Most "epic" final boss in Final Fantasy?

God, I hate the word epic...regardless, that's what I'm looking for. Which of the final bosses from the Final Fantasy series had the greatest battle?

Things to consider:
Your adrenaline during the fight
Cinematography
Soundtrack
Difficulty
Length

As a refresher:
Final Fantasy - Four Fiends, Chaos
Final Fantasy II - The Emperor
Final Fantasy III - Cloud of Darkness

Final Fantasy IV - Zeromus
Final Fantasy IV: The After Years - The Creator

Final Fantasy V - Exdeath, Neo Exdeath
Final Fantasy VI - Statue of the Gods, Kefka

Final Fantasy VII - Jenova∙SYNTHESIS, Bizarro Sephiroth, Safer Sephiroth, Sephiroth
Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- - Genesis, Genesis Avatar

Final Fantasy VIII - Ultimecia, Griever, Ultimecia Junctioned with Griever
Final Fantasy IX - Trance Kuja, Necron

Final Fantasy X - Braska's Final Aeon, Yu Yevon
Final Fantasy X-2 - Vegnagun, Shuyin

Final Fantasy XII - Vayne, Vayne Novus, The Undying
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings - Feolthanos Exultant

Final Fantasy XIII - Barthandelus, Orphan
Final Fantasy XIII-2 - Chaos Bahamut, Caius, Jet Bahamut, Garnet and Amber Bahamut.
Lightning Returns - Bhunivelze

Final Fantasy Tactics - Ultima
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance - Li-Grim
Final Fantasy Tactics A2 - Illua, Neukhia

Final Fantasy Type-0 - Rursan Arbiter

Part of me wants to reserve my vote until XV, they could get very nuts with the real-time action gameplay if the KH series is any indication.

The new Heavensward final boss is pretty epic, mainly becuause of the crazy shit that happens mid fight. Shame it's friggin easy though.

That being said, I would still vote Kefka. Not that hard too but also really impressive design overall.

I love XII's final boss so much, but I'd have to give it to Safer Sephiroth personally. The musical build-up, the choir, the way he looks and moves, the Super Nova, the sheer iconic-ness, even how he dies. Gaming nirvana in a can.

Sephiroth has a special place in my heart for getting my 12 year old self hype as shit when One-Winged Angel started playing, and then the game segued into the pink clouds after beating Bizzaro Sephiroth.

However, one of the only good things I can say about FF13 is the final boss, the theme playing, and how hype it was because of it.

Final Fantasy VI. The whole Dancing Mad sequence, starting with having to order your team is great.

Piss easy fight, but epic.

My vote will go to XIV's current last boss as well. One of the best last bosses i've played in years.

For me its this guy, Promathia from FFXI's 2nd expansion.

The end of a really well written and challenging story, the arena you fight in is absolutely breathtaking, the music is on point, and you get one of the best NPCs in the game fighting on your side.

Easily one of the highlights of my ~10 year history of the game and my favorite boss fight in the series. It is truly epic.

Kefka is up there too.

Epic? Probably VI and VII.

However, the new end-boss (you know which one if you play) from the Heavensward expansion in XIV is absolutely amazing. Especially the soundtrack. Good God.

I wonder if there are any literally epic boss fights in gaming. Like, a boss fight that sends you through a long journey and only after arduous trials, puzzles, and tests of character (all against the boss) is this fight completed and the boss conquered. I don't think one exists.

Using 12 characters to climb from the summit of Kefka's Dark Tower in the sky to the heavens against the dark angel himself. Great soundtrack, maybe slightly easy but overall really memorable and my favourite.

Shout out to this nonsense too, i love it:

For the folks mentioning FF14, how is the raid content of that game?

I can't decide if I want to jump into a MMO after SWTOR, which I loved but got tired of when I became a raid leader for my guild.

XII for me. Battle for Freedom is a fucking awesome track, and I just love the aesthetics of everything in that final area and the boss design at different stages.

I liked the implications too, that this wasn't really about saving the world, but stopping one man and reclaiming the nation.

I mean, when will your fave Final Fantasy boss will be as epic when you have a boss that during the first stages is an allegory of the Divine Comedy and to top that tower of horror you are confronted by a psycho who attained godhood and tells you that everything is meaningless?

