He got 96 million followers on FB alone. Writing a post about his upcoming movie will be seen by millions. That is great advertising tool, and it´s free.

I don't think he's getting money because he has 96 million facebook followers, though. He's just leveraging huge success, is all. Studios will gamble on a guy at the center of a giant earning film series.

Horseshit. It was a failure of marketing. Universal screwed the pooch.

Not entirely true. If the movie was appealing the internet would be very buzzing for it. The movie is not appealing to most people apparently.

I should have elaborated. I did not mean that his followers are the only reason he is still making movies besides F&F. Also Riddick did not make much money. So he is not that bankable outside F&F and GOTG.

People just need to accept that folks don't want to see a movie about steve jobs. Might have done better if it were called Iphone Man or Macbook Dude tho.

I think if they would have called it "Iphone Man or also known as that Macbook Dude", it probably would have been leading box office.

But hey Im not the stuido head

AntMan 2 is going to make bank after people fall in love with him after Civil War. He's gonna steal the show. Book it.

They could just put Iron Man in every movie. He's about to carry Captain America to over a billion, he could do the same for Ant-Man. Those tough jobs for a man who's not afraid of wearing high heels. The kind of man who can take on any and all challenges. That's Iron Man.

I read this in your avatars character voice. Made it even funnier.

$290k. Per theatre average was $120 over 3 days. That means, once you remove the distributor cut, the average theatre owner pocketed a cool $20 per day of showing Jem. If the film showed more than once, that's not even enough to pay the attendant.

Funny enough, 4 venues added the film this weekend.

Holy shit, wow.

What is up with the rash of terrible movies this month? It is like Fuck You It's January in November.

Glad Scouts bombed. That movie and it's commercials can go to hell.

It's a lack of interest in Jobs.

Exactly. There were tons of ads and people aren't stupid. They know its in the theater. They know its reviewed well. They don't care.

They are interested, or better, they were. The biography the movie is based on, was crazy successful. But thats probably the thing, people who wanted to know more about him already purchased the book.

January isn't even that bad anymore. I don't live in New York or LA, so I get to see all of those films gunning for late awards qualification when they go wide in January. October decided that it wanted to be more like September this year.

is BOS doing okay?

Seems like it's doing just OK. It wasn't super spendy at all (Crimson Peak cost more, despite the lack of a big star like Hanks), so while it's not going to be a smash hit anytime soon, it'll be fine overall. Spielberg has The BFG next year, which should have higher expectations given its broader appeal, prime release slot, and what I can only imagine as a bigger budget overall.

Bridge of Spies has a lot of its international run ahead of it. I'm expecting $60-70M domestic, and at least that overseas. More than enough for a $40M film.

love on your sleeve
Steve Jobs bombing just means I can get it on Blu-Ray sooner rather than later. Gotta look at the positives.

Dan

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
Michael Caine is in TLWH? Rofl
I assume studios are legally obligated to offer Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman every elder wise man role, and then they simply flip a coin for it.

I seriously have never heard of either Our Brand in Crisis or Burnt. Nothing at all. I don't think it's fair to blame the stars when the movies received no marketing and also seem to be bad movies. Just goes to show big stars aren't exempt from making trash films that aren't seen.

Steve Jobs drop is so bad, holy shit. I mean that's supposed to be an adult drama with legs(see: Bridge of Spies consistent -25-30% drops). -65% is fuckin' Fantastic Four tier.

Why was Steve Jobs rated R? Is it because Fassbender said "fuck" like 5 times throughout the movie?

Are people born in the year 2000 really the demographic for a movie that covers the launch of the iMac?

Had the movie been specifically been about ITunes/iPod, or the creation of the IPhone, or the creation of Pixar/Toy Story, it might have had some traction. Hardcore Apple fans who actually know about Jobs' life do not makeup the majority of Apple customers. The strength of the brand is based on the products, not on the man himself.

Looking at this whole list....kswiston can back me up if I'm wrong, but this legit gotta be one of the worst box office weekends in years.

This seems like a fair assessment. If you asked 100 iPhone owners if they know what NeXT is, I would be amazed if more than five of them could even tell you how it's spelled, let alone what it actually was.

That is an interesting reason I haven't thought about. I'm not a hardcore Steve Jobs fan and the iPod was my first exposure to an Apple product. I guess I'm in the minority that came in late during the Apple craze and wanted to know more about Jobs. Also I like Fassbender and any good movie he's in.

Or American Sniper, which had one of the most impressive runs of 2015.

Didn't stop people from going to see The Wolf of Wall Street or Black Mass.

Sniper was an action film, most action heroes are sociopathic if you stop and think about it (see any Schwarzenegger film). And in Wolf of Wall Street's Case, much like Scarface and other gangster films it glamorizes the protagonist's hedonistic lifestyle thus make him appealing to the audience even if he is a horrible person.

Didn't Black Mass flop?

So does this mean we as a culture are finally done with zombies? Or do we have to wait for both Walking Dead shows to be cancelled first?

Not really? Didn't set the world on fire, but it seemed to do OK for itself. It's not like The Wolf of Wall Street was a runaway success, either.

I think Sho_Nuff82 has the right idea that the topics covered in this film aren't really appealing to those that got into Apple with their mobile devices that would date back to the iPod. I don't even think Jobs touched on them much, either, which was surprising given that it was definitely a more traditional biopic than Steve Jobs.

It's the third lowest in the past 5 years. The two that were lower were both the week after labor day weekend, which is typically the slowest week of the year.

The Wolf of Wall Street made just under $400M on a $100M budget. Given the fact that it was three hours long and received R-equivalents pretty much worldwide (except for France which decided the film was fine for 12 year olds), I don't think you could ask for much better.

I for one would like Werewolves to be the next supernatural monster pop culture latches on to. It feels like between vampires, zombies, and witches werewolves are always the odd ones out.
