OG Transformers plus Platinum Games....I want this to be great so so much. Please be two great things that work great together. Please be my Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.

I love love love Transformers. My shelf of Cybertronians stares at me as I type. But I don't like Platinum games. I'm torn. All spark help me.

I think people who thought Korra sucked must have had very different expectations. Korra stands very tall within the tier it belongs to. Either that or most people can only judge an experience superficially. Like, a Platinum game is not only as good as it's shine.

The game looks fine for a downloadable licensed game, but it does not play well. At all. The combat is poor compared to Platinum's other games and a big chunk of the game is a stupid temple run-style minigame.

And I'm not sure what tier of game you are talking about, but there are much better games in both the licensed game and the $15 downloadable category. Korra's only distinction is being Platinum's worst game.

Never really watched or had much interest with Transformers, but I'll keep an eye out since Platinum's developing this.

Damn, love that they are using the old school designs over the crappy Bayformers. I would love a modern game based on the old GI Joe cartoons! Fuck yeah!

Have you ever played Madworld? Korra isn't a top-class game for sure but it completely blows Madworld away. I'd say it's stronger than Anarchy Reigns' single-player mode, too.

the claims that this will have a Korra-level budget because "Activision is evil" or whatever are ridiculous to me

It might have a little more than a Korra budget since they're trying to charge 60$ for it. But it's still a licensed game by Activison and it's still one they're announced 4 months before release. And Activision is evil.

Legend of Korra came out in October. If this game is supposed to come out in Fall this year that means they gave Platinum a year to make full fledged console game. Yeah.... screw Activision if true. I'll start caring when they confirm the game has had at least 2 years of development time.

'screw activision if true'? Unless I'm mistaken, Platnium is still an indie studio and picks and chooses their projects.

Its messed up that one of my best developers are making a game of my best franchise but i'm highly sceptical. Please don't be a rushed shallow hot mess like Korra was, please....

Difference of opinions?

I was a big fan of Korra (well not after it ended lol), and I was so excited for Korra the game when this came out. That + Platinum, it seemed like a match made in heaven. But the game was a very frustrating experience. The combat itself was not bad (well sort of, read on). When you first do the intro stage and you have all the elements, the same smooth Platinum Gameplay we've come to expect, was there. It was a blast, and holy fuck it's finally a great Avatar game.

Then
they decide to strip your powers away. You spend half the game getting each element back. They do this to pad out the gameplay sections, by artificially making it harder. Even when you get all the elements back, they are severely gimped. So by the time you get to to the final boss, you won't even have all the powers you actually had in the beginning.

This becomes a big problem, because the enemies are ruthless. So it's like, they tied one hand behind your back, and threw you to the wolves. And while I like challenges, this was just frustrating because it made the fighting sections feel very stilted. It felt very stop and go, which is the opposite of what I expect from a smooth Platinum game. I wouldn't have been against them
making you level up your Element powers + unlocking your combos. But at least start us off with the elements and then let us build up by unlocking combos. Plus, this is a game about the fuckin Avatar. The Avatar bends all four elements damnit!
.

It also didn't help that, the level design was just very cheap. The Naga sections were not fun, and just felt tedious after a while. The whole thing just felt very rushed and underdeveloped.

Don't know what else to say. But I thought it was a massive let down. Both as a Korra fan, and as a Platinum fan.

I think it's fair for you to bring up the fact that it was a "low tier" game, and that expectations should have been met at that price range. Okay. But it doesn't change the fact that, it was still a mediocre game for a lot of us, because of it being that low tier. I don't even know if that's a good argument, because there are plenty of great games at that tier. But this game wasn't one of them. Maybe it's more along the lines of, the kind of actions games Platinum makes, don't really work at that tier. *shrugs* Either way, I just thought it was a let down. And don't even get me started on the plot, the game's plot was laughably bad. I would have been okay with a Korra with a low budge, if the gameplay sections felt smooth and fun. If they hadn't made certain design choices (which I think was a big misstep). It wasn't even that I didn't have proper expectations, I just legit thought it was a bad game.

Even if I was to like the game, and could concede to you that it was a good game at that price range, I would still be let down if the next Platinum game was another digital/low tier title. Because I want a bigger/more polished experience from them.

The pacing of Korra and unlocking the bending again wasn't great. Its still one the better action games I've played and the last word I would use to describe it is "sucks" or "awful." Platinum themselves has made worse games.

A punchy Transformers game? :O

Oh well, if they just apply Platinum to stuff willy nilly, they're bound to be paired with things that make sense eventually.

The other obvious aspect that does jump out is how nicely the cel-shading has been handled. This is notoriously difficult to pull off well in games and while these static screenshots look impressive, I am definitely curious to see how it all holds together in motion.

As an aside it’s always sad how most publishers try to make animated properties look “real”, so its nice to see Platinum Games being allowed to go back to the host material and make it look like the original animation.

I hope it has an interesting combat system and you don't fight like the same 3 enemies

no annoying mini games pls

also I liked korra, but it was more fun on a second playthrough because all the stupid skills were locked on the first playthrough but by then you've already went through most of what the game has to offer

Keep in mind Forbes are not journalists, so they did not cite a source for that statement. They are just commenting off of the unofficial information that has been leaked.

EDIT:

Nvm, this is a Transformers thread, not a Korra thread. I still think even though I'm not a big fan, it's essentially big fighting Robots + Platinum. What is there not to like? If the game has a decent enough budget and time, I don't see why even non-fans, can't end up liking this game. I know I'm still interested in it.

For you.

Well then you clearly have no clue about the shit theypull on their licensed titles. Why would anyone trust Activision in anything licensed after the whole Deadpool debacle boggles my mind.

I know, wasn't posting it as news, just their opinion on the game's look.

Didn't platinum only have a year to make revengeance?

The game had years of development under Kojima Pro. And then everything, the assets, story, characters, and concept was handed to Platinum at the end of 2011. The game came out Q2 2013. That's more than a year plus all the pre-production taken care of.

The story, characters, and concepts were mostly thrown out when Platinum took over though. It's not like they handled over a perfect package of pre-production stuff and Platinum just made the game. They had a bunch of assets to help, that was true, but most of the important bits were redone from scratch.
