As excited as I am about AoE and AoM getting expansions, I still regularly play Rise of Nations... Which, imo is a far, far superior game. So yeah, I echo this.

Same here I still play Rise of Nations at least once or twice a week, it's easily my favorite RTS of all time and much better then the Age of Empires games IMO.

Just found out about AoM's new civs...I am sooooooooo fucking hyped.

I probably have over 1k hours in AoM (since its release 10 years ago. I've only clocked 100 hours on Steam, lol). And I've played RoN for quite a while too and I'll echo this statement. RoN is probably the best RTS I've played yet. I already bought it when it launched on Steam but haven't got the chance to really dig in and play again.

And one of the best RTS music you'll ever find too.

For those of you saying it is just one Chinese CIV, I've added the theory to the OP. There is some credence to the theory.

1. God on the left could be Shennong, god of herbal drugs. He was one of the Five Emperors counted amongst the Three Sovereigns. He is portrayed with horns, but always short white horns, except for this one statue where he does have bull horns. I'm not sure what the large club in the image could be, but maybe its an agricultural tool. His attire and that leaf he is holding in the image does seem to fit with his description, though.

2. Goddess on the right would still be Nüwa (aka Nugua), creator goddess who created humans from yellow mud. She is also counted among the Three Sovereigns.

3. God in the center would then be the Yellow Emperor (aka Huang-Ti), a cosmic ruler god. He is also sometimes counted among the Three Sovereigns. In the image, his attire is not particularly yellow enough. Maybe he's the Jade Emperor? He still looks middle-eastern to me, but the image is very blurry.

Also, of note, is that some people did work on a Chinese mod for AoM, but it was never finished. Maybe a deal was worked out with the people involved, sort of like how the Forgotten Empires team had their work made into an official expansion. He are some images of the mod below:

What African Kingdoms do you think may be getting in? I imagine the Ethiopian (Maybe Aksum?) and the mamluks have a shot but who else?

If the AoM civs are Celtic, Chinese, and Pre-Islamic (I still don't think they are Zoroastrian) what heros and myth units do you expect them to use?

If we see those buildings once the mod comes out I'll have a chuckle. Would be great for the modders!

New CIVs: Berbers, Malians, Ethiopians, and also Portuguese (European king guy on the right) are the CIVs I've heard speculated.

Chinese Myth units: Terracotta Warriors, Feilong/Yinglong (winged dragon), Huanglong (Yellow Dragon), Panlong/Jianglong (aquatic dragons), Chilong (demon dragon), Zhulong (torch dragon), Foo Dogs/Lions, Nian Lions, White Tiger, Fenghuang/Vermilion Bird (mythical bird, like a phoenix), Longma/Qilin (dragon-horse), Peng (large bird), Pixiu (winged lion), Wangliang (demon creature), Yeren (ape-man), Ao Turtle?, Water Monkeys?, Jiangshi (zombies)?, Mogwai (like the movie Gremlins)?

(I'll maybe add to this later for other CIVs)

Great news they are taking care of these old outstanding games, hoping for an age of empires ROR HD release

Let's hope this will have narration, was really disappointing that The Forgotten lacked narration.
maybe they have forgotten to add narration.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Honestly, I love this idea. Classic games getting more added to them rather than remade.

It's a sequel to the Age of Empires 2 HD remaster, not the original version of Age of Empires 2.

I think the fact that AoM HD followed AoE2 HD more or less confirms that too much of AoE and RoR has been lost to time for a similar treatment to be viable.

I 100% agree. More companies *cough*Capcom/SNK*cough* should do this with more of their older games *cough*Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike/Mark of the Wolves*cough*.

Very cool these games are being expanded upon! I'm quite nostalgic for both of them, and especially Mythologies.

Did the new expansion before this come with a campaign?
I really liked those history tale style missions.

The Forgotten expansion for AoE2 hd did have more campaigns. It adds 7 more campaigns, though they lack an opening verbal narration before missions.