Also Dancing Mad >>>>>>>>>> One Winged Angel (Unless it's the Advent Children version.)

While i think Dancing Mad will always be tops, the LR final battles are right up there as truly epic. It's three games worth of buildup in a desperate battle for the literal fate of the universe.

That was actually my biggest issue with FF12 at the end, that all this stuff boiled down to one dude.

Then again, I know the changes the game went through in its development stages.

Yeah, that final boss track in LR is pretty fucking badass.

Final Fantasy XIII-2. Dat final boss. So epic. The soundtrack is awesome and if you aren't overpowered, it's very intense. Those Bahamuts look cool.

Nothing tops Ultimecia for me. Especially factoring in the "Ultimecia is Rinoa" theory, when she summons Griever. And then in the end when "The Extreme" starts to play and Ultimecia reappears as that crazy upside-down sorceress thing and knocks your party down to 1HP instantly, my heart was racing!

Kefka by far

The tower, Dancing Mad, the whole build up to the fight throughout the ruined world act, having your entire party fighting alongside you, I don't think it will ever be topped

FFVI easily. The music pumping up along with Kefka's laugh. Arguably the best villain in FF history and it was finally time to take it to him.

Not the final boss but the very final battle (you know which one) from FFVII: Crisis Core is probably my fave.

The feels.

Kefka.

And maybe Braska's Final Aeon, just for the novelty of seeing a giant ass summon monster perform all of Jecht's blitzball moves.

It's Final Fantasy VI.

FF7 gets an honorable mention for having amazing music for the Bizarro Sephiroth and Safer Sephiroth fights though.

Exactly.

This was insane back in the day, played it again a few years ago, and it was still insane.

FFVI and it's not even close. Divine Comedy reference is really neat and Dancing Mad in all its 12ish minute glory is GOAT tier final battle music.

Honestly, I'm really a fan of The Dark Cloud in 3 (remakes). The fact you have to kill 4 other relatively tough bosses to have a chance against her with no save point is pretty nerve racking. Then when you actually do face her, it eschews the normal convention of the final boss being a single enemy. It's certainly an improvement over the famicom version where the only move she uses is the Wave attack.

I also have to give Chaos in the NES version a commendation for having a really difficult dungeon and fight.

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.

!!!

Let 'em know. Ultimecia is my favorite villain of the series (Edea too, while possessed). SO underrated and badass, and I love her look. The Extreme is the best final boss track too, yes better than One Winged Angel. I do love the Rinoa = Ultimecia theory, but I don't want it to be true, it's just too heartbreaking :(

Plus what other villain comes even CLOSE to accomplishing their goal like Ulty did with Time Compression? Ultimecia gets it done.

Even though the game itself is not that good I really liked the final boss of Lightning Returns. All these games, all this despair and then this motherfucker comes in and you kill him. He isn't even that easy (I did many sidequests and was quiet buffed). Music is also epic as shit.

After that I would say Final Fantasy Xs final boss(es) and Final Fantasy 9 :)

Final Fantasy 8 has my vote. Yeah yeah, junction system abuse blah blah, don't care.

FF8 has the best final dungeon in the series with the best music. You can say what you want about Disc 4 but Ultimecia Castle more than makes up for it. Great design, some neat puzzles (admittedly a little basic), but the sealed powers mechanic with Ultimecia's servants is great. It's literally a you choose boss rush. You can even skip straight on through to Ultimecia with only attack available.

And the final boss rush is the best in the series. I really don't think Kefka compares. Ultimecia, Greiver, Ultimecia/Greiver, and then fucked up Ultimecia are great sequential bosses. The absorbed into time mechanic is neat because you immediately panic trying to prevent one of your mains from disappearing if they end up getting KO'd.

And the music!!!

Premonition, Legendary Beast, Maybe I'm A Lion, and The Extreme is just punch after punch of awesome music and was undoubtedly one of Uematsu's best moments during his career at Square.

What-what Ultimecia.

Final Fantasy VII by far, why?

One Winged Angle is why.

Weird. I was always more fond of One Winged Angel.

My answer is and always will be FFVI's Kefka battle. Dancing Mad is as good as a boss finale theme can get, and the scope and scale of the fight was truly epic and still holds up today.

Can't wait to see what they're cooking up for XV.
If past trailers are any indication, Eidolons boss battles will make everybody's jaws fall to the ground.
