Here's what I don't get. Why does anyone think Ueda is still "directing" TLG? It sounds like, at best, he's in a contributor role who is overseeing the production from a supervisory role.

I'm pretty sure it's a joke. When Knack and 3D World came out, Sony fanboys obsessively pointed out that Knack outsold 3D World, usually neglecting to add "for one week in the UK" for some reason. Became a bit of a meme.
We already know what happened with FFXV. TLG is a huge mystery still.

Just from a personal standpoint. It was never something I was interested in since I wasn't the biggest ICO or SOTC fan.
That's exactly the same thing I asked myself when I read it. Its a statement made from a place of total ignorance when it comes to the operations of Studio Japan and it was clearly made with the intention of stirring u fans.
EDIT: Can a MOD please either change the title or add posts to the OP to reflect the realities of this "rumor." Otherwise we are going to continue to spread misinformation/false assumptions about what exactly this statement means.

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
I thought the final level was fucking brilliant.
It's an overall entertaining yet archaic action-adventure platformer.

Doesn't really make sense I thought SCEJ just operated as one massive team with people just moving between pods. There is no "team I Ico" or "team cerny"
If it isn't a case of Cerny and his team changing any of the core design of the game I'm OK with this.
Knack was badly designed but not a technical abomination. Team Ico games have top-tier game design but don't always perform well technically.
If that was a roadblock during development (things like AI and graphics not panning out) Cerny and his team could shape it up I reckon, sort of like Sony Santa Monica helping with Journey.

But it's interesting that it keeps coming up. Either someone is using Cerny & team's silence to spread rumors or there is actually some legitimacy to it, but they just weren't sure about the game being worked on. May be it was TLG all along *shrugs*

You're right it does. Which is why the guy clearly has 0 idea what he is actually talking about. If he does then he is purposefully misleading listeners to stir things up. Either way his statement is ridiculous.
And from a design standpoint what exactly is wrong with the Vita? Are you saying it failed to sell because of Cerny's design decisions and not because it's a casualty of a shifting portable market?
