altering the code to allow that is satisfactory in my opinion, not that i expect it.
I'd even take a PS2 HD trilogy that is altered to allow S2 eu saves, but if a ps2 classic is the only option then so be it.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you need an actual PS2 to load S2 into S3 as the PS3 has logical separation between PS1 and PS2 saves. If you import a PS2 card into PS3's memory, it creates a bunch of PS1 cards to store the PS1 saves.

You'd have to start the game on an actual PS2, then load your save in. Save the game and load that PS2 game save onto your PS3...

Which is really lame. S3 is the only game I know of to really suffer from it.

On topic, this is really cool! I'll likely re-buy this if it comes to NA too.

You sure? I remember doing something like that, but it was long ago. I had to copy the save from the PS1 memory card to the PS2 memory card I created, but I remember it working.
Maybe I confused it with something else. Unfortunately my MGS4 PS3 died a few years ago, so no way to check that.

EDIT: Or maybe I transfered my saves from my PS2 Memory card to my PS3? Not sure now...

It's only a few minor level boosts and things as I recall, the benefits of a save transfer aren't as pronounced as with S2. Still interesting to see what happens with this, it's nice to see it finally come to europe in some form at the very least. S3 it's probably my favourite Suikoden game and one of the best examples of a multi-protagonist system in gaming, imo. Plus it has Chris.

I loaned my copy of Suikoden IV out and I don't know what happened to it (the person I loaned it to assures me they gave it back and they no longer have it and I have everything else I loaned them around that time), and despite it being terrible it looks like it's not going to be extremely cheap to replace... so I'm kind of hoping it lands as a PS2 classic so I can replay it with lowered expectations and a better tolerance for the sea BS and see if I can stomach it haha.

I still have my PS2 copy lying around my house, but my PS2 is boxed away somewhere. If the price was right, I'd buy this (and 5
and probably 4
) even though I've beaten all of them a few times already.

Now all they need to do is get PS2 classics on PS4.

Zero chance, I think. I'm not sure they even have the code for the game archived and even if they do, it'd take actual effort to go back, make those changes and then put the game through QA again. This is the same Konami that released the Silent Hill HD Collection, remember.

I can't really say I care that much though, I'm just happy we'll finally get to play legitimate versions of the game. It shouldn't be too hard to find a good US Suikoden 2 save online, if we feel the need to do the transfer.

Is Ps4 ever gonna get PS2 classics?

Also... I still have the original disc

I tried playing it on PCSX2 but it ran like crap.

Wondering if should upgrade my gfx card and overload on ps2 classics until my heart is content

i'm not expecting it, but hoping, hell i'd settle for an option at the start of the game to toggle perfect save S1+S2 data or not for that playthrough

Excellent news!

No RPG series has more heart than Suikoden.

I love Suikoden 2 and 5 (actually replaying now), but 3 is probably my favorite.

I like the core family dynamic in 5 (and, to a lesser extent in 2) better than the core character dynamics in 3. But I love 3's skill system, love the trinity sight system, love the sleepy pace of the Thomas chapters, and even love the paired battle system. I've played it through 4 or 5 times, and have recently been thinking about it a lot for some reason.

How I long for a console Suikoden VI in the spirit of 2, 3, and 5 (in Harmonia, obviously).

US may not be far behind but hopefully we won't need to wait 2 years like with Gradius 5 :p

EDIT: Wait Sui3 was never released in EU? So this IS gonna be the US ver.? Weird lol.

Suikoden V is the best in the series. Suikoden II comes next

Suikoden V definitely has the best writing and core characters.

But I think 3 has better atmosphere and pacing.

But really, I'm always happy to see suiko-love -- even for IV, tactics, and (god help me), Tierkreiss.

Great news! Suikoden III is a pretty great game. It isn't as good as II IMO, but it has quite a few really great scenes and the multiple MC/Choice thing was pretty novel at the time (at least to me, I'm not clear if this was the first time this was done).

It also has amazing music (like most of the Suikoden games do), and the combat system is bit different from 1-2 (due to the 3D nature and such), but I never found it terrible. Definitely worth a buy to save me from needing to get out my old PS2 to play it again.

God no. I liked V, especially after the huge disappointment that was IV, but it was still lacking compared to the first three. Suikoden's sans Murayama were pale imitations of their former glory.

I was gonna say before your edit, it's a bit hard to add a 60Hz mode to a version that was entirely in 60Hz.

Suikoden 3 apparently had some issues being run in 50Hz, so they abandoned any localisation attempts and we never got it.

Well one thing we can all agree on is that 3 had the best intro.

Yep, you know it... it's time for some EXCEEDING LOVE

Man I really would jump on an HD collection of Suikoden III-V

People asking for an HD remaster: this game looked rough at launch, can't imagine you'd want to see HD rough.

Loved this game back in the day, would totally pick up when it comes to the store.
